RE: Audio Book In Music Folder In Iphone5?

2013-01-26 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Fazil,

Maybe go over my message again because I explained exactly what you should
do to move the book to the Books library. In short, go to Get Info, then
the Options tab, tab 3 times to Media Kind and select Audio Book from
the drop-down. Check Remember Playback Position and then find OK.

Hi, Seighard.

Thanks much for such a nice explanation, actually, I found the book in the
phone. Now my question is, should I leave it in the music folder or does
Iphone5 have a separate folder for books?

Fazil.

Hi Fazil,

If the book is MP3 it would most likely have been synced to your iPhone.
Where in your listing of music it is would depend on whether any ID3 tags
were present. You can always look at the very bottom of the list view
because there is a good chance it would be there if it has no ID3 tags like
Artist, Album, Title etc. If the book is one file I suggest that once you
find it, do the following:

Put your cursor on the book and press Control+I for Get Info (this is
assuming you are using a PC).

Now find the Info tab, most likely you are on the summary tab, and tab so
you can enter the author's name under Artist, I would also put the books
name under title as well as album.

Now find the Options tab. Tab about 4 or 5 times until you see Mediaa
Kind. This is a drop-down and you can use the down arrow to review the
choices. Select Audio Book, then tab and find the checkbox to Remember
Playback Position.

Now tab to OK and press enter or the space bar.

This should move the book from your music library to the Books library where
books and audio books usually show up.

Regards,

Sieghard

Hi, list.

I have an audio book in my music folder in my pc. It is a long book about 18
hours of duration with a very low bit rate. Now my music is transferred to
myIphone5. Should I assume that this audio book is there too, or Iphone5
might have ignored it when importing other stuff because of its low bit
rate?

Your help is much appreciated.

answering the phone while on vibrate

Hi everyone. While I'm at work I usually have my phone on vibrate. I wanted to
answer my phone yesterday and got it out of my pocket while it was vibrating
and did the two finger double tap to answer the phone. It continued to vibrate
until it went to voice mail.
If it's on regular I can use the two finger double tep and answer it with no

No luck. Anybody have any suggestions?

Re: facebook apps

2013-01-26 Thread Chris H

Hello all
Can echofon do one to for example allow certain notifications but not
others? See I have a friend on there who for the majority of the time
shares nothing but photos. But other times she will update her status,
like and comment on mine, etc. I saw an entry on Applevis called Cleek,
but according to the page it is accessible but difficult to use, plus
the fact it's a paid app, which put me off trying it, especially when
I'm saving up for BrailleTouch. Anyway, I'm wandering off now smile, so
thanks for any help on this.

iPod touch stuck in recovery mode

2013-01-26 Thread johns.kary
Hi guys,
First I'll apologise for not posting anything for a long time, no excuse except
work and laziness. :).
Now for my question. I have an iPod touch 5th gen 32 gig, I plugged it in to
my mac the other day to update a few things, and finally get around to
installing IOS 6.2. wen I started the software update, iTunes informed me that
iTunes has detected an iPod in recovery mode
I restored the iPod, and now it's stuck in a recovery mode loop.

I've tried every kind of reset there is, but every time I try to do a restore
to get it up and running again, it starts to download the upgrade, but part way
through the download it just says iTunes has detected a iPod in recovery mode.

Does anyone have any other ideas I can try? I'm about an hour and a half away
from an apple store, so taking it in isn't an option.

Thanks in advance for any help.
Kari.

iTunes can't find my music

Anyone have any advice on where I can get help with iTunes? I have over 5000
songs in my music library. I originally had an external hard drive called

about a year, windows was still calling the iomega drive life book. Didn't
really matter to me, it still played on iTunes. All of a sudden Windows now
recognizes the drive as Iomega now iTunes can't find the music to play so I
added the folder from my the Iomega drive. Now it looks like some of my music
still cannot be found. Is there a way to start from scratch. Also, iTunes is
calling the play list iCloud play list, which I didn't do anything to create
that title. Any ideas on what I should do? Thanks.

Re: Solution - Sliding icons between home pages

If you should accidentally lift your finger off of the screen, you can just
find the app again and double tap and continue to move it to where you wanted
to go.

For example, if the app is already on the page you wanted to be, and you lift
your finger, just find the app double tap and continue to move it.

