Exactly, normally a device like that should easily work for 10 or 15 years.

I don’t' see why the Bluetooth model shouldn't give us years of reliable
service like any well made appliance. If anything, it's the iOS app that'll
likely give us trouble long before we have to deal with any issues with the
actual device. Looks like the smart cooker app hasn't been updated in forever,
but as long as it continues to work and do what it's supposed to do, then
that's perfectly fine with me.
Funny, a few days ago during a spurt of holiday cooking, my wife was using both
our instant pots. The 6 quart Bluetooth one that I use as well as an 8 quart
model she'll bust out if she wants to make something bigger or a larger batch
of whatever. Anyway, we were upstairs and she wanted to check on the status of
what she had in the bigger pot and flipped open her iPad to launch the app only
to remember that it was the standard model with no connectivity she wanted to
check on. She expressed her frustration in very colorful language with having
to go downstairs just to check the time left. Me being the loving husband that
I am, I went to the kitchen instead and did a little facetime session with her
to check.
She commented on how the Bluetooth one makes things super convenient and lets
you be lazy for little things like this.
I'd like to think that if enough people continue to express their frustration
and disappointment with the accessibility challenges pertaining to this new
wifi model, the instant pot folks may eventually get around to addressing it.
Just keep the pressure on and be noisy about it.

Hi Mary,
You can use the built in program buttons on the pot and get notifications of
what the program is doing on the phone. However, I don't know what happens with
the plus and minus time buttons or the increase/decrease pressure buttons. I
will have to experiment and let you all know. Using manual settings where you
pick the cooking process and the time and pressure level, I am not sure what
kind of announcement feedback you get back. I have forgotten to mention as
well that I don't see a count-down timer on the app and just have to wait till
the automated process of a program is finished.
HTH,.
BTW, wish I had the older blue-tooth model (smile) and I hope yours lasts
forever.
Best,

Hi Terry,
So your inability to find the dashboard means you can’t control the pot from
the app, right? I shouldn’t say you’re in ability, like it’s your fault or
something. Anyway, without the ability to control the pot from the app, how
would you change the time if you wanted to do that? I suppose like with the
older pots, you could memorize the button order or refer to a braille chart,
then memorize the starting time and what happened when you hit the plus or
minus or whatever. But all in all, without the ability to control the device
from the app, it seems like kind of a bummer. What am I missing? Keeping

Well OK, it wasn’t too clear to me that you could, for instance, accessibly
change the time on something. That’s the big deal for me. I often make soup
stock in my Insta pot. And for that, I raise the time up to the max.

It sounds though that if you hit a button on the pot, the responses
would read on the phone so that's not all that bad really.
I agree that for htose of us with the older model, may it work
forever. But it's good to know that this could be worked around. I
don't care about the recipes. I have plenty of htose, I don't need the
programming. Like most peole, sighted or blind, I do most of it on
manual with a very few exceptions. I am really annoyed with this

the app, right? I shouldn’t say you’re in ability, like it’s your fault or
something. Anyway, without the ability to control the pot from the app, how
would you change the time if you wanted to do that? I suppose like with the
older pots, you could memorize the button order or refer to a braille chart,
then memorize the starting time and what happened when you hit the plus or
minus or whatever. But all in all, without the ability to control the device
from the app, it seems like kind of a bummer. What am I missing? Keeping
fingers crossed that my Bluetooth model keeps working for sometime to come.

Hi again,
Sorry I didn't see this email when I responded previously. I have not found the
dash board for setting the pot with the app and I can't get the recipes to work
either. Using the buttons on the pot, you do get notifications about the
program you start and the stage it is in wen the stage changes.

I received a WIFI-enabled instant pot for Christmas and have some questions. If

listed below.

The good news is that I was able to connect the pot to our WIFI network. quite
easily. This is where the questions begin.

1. The app for the Bluetooth-enabled pot has a dash board that enables the user
to control the pot from the app. I do not see where to do that in this app.

2. When I open the app and jump from heading to heading on the first screen I
have the following headings:
Featured Recipe
Categories
Instant pot today
Newest Recipes and
Instant Pot Today.
Under Featured Recipes I find Cauliflower Mac and Cheese. When I do a
one-finger double tap and then flick right, I get "Star Image" 4 times,
followed by "Star outline", followed by the name of the recipe's author, the
recipe's difficulty, prep time, and more. But where is the recipe?

3. When I go to Categories, and one-finger double tap on a given category, I
get inconsistent results. « Double tapping the Desserts button sometimes
produces a list of recipes.
If I have been in the app too long and pressing too many buttons, double
tapping the Desserts button produces no result at all -- I remain in the
Categories list. Closing and reopening the app solves that problem. But this is
not true of all of the Categories buttons; on some of them, such as Meat,
Poultry, and Pastas, double tapping the button produces no result at all.

