I see no issue here with the numbers of various types of information and
orientation apps out there like Blindsquare, goodmaps outdoors, etc. And
damn, there may even be some folks out there willing to pick up the ball.

Firstly , thank you all so much for sharing my recent post about the
imminent demise of Microsoft Soundscape. It is obvious from the number

was shocked by the news.

Now, this is not a direct response to me from Microsoft - however…
Via a chain of contacts I have been lead to believe that one of the
main reasons for Microsoft discontinuing Soundscape is that they don’t
think very many people use it.Apparently they have no way of knowing,
which I have to say rocks my world somewhat.
So, here’s the thing. Let’s let Microsoft know how much we use, and
how much we rely on it for safety, independence and orientation.
You never know, this might be that one time when pester power actually
works.
So,once again, please share this post far and wide, andlet’s see if we
can get Microsoft to change it’s mind.

Wow, well that’s one more reason I don’t want to update to higher versions of
16! You might try going into notifications and making sure that receiving
notifications from Apple is turned off.

Microsoft Soundscape - Further Information
Firstly , thank you all so much for sharing my recent post about the imminent
demise of Microsoft Soundscape. It is obvious from the number of comments and
shares the post got, that I am not the only one who was shocked by the news.
Now, this is not a direct response to me from Microsoft - however…
Via a chain of contacts I have been lead to believe that one of the main
reasons for Microsoft discontinuing Soundscape is that they don’t think very
many people use it.Apparently they have no way of knowing, which I have to say
rocks my world somewhat.
So, here’s the thing. Let’s let Microsoft know how much we use, and how much we
rely on it for safety, independence and orientation.
You never know, this might be that one time when pester power actually works.
So,once again, please share this post far and wide, andlet’s see if we can get
Microsoft to change it’s mind.

Of course, folks can call Microsoft Accessibility 800-936-5900 at least in the

RE: Further updates Microsoft Soundscape app

2023-01-01 Thread Richard Turner
I think if people want to pester Microsoft to try and keep SoundScape that is
fine, but the real truth is they have decided they have all the research
findings they want from SoundScape, so they are done with it and are happily
making the source code available to anyone who wants to do something with it.

I see no issue here with the numbers of various types of information and

there may even be some folks out there willing to pick up the ball.

Re: Reading Kindle Books in Braille

2023-01-01 Thread Anna Dresner
Hello Kelly,

I’m using a Brailliant BI 40 X with the latest beta on a 2020 iPhone SE. With
automatic panning on, I don’t have to do anything when switching pages in a
Kindle book; when I get to the bottom of one page, it switches to the next one
automatically. The braille commands for switching pages are O with Space to go
to the next one and OW-sign with Space to go to the previous one. I think you
said you were using a Mantis, and I don’t know what the equivalent commands
would be.

Best,
Anna

tape measure

2023-01-01 Thread Janet Bell
Please forgive this if you think it is a silly question but can someone
tell me how long a tape measure is in America please?  the reason is
that on my Alexa the daily riddle was what is long and flat and has four
feet.  the answer was a tape measure.  In the UK a tape measure is five
feet long.  so I was just wondereing how long they are in America.

I have not encountered any coupon announcements on my 14.

Keep in mind, however, that I have only experienced 16.2 and no earlier version

Subject: Mentions and Group Conversations on iPhone

Good Afternoon, All:

I'm hoping someone can help me tame a couple things in the iPhone
messages app that have been annoying me.

When I finish composing or sending a message, I often hear mention or
mentions or mentioned and one of these is in my rotor. My search so far
shows that this seems to have something to do with group conversations
and if I am mentioned. I do not participate in any group conversations.
Running IOS 16.1.2, In settings: messages; mentions notify me is off.
Group conversationing is on. Am I correct that I want to turn it off?
Share name and photo is off;share it with you is on and I think I'm not
thrilled about it. Could someone explain this better?

One article I found says that Keep in mind that the notify me setting as
off "will only be useful if you’ve already muted the group
conversation." I'm not getting a lot of messages from someone or many
unwanted message, so, at this point, don't see the need to mute.

To slim down the rotor, can I remove the mentions item?