 Hi all,

I've solved my problem relating to moving icons between home screens.
 (Smile). Here you go...

 To move icons between screens:
 1. Make sure you have an empty space in the target page. For example make
sure there is an empty space on your HomePage#1 if you would like to move an
icon from another page to that location.
 2. Work your way over to and execute a double tap+Hold on the target icon to
 be moved.
 3. If you want to move from HomePage#2 to HomePage#1 simply slowly slide the
icon to the left edge of your device. You will be presented with a message
stating Moving XApp. You will also hear a message informing you of the page
changing from page #2 to Homepage#1. Absolutely do not remove your finger
from the screen as you are now on HomePage #1 and can now move the icon to
your desired position. Again, throughout this process do not remove your
finger off of the icon to be moved! If you remove your finger you will have
to restart this process from beginning.
 4. As you are moving around on HomePage#1 you will hear the announcement of
any icon you are crossing. Simply find the location of the desired spot on
HOmePage#1 and release your finger to drop the icon you moved from HOmePage#2.
 5. Confirm the icon has indeed been moved by moving your finger around on
Homepage#1 in an effort to find the newly moved icon.

This task takes a little practice but can definitely be done.

Re: Using the calendar and entering data into the calender

2013-01-26 Thread Jennie Facer
Hi,

In the top right corner of the screen there is an add button. Double tap this.
Now you will be in an edit field where you type in your title.
Now double tap on location which will be in the middle of the screen
thereabouts.
Type in where it will be.
Now look for something that says starts. Double tap that. Now you will have
some picker items to do. To use those, double tap on one and then slide your
finger up or down the screen to change. When you are done with that one, find
the next one at the bottom of the screen and repeat the gesture. Then in the
middle of the screen will be the end. Double tap on that to bring the other set
of pickers up to change your ending time.
Now double tap on done.
The rest is pretty simple. Just slide around and look for repeat and alert.
When you are done, double tap on done.

I hope this helps a little bit. If not, write me off list, and we can arrange a
way to talk about it.

Thank you so much!

You could also use reminders. Hold down the home key until you hear a
double tone which indicates that Siri is listening and say, Set a reminder
for whatever date you want to be reminded. Siri will respond, what do you
want to be reminded about? Double tap just above the home key and say,
Dr. appointment with so and so at such and such time. I usually have my
reminders of appointments go off the day before the actual appointment.

Hi all,I want to use my calendar on my I phone. But I will need step by

and anything else that I might need to know about the calendar. I want to
enter in doctor appointment, meetings, and other events that might come up

problems streaming on iPhone 5 resolved

2013-01-26 Thread Scott Hegle
This fix is totally by accident, but I am streaming with no drop outs. I
read somewhere that someone tried an app called StreamItAll, which by the
way is not a very powerful app at all. But, as soon as I did install it, all
my other apps streaming problem went away. In fact, I deleted StreamItAll
completely, and still, no drop outs. My guess is that when you bring over
your streaming apps from an iPhone 4 or 4S, the 5 needs to see an install of
a new radio app, I'm guessing any radio app, to teach it or show it or fix
it so it streams correctly. Incidentally, earlier I had deleted Wunder Radio
and reinstalled it, which did nothing. I know this is very strange, but I am
streaming beautifully now.

App Switcher confusion

2013-01-26 Thread Mark BurningHawk
Hi. Thanks to all who've been so helpful thus far as I fall in love with my
new Ipad. So, I don't understand App Switcher.

I have a few apps in App Switcher which appear to be running in the background,
such as Music, which don't need to be there. I was told to double tap and hold
on one of these; when I do, it says Editing app. I must be missing a step at
this point, because if I dismiss App Switcher and re-launch it, the app is
still there. So, what's the step I'm missing here?

Conversely, sometimes, if I launch an app from the home screen, it does *NOT*
appear in App Switcher, even though I want it to.

Thus the subject line. Thanks for clarification. *bow*

Hi Reg,

Is your Apple TV connected to your WiFi or do you have it connected to your
router with an Ethernet cable?

If you use WiFi there could be any number of reasons for the dropouts from a
slow internet connection to a bad WiFi connection, interference from other
wireless devices etc. I had a few dropouts on my Apple TV when I had it
connected to my WiFi, as soon as I plugged it in it was not a problem any
more which means the problem was with my WiFi and not the internet
connection/speed.