Thanks for your help.

FW: WIFI-Enabled Instant Pot App

2019-01-01 Thread Terrie Terlau

-Original Message-
From: Terrie Terlau
Sent: Tuesday, January 01, 2019 8:30 AM

Subject: RE: WIFI-Enabled Instant Pot App

Hi Les,
Here is the WIFI Instant Pot button layout. I am attaching an Excel file with
the same info except that it is in rows and columns corresponding to the rows
and columns of buttons on the pot. This is for the newe WIFI model, not the old
blue tooth or other models.

There are 3 rows of 2 buttons and then three rows of 4 buttons on the pot.
starting rows of two with the top row first.

row 1
left button: soup/broth
right button rice

row 2
left button meat/stew
right button multigrain

rrow 3
left button bean/chili
right button poridge

Row 4
left button cake
second button pressure level and wifi on/off. hold for 3 seconds to turn wifi
on or off,.
third button keep warm
right button steam

Row 5
left button slow cook
second button decrease time
third button increase time
right button yogurt

Row Six
left saute
second button delay start
third button cancel
right button pressure cook

I am including other notes I took on the Quick Start materials that came with
the pot:

For pressure cooking, add at least 1.5 cups of liquid unless otherwise
specified in the recipe. Liquids include:
water; broth or stock; fruit or vegetable juice; beer or wine with low alcohol
content; water-based cooking sauces.

Do not fill inner pot higher than PC Max, 2/3 line.
for foods that expand such as rice or beans, go to the 1/2 line.

Liquids must be water based. Be cautious when cooking with more than 1/4 cup
oil, oil-based sauces, condensed cream-based soups, and thick sauces.
Add suitable liquid to thin out sauces.
Avoid recipes that call for more than 1/4 cup oil.
Before pressurizing, make sure vint is sealed, turned towards the back.

Pressurizing: until pot pressurizes and vowelve pops up, lid is removable. Once
pressurized, lid locks till depressurized.

to depressurize, can let it cool and depressurize naturally, vowelve goes down
when depressurized, or can turn handle on vint.

NR versus QR: normal release versus quick release:
Normal release, let cool naturally and vowelve goes down when pressure is
released.
Quick release use the handle to unseal the vent.

HTH.

Terrie Terlau

I don' tthink the recipe part has ever been accessible. My
understanding is that you could use the buttons from the phone with a
little study. I don't htink they flick well from what I've heard. But
I would never expect th eprogramming to work based on previous
experience. You really don't need that though. I have found it
frustrating that people haven't been able to reliably describe what
does and does not work with this. I have the older model and don't
need the new one, but eventually I'm sure we all will need it.

Has the developer broken the app recently? After reading messages on the list
in November, the app seemed to work--aside from difficulty with initial setup.
I bought one. It's sitting in its box in my garage; I was awaiting assistance
to set up the WiFi. Now, I will return it if the app isn't accessible. I will
appreciate any feedback.

I also got an Instant Pot for Christmas. I could not find a way to set programs
with the app. However, I did use the buttons on the pot to set the program and
received announcements on the phone when various parts of the program were
finished (e.g., when the program was activated, when the pressure started to
build, when the program went to the warm setting after the cooking was
finished).
If anyone wants the description of buttons and their locations on the pot, let
me know and I will send.
If there is enough interest, I will share with the list.

Hi Sandy,

Actually, since this is an iPhone app, it certainly appropriate to discuss this
on the list. I would prefer that. I’m having some of the same difficulties you
are. I don’t seem to be able to activate recipes that’s far. So I would be
interested in how people are dealing with this app. I have had discussions with
their support team, and they say that they are working on some of the issues
that we are having. But we shall see. Thanks.

WIFI-Enabled Instant Pot App

2018-12-31 Thread Sandy Finley

I received one for Christmas and have a lot of questions about the app. If
anyone who has one and has figured the app out, even a little bit, could
contact me off list, we can share information without cluttering the list.

The good news is I was able to connect the pot to our WIFI network very easily;
the problems are in pulling up recipes. Here are some of my questions.

1. The app for the Bluetooth enabled pot has a Dashboard that can be used to
configure the pot from the app. How does one control this pot from the app?

2. I see the buttons for categories of recipes but get inconsistent results
when I do a One-finger double tap. On some, such as Meats and Poultry, nothing
happens; I remain in the same screen I was in before double tapping. With
Desserts, I get a list of desserts, at least sometimes. If I have been in the
app for a while, tapping and backing out of screens, I have to close and reopen
the app to get the buttons to work.

3. Finally, I am having trouble finding an entire recipe. I find screens with
what are called “main ingredients” but cannot always find the complete list of
ingredients or the instructions. What am I doing wrong?