Any help is much appreciated,

Margaret

I know that cloth or plastic measuring tapes are usually 5' long, but metal

A Question about Facetime Audio Output in iOS16.2: It is Different than on other Apps

2023-01-01 Thread M. Taylor
Hello Everyone,

I have noticed that when making Facetime calls on my 14, via wired Apple
Earpods, the audio output is different than it is when I am listening to
audio anywhere else in the OS. The audio sounds is kind of spacial, or
something.

This is not the case when making Facetime calls on my beloved 8 Plus running
iOS 15.x.

Has anyone else noticed this and, if so, is there a way to disable it? I am
not a huge fan of spacial audio, at least, not at this point.

All replies greatly appreciated.

Mark

Locking the Display on iPhone 14 Pro Max with a VoiceOver Gesture, not the Power Button: A Great Solution for Southpaws Like Me

2023-01-01 Thread M. Taylor
Hi All,

I my beloved 8 Plus, I had the display set to automatically lock after 30
seconds.

On the 14, with Face ID enabled, I find it more practical to set the auto
lock to 1 minute.

However, as I become more and more proficient with both the physical device
and the OS, rarely do I need the extra time afforded by the longer display
time.

As a result, I prefer to lock the display, manually, by using the phone's
power button, located on the right side of the device.

I always hold the phone in my left hand.

Given that I am a southpaw, along with the native physical size of the Pro
Max, increased by the addition of the folio case, and using the power button
to lock the display becomes less streamline than on a smaller device. In
short, pressing the power button, in the case, takes more effort than I
expected.

The solution for me? I set a VoiceOver gesture command, a 4-finger single
tap, to lock the display.

Using this command means that I no longer have to locate the power button
with a finger on my right hand and press it in order to lock the display.

I am posting this to remind everyone that if you feel that you may want to
increase any given task on iPhone, check to see if there is a solution in
the VoiceOver gesture commands area of accessability.

Mentions and Group Conversations on iPhone

2023-01-01 Thread Margaret Thomas

Margaret

RE: A Question about Facetime Audio Output in iOS16.2: It is Different than on other Apps

2023-01-01 Thread M. Taylor
Hello Marilyn,

Thank you for re-posting this.

While interesting, this did not pinpoint the source of the enhanced audio in
face time.

However, I was able to determine that the new audio sound, when in Face Time,
is a function of the 14 and not of the OS.

iOS 16.2 on the 11, the iPad, and a couple of other phones does not reproduce
the effect. The effect has nothing to do with VoiceOver, either.

I was able to contact a friend, who also recently purchased iPhone 14 Pro and
he confirmed the enhanced sound effect which, is not bad; it just makes the
person on the other end sound as though they are in the same room as you are.
I know, I know, I should be pleased, right? Put it down to me being a man who
does not like unexpected or unexplained change (big smile).

Mark

Subject: A Question about Facetime Audio Output in iOS16.2: It is Different
than on other Apps

Hello Everyone,

I have noticed that when making Facetime calls on my 14, via wired Apple
Earpods, the audio output is different than it is when I am listening to audio
anywhere else in the OS. The audio sounds is kind of spacial, or something.

This is not the case when making Facetime calls on my beloved 8 Plus running
iOS 15.x.

Has anyone else noticed this and, if so, is there a way to disable it? I am
not a huge fan of spacial audio, at least, not at this point.

All replies greatly appreciated.

Mark

RE: Locking the Display on iPhone 14 Pro Max with a VoiceOver Gesture, not the Power Button: A Great Solution for Southpaws Like Me

2023-01-01 Thread M. Taylor
Hello Mohamed ,

I like your configuration.

I use the triple back tap to invert the colors. I use the double back tap to
return to the home screen.

It is interesting to learn how different people use the commands. Bravo to
Apple for giving us some choices.

Mark

Hi,

My solution to prevent the usage of power button at all is to use back tap
feature on my iPhone 10s.

In settings > accessibility > touch > back tap, turn it on.

For double tap, it turns the screen off, and for triple tap, it toggles Siri
(you may also open Google Assistant that way).

I can reach the iPhone’s power button, but tapping the back of the iPhone with
a finger is easier to me.