Curiously enough, I started a thread about this some time ago and got very
little interest in getting to the root of the problem.

I have the same drop out issues with my Iphone 4S with Tune in Radio and am
at a loss to determine the cause of it. I added Apple TV in December and am
having some of the same interuptions when Previewing Movies!

Anyone else have these experiences?

Anyone have a fix that has worked?

Hi Grant. I just finished reading all the threads about the streaming issue

for more than 30 seconds. I've had three phones, and I've tried them on
different networks, both with and without passwords. Sirius and Slacker
work, but ooTunes, iHeart, TuneIn, and Wunder Radio all do the same thing.
My iPHone 4S works perfectly. Thanks, and I am curious if you ever got this

Re: App Switcher confusion

2013-01-26 Thread Teresa Cochran
Also, the app switcher does not show the app you're currently using. For
instance, if you are in Mail and invoke App switcher, Mail will not be shown.

The apps in app switcher are not entirely functional. Sometimes when you unload
an app there are remnants of it in the memory, which is why it's a good idea to
clear it out once in awhile.

Re: App Switcher confusion

2013-01-26 Thread Marcy Weinberg
First you double tap an app in the app switcher and hold. You'll hear it say,
editing apps. Each app you double tap will then disappear from the app
switcher. If you see it app in there you want to launch, simply press the home
button. This will put the app switcher back into normal mode, So when you
double tap an app, it will open.

So, you don't have to exit the app switcher and go back in again to launch an
app that is already in there.

Re: App Switcher confusion

2013-01-26 Thread Bill Gallik
I guess this is as good a thread for this post as any. Well, here it is; I
want to thank members on this list profusely for the information regarding the
App Switcher. I started using my new iPhone 5 in mid-October and was noticing
an eerily progressive battery drain. Then, after reading several posts on the
App Switcher from this list, I opened it to find that there were well Nye 15
apps reported as active. Every App I had ever opened since initially deploying
this iPhone was (apparently) still in active mode.

After getting the skinny from this list, I proceeded to open App Switcher and
methodically remove each active App.

My iPhone battery is now holding a charge for what seems a reasonable time.
Thanks to each of you who contributed to my understanding, I surely do
appreciate this!

Re: App Switcher confusion

2013-01-26 Thread Mark BurningHawk
Okay, so let's say I dismiss all my apps from App Switcher. That means they're
all shut down? But, things that don't seem to take up much resources like
FaceBook, Twitter, Skype, the AIM client, … They can just stay waiting for
Push notifications, and will be in the app switcher.

Here's an interesting thing: There's a four-fingered swipe gesture that
switches you to the next app in the queue. However, sometimes, when I did that
swipe, I heard the cutest little child-like voice saying what I thought was
app Switcher, or maybe I was just hallucinating. How does one refine this
four-fingered swipe to rapidly switch applications?

Subject: problems streaming on iPhone 5 resolved

This fix is totally by accident, but I am streaming with no drop outs. I read
somewhere that someone tried an app called StreamItAll, which by the way is not
a very powerful app at all. But, as soon as I did install it, all my other apps
streaming problem went away. In fact, I deleted StreamItAll completely, and
still, no drop outs. My guess is that when you bring over your streaming apps
from an iPhone 4 or 4S, the 5 needs to see an install of a new radio app, I'm
guessing any radio app, to teach it or show it or fix it so it streams
correctly. Incidentally, earlier I had deleted Wunder Radio and reinstalled it,
which did nothing. I know this is very strange, but I am streaming beautifully
now.

Hi, Marcy. I get the double tap to shut an app down, I'm not sure what you
mean by the rest; if I see an app in Switcher I want to launch, I'll just
split tap or double tap on it, not edit it. Otherwise, I have to find it on
the the home screen or switch to it with the four-fingered swipe.

