RE: color identifier app

2017-02-07 Thread Richard Turner
In the world of standalone color identifiers, yes the Colorino is very good.
Also the Rainbow 2 by Emerson Electronics is also very good for basic colors
and costs about $50 less than the Colorino.

However, if you want to know if your shirt has a pattern, you will need either
sighted assistance or use an app like iDentifi or TapTapSee.

They will usually also tell you that it is blue, white, red, green flowers or
whatever.
Granted, the color accuracy with the iPhone camera is not as good as the stand
alone devices, but it can get you roughly in the ball park.

If you truly want accurate color identification you will have to have a sighted
person assist you in labelling the clothes in some form.
Digit-Eyes makes great labels that can be sown into a garment and you can
record as detailed a description as you like, but that is fairly time intensive.

This is all up to each person's level of detail they wish to know.

I have to admit, while I test all these things for clients, I cheat and just
have my sighted wife tell me what something is and whether they go together.
What can I say, I'm lazy, grin.

If I was on my own again, I would go the Digit-Eyes label route or cut my
wardrobe back to what it was in my single days where everything matched so it
didn't matter. I figure since my wife wanted me to dress in more colors, it is
her job to keep things straight, ha, ha.

Later,
Richard

RE: color identifier app

2017-02-07 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
The best option is still a good old stand-alone colour identifier like the
Colorino, it does I think 150 colours, but it speaks them as understandable
colours and not like whatever weird names they come up with like the one you
mentioned. The Colorino will say maybe "Intensive Red" or something like that,
but pretty clear what it means and much more reliable than anything you can get
for the iPhone. They do also seem to last since I had mine for probably 15
years and all I ever do is to replace the batteries maybe once a year.

Regards,
Sieghard

Which color identifying app will announce basic primary colors?
I've tried apps that announce colors like: Royal Canadian Mist".
So what color is that?
See what I'm saying?

also iDentifi does a good job. but you need to know that none of them are going
to be anywhere near what a sighted person sees, especially with patterns or
different shades.
But either app, TapTapSee or iDentifi will be close, depending on lighting of
course.

Re: color identifier app

2017-02-07 Thread Richard Turner
TapTapSee or iDentifi.
I've never heard either one use odd shade names like that.
The mistake is to use an app that calls itself a color identifier, as they tend
to get too fancy or too cute.
Both iDentifi and TapTapSee describe the picture, which includes colors,
especially of clothing.
They are both free and I often use both and compare, then ask a sighted person
at my first opportunity.
Just the other day, TapTapSee said a long sleeve shirt was gray, while iDentifi
said it was blue. It was actually a shade of blue, so in that case, iDentifi
was better. You just have to be patient while waiting for the result.
HTH,
Richard