Hello,

I would like to know if anyone would be interested in purchasing
an iPad 4. It comes with an invisible shield for rear protection
and also features a screen protector. The device comes with Apple
Care protection through December 22, 2014. I would like to sell
the iPad with the Zaggfolio case, which features a spacious
keyboard and allows for comfortable viewing from portrait or
landscape view and provides satisfactory protection of the iPad
from drops. The iPad is sixteen gigs, which I found was more than
sufficient once I expanded access through Dropbox, Skydrive and
similar apps. The whole combo is like new, no wear and tare
whatsoever and ships in its original box.. I am asking for $700.
If interested, please e-mail me off-list. Paypal is preferred.
Thanks.--Joe

RE: Major problems streaming internet radio on iPhone 5

2013-01-26 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hi Reg,

You should also do a speedtest on your internet connection. The best sight
is www.speedtest.net, but unfortunately it uses a lot fo flash. It works for
me to use the second button in the main flash area, I believe it says
Unlabelled 7, but if that doesn't work you might need sighted help with the
site.

Not so sure about the WiFi except that if you have a laptop you can go to
Network and Sharing Centre, click on Change Adapter settings, then find your
WiFi adapter, right click on it and select Status. This will display the
speed with which you are connected. Monitor that for a few minutes, you have
to use the Jaws cursor if you use Jaws that is to read it.

Alternatively you can just spend $8 or $10, maybe less, and buy yourself a
long enough network cable. Just plug your Apple TV in and watch some stuff
and see if you get drop-outs, if you don't then you know it's the WiFi.

Hi Grant. I just finished reading all the threads about the streaming issue
on an iPhone 5. I have tried everything you have, and I still can't stream
for more than 30 seconds. I've had three phones, and I've tried them on
different networks, both with and without passwords. Sirius and Slacker
work, but ooTunes, iHeart, TuneIn, and Wunder Radio all do the same thing.
My iPHone 4S works perfectly. Thanks, and I am curious if you ever got this
resolved.

Some facebook questions

   Hi all,

I find in the FB app that sometimes, if someone shares a link, if you double
tap on it, you get to the link and sometimes just ot the status. then
sometimes, if you double tap again on the status once you're in it, you can
get to the link, but most times not. how does one get to a link in a
status?

Also, I still can't seem to select text in a status at all, though some say
they do it. I just can't get the hang of doing it with the touch screen.
In safari and othe apps, I can do it with my Focus 14 blue braille display,
but not in FB. is there a way to do this or is the only way the touch
screen? or can it be done at all?

thanks.

Hi all,

I was somewhat following the various posts regarding clocks and timers but
they seem to have quickly come to an end. I'm hoping those who are using
such tools will convey what they have found to be most accessible. So I
don't hog up too much of your time, please post the name of the timer or
clock you are using and I'll run the Google searches or visit the ITunes
store for details. I'm primarily wanting to look for an app that will help
me set up many alarms per day. Hopefully such an app will also allow me to
set audio beeps for every hour on the hour as well as any preconfigured
time. Again, I realize this is asking lots so please reply with a name and
I'll take care of the rest. (Smile)!

it's true that there are some unlabled buttons but one can fiddle
 with it and it's usable.

My question is this, I'm currently using the free 48 hour trial. I
can look up artists albums on my iPhone 4S running iOS 6.0.1 and
play them -- streaming them. It was my understanding that if one
pays the $9.99 per month that one can download the albums, is this right?
I've looked at the website and that seems to confirm that, but I
can't figure out how in the app I can, either on my iPhone or iPad 3rd Gen.

Plus, I'm guessing that one can create play lists from the music you
look up. Is this correct? And can they be downloaded to the
iDevice as well? Maybe when one's just getting the free 48 hour
 trial one can only stream?

I think it's neat to be able to play an entire album or a song on
demand! I do have a lot of CD's that I can burn but my XP computer
is so slow and the process is slow, maybe once I get a new computer
 it won't be that slow!

Plus, after the trial expires if I don't choose to subscribe to the
service, does it function much like Pandora? and one can stream
radio stations. the only drawback I can see to this is that free
members are extremely limited to how much they can stream!
Something like 10 hours per month! If that be the case, I'd rather
 stick to Pandora or Songza!

 Thanks

Re: App Switcher confusion

2013-01-26 Thread Teresa Cochran
Hi, Mark,

In the app switcher you have four apps per page. They're in a row at the
bottom, kind of in the same position as the dock. Those are the four most
recent apps. To get to earlier ones, do a three-finger swipe to the next page,
which I think by default is a three-fingered swipe to the left. Once you find
an app you want, just double-tap on it.

To remove apps, double-tap and hold any app. At this point, you're in an edit
mode. When you double-tap an app, instead of opening, it is deleted. Do this
for any apps you want to delete. Then press the home button to exit the edit
mode.

The high-pitched voice may be a system voice of some sort.

Just remember that you only have to do the three-finger swipe if you want to
find apps that have been opened before your four most recent apps have been
used.

Hth,
Teresa

Slow down; you'll get there faster.

the the home screen or switch to it with the four-fingered swipe.

Re: App Switcher confusion

2013-01-26 Thread Mark BurningHawk
Hi, Teresa.

Thanks for the tips on the App Switcher; think I got a handle on it, as in
earlier posts.

No, this is a four-finger swipe to the left or right from within an app itself.
If you do it right, it'll say Switching to, and then whatever the next or
previous app in your queue is. If you do it wrong, it gives you a kind of high
whimpering noise which I find rather amusing. A three-fingered flick doesn't
do this. Quite handy to switch back and forth between my messenger clients.

What I mean, is that when you're editing apps, if you want to open one of them
instead of deleting it from the app switcher, Just press the home button one
time. You will still be in the app switcher, And can double tap any app to open
it With out having to exit the app switcher.

I know this is very strange, but I am streaming beautifully
now.

Now Ron, don't imply I am giving you massages *smile*

Anyhow, since this is a quick explanation, here it is again:

Plug in your headset and make sure the phone is unlocked, then unplug your
 headset.
Now do a 2-finger swipe up, start a bit below the middle of the screen and
swipe up towards the top of the phone.
If you do this gesture correctly it will make Voiceover start reading all
the apps on your home screen starting with the very top left one.
Maybe try it first a couple of times wit the headset plugged in so you know
it works. It doesn't matter if Voiceover is on the very top left app or on
the very right app in your dock, the 2-finger swipe up will always start
reading at the top of the screen and continue to the very bottom.
After you do the swipe up repeatedly press the volume up key and hold it,
 your speaker volume should return.

What happens here is that Voiceover volume for the speaker and the headset
are treated separately. Sometimes Voiceover volume especially for the
speaker drops way down and this seems to happen especially if you use a dock
and when you remove the iPhone from the dock.
The catch is the you can only raise Voiceover volume while Voiceover is
speaking and of course it's tricky to know if it is speaking if the volume
 is at 0.

 Good luck,
 Sieghard

Re: Recording phone calls

No. It is not possible to record phone calls in any recording app and
this was a decision that Apple specifically made. However, if you use
a third-party app to place calls (i.e. Groundwire, with a phone number
from a SIP provider such as voip.ms) then you can.

Re: Recording phone calls

2013-01-26 Thread David Chittenden
It is not possible to record a phone call when the iPhone is up to your ear.
Apple does not allow any app to access the phone channel.

That said, it has been reported that you can record phone calls, using some
apps, when the phone is in speakerphone mode. Apparently, the mic is used to
record the sound from the speaker. I have not tried it, so cannot attest to
whether it works or which recording apps to use.

The reason Apple blocks direct access to the phone communication channel is
that it is illegal to record phone calls in many jurisdictions.

Re: is voicebook still being used / supported?

2013-01-26 Thread Robert Fenton
I actually still use both applications since there are times that the voice
book program shows more content then is displayable using the new Facebook
application. In addition, it is often easier through voice book to access
external links. Others may have a different experience but that is what I have
noticed today.

Re: Recording phone calls

2013-01-26 Thread Eric Caron

Using List Recorder in speaker mode I am able to record phone conversations. I
have used this to more easily get directions and phone numbers and such
recorded. To do this it is necessary to be first on the phone call then open
list recorder and start a recording when in speaker phone mode.

List Recorder is designed from the ground up to work with Voice Over. It is
available in a full version for $7.99 or in a light version for .99. The light
version is then upgradeable for $7.99.

This is a app I rely on more then almost any other. It is a excellent
recorder, a note taker, and allows for easy organization of contents. It works
with Drop box, email, and iTunes file sharing. It also now lets you append and
pre-pend to existing recordings. The newest version also allows recording to
continue when you demonstrate a app making it useful for recording podcasts of
iOS app demonstrations

That said, it has been reported that you can record phone calls, using some

record the sound from the speaker. I have not tried it, so cannot attest to
whether it works or which recording apps to use.

The reason Apple blocks direct access to the phone communication channel is
that it is illegal to record phone calls in many jurisdictions.

iBooks and iPad - autoscrolling problem

2013-01-26 Thread Michelle McQuigge

Hi all,
When I use the latest version of iBooks on my iPhone 3gs, the pages turn
automatically as voiceover reads the text and I can enjoy my literature
of choice without lifting a finger. Yet when my friend uses voiceover
and iBooks on his brand new iPad, the pages don't turn automatically.
Voiceover screeches to a halt at the end of one page, only varying the
act occasionally by completing a second page before digging its heels in
and refusing to autoscroll. Does anyone have any clue why this might be
happening? Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.

All the best,
Michelle

RE: Recording phone calls

Hi Ray,

As Jenny said, you can record a phone with List Recorder if the call is on
speakerphone only. Somehow List Recorder records in this situation and it
picks up the person's voice on the other end as it comes out of the external
speaker.

able to do this so I can record phone numbers, addresses, etc. instead of
trying to write them down while on a call. I have an Iphone 4S and is it
also possible with the Iphone 4?

Thank you very much for any help you can provide.

Hi Ramy,

It works just as well with Windows 8 as it does with Windows 7. Keep in mind
that if you are a Jaws user you do need the latest version of Jaws which is
version 14 as Windows 8 is not supported with anything prior to that, at
least not officially.

RE: Text Detective App

2013-01-26 Thread Anonymouse
Hello,

That part is rather confusing. If you are talking about the first part when
you open the app up for the first time?

This is the Tutorial part of where you have to swipe to go on with the four
pages of it.

The secret is is that flick until you get to the part where it says Page 1
of 4. Now realize that we are in the landscape mode with the Home button on
the left. Once you have the focus on the Page 1 of 4. Down do the Three
fingers swipe to the left. This will proceed on to Page 2. You will need to
do this for all four pages of the Tutorial.

Hope this helps you out and that we are talking about the same thing? ;)

RE: is voicebook still being used / supported?

2013-01-26 Thread Anonymouse
Hello,

That is a very good question. I almost have to say sadly they haven't had an
update to the app for a very long time. There was a lot of buzz around it at
first and the developer had lots of things they wanted to implement in to
it. We haven't had a peep for so long. That is a great question if they
simply gave up or not?

Sadly, I moved on.

I currently recommend the native Facebook app along with an app called
Status Report. I found using the both gets me by for my needs.

Someday I can only hope that something or somebody come out with a fantastic
all-in-one Facebook app. So until then. This is what we have to work with.

Re: Possible Accessible App. Free. LocateTV

2013-01-26 Thread MamaPeach
Did it ask you to choose your cable provider when you first installed it?
Mine did and maybe that is why I am seeing it. When I double tap on the TV
listings at the bottom, the third tab from the left, I am then given a
screen with a header that says TV Listings. I then slide my finger straight
down just a bit until I hear a channel name, or you can flick to the right
once to get to it. Mine announces Video On Demand, 1 of 338, which is the
first channel in a list of 338 channels. Then I flick up with one finger to
change the channel. I keep flicking up until I find the channel that I want
and then I simply double tap on that channel to see the shows that are
airing within a two to 3 hour time frame. If you are not seeing this, I am
not sure what to tell you.

Belkin’s new WeMo system is a family of simple, ingenious products that use

WeMo can control just about anything.

Re: Text Detective App

2013-01-26 Thread Harmony Neil
I tried using this app a couple of days ago and got it to scan, but could never
make any sense out of the results. Prismo is no better to be honest.

Hope this helps you out and that we are talking about the same thing? ;)

I found this to be one of my favorite OCR program to date.

Has anyone been able to make the Text Detective App work? I can't get past
the first page. It says three finger flick left to get to next step and I
can't get it to do that. Any help would be greatly appreciate or if there
is an easier app for reading envelopes and documents please let me know.
 Thanks!

 Carla

Re: Itune with windows 8

2013-01-26 Thread Chris H

Yes I can confirm this. iTunes works very well under Windows 8.

Hi Ramy,

It works just as well with Windows 8 as it does with Windows 7. Keep in mind
that if you are a Jaws user you do need the latest version of Jaws which is
version 14 as Windows 8 is not supported with anything prior to that, at
least not officially.
