This Conference calls upon the Board of Friends of the Earth to investigate the scientific reports, satisfy themselves as to the validity and potential of the new energy sources and then to rewrite our basic campaign strategies to take the coming revolution in energy supply into account and, further, to actively promote the new devices as a solution to global warming and pollution. When these devices become mainstream we will be fully prepared to hit the ground running. Unfortunately, back then, the evidence was by no means clear cut and, although there was plenty of interest (and some excitement) in the concept, the view was that the best thing to do was to wait it out. Decentralisation of energy supply and the cost and energy effective conservation and recycling of materials is an incredibly deep aspect of green thought, all of which would be achievable with LENR devices. In 1996 I wrote an article for Infinite Energy (click for link) that speculated that, although there could be some novel problems if everyone had as much energy as they desired, that overall the environemental effect of LENR would be beneficial as it would enable the Green movement to concentrate more on habitat and biodiversity protection and all the other stuff apart from climate change and peak oil. You cannot imagine how green I am in fact(because of the 70s and 1974 energy saving campaign in Europe). but these days things are getting crazy, and the green that you depict are no more influent. visible greens are no more like what you say. it has became an apocalyptic sect, highly competent in influencing media . on many domains, they are just behaving like propagandizing priest, irrational frighteners, pathologic liars, manipulating humans feeling, using media... when you know the environmental problems, the technology, it is frightening to see how thing evolves and lies spread quickly with media support... they terrorize and racket scientist and business... who submit and adapt to survive... (same reason LENR get buried for 20 years). maybe is there a need for irrationality, dogma, guiltiness, absolutism, and since we have tamed the religions, something else have to take the business. maybe things are different for you in your country, and your green are better, but in France things are getting rough for the truth. it is frightening to see the propaganda spreading in my near, and it is hard to explain the facts... Don't go to fast. In 1995 I came back, from Power Gen 95, to my Utility Employer and wrote and impact statement about Clean Energy Technologies device. It was reported, We have liftoff. Motorola offered 60 million for the technology. Miley independently tested it. By now all of the world was to be powered by cold fusion. That was 16 years ago. I do not think it was $60 million. As I recall it was more like $15 million. Nothing changed because Patterson turned down the offer. You have a valid point. If Rossi does not do a proper demonstration and his alliance with a large company falls through, he might be dead in the water. Defkalion might be stalled indefinitely. Others may not be able to replicate the powder. In other words, everything might go wrong. In that case, there will be no public relations breakthrough in 2012, and cold fusion will not become widely known. I doubt things will go that badly, but they sure gone badly in the past, so you never know. Defkalion is behind schedule, as everyone knows. I think they are working to catch up, and in the next quarter they will be able to do the kinds of demonstrations they hoped to do in November. It is not unusual for a project of this nature to be late. The book Empires of Light describes the Niagara Falls electrification project of the 1890s. I perceive Krivit's actions as more like that of a cat with nine lives. IOW, Krivit and NET will somehow survive the Rossi embarrassment. Krivit once told me that after the cold fusion controversy was resolved, he might consider investigating the injustices inherited in the current health-care system. Its possible Krivit might do a world of good investigating that can-o-worms. I suspect Krivit's talents fare best when coming to the aid of all the Dulcineas in the world. Krivit will eventually find other windmills to slay. He may even become famous. Jed will continue to inform the world about the wonders of cold fusion as he has until now. The job will become a lot easier as people will start to believe what he has to say since the process is proven. It make the fight against Nuke use less, killing thus one of their marketing department. it will also be opposed by all the rats that use those green ideas to make crony business with unjustified subsidies, manipulated markets, inefficients solutions, manipulated consumers. indirectly it will be opposed by all green lobby on false medicine, false fear , because this big success of science and failure of fearful consensus pseudo-science will move the mind of (the occidental rich) population to love science again, instead of fearing it today. In 1980, CBS launched a advertising campaign for their hit show Dallas featuring the catch phrase Who Shot JR. The last show of the season was going to reveal the culprit who shot JR. In England, where you can bet on just about anything, officials refused to allow people to bet on the outcome of this because it was not a random event and the outcome was already decided. Someone might read the script, or or one of screenwriters might place a large bet. Along the same lines, long ago I decided not to make predictions or bets on the future of cold fusion, because the script is already written. Events were largely a matter of choice. That is, free will. Rossi and many other researchers are sitting on results that they could reveal if they chose to, which would profoundly change the outcome, and the whole course of human history. On the other side, people in high places at the DoE or the APS choose to remain ignorant of this subject. Like Mary Yugo and Robert Park, they have made a decision to read nothing. Perhaps they want to maintain plausible deniability. Who knows? The point is, they can type LENR.org into a browser anytime. There is nothing stopping them. There are no longer barriers blocking access to information. Fifteen years ago, if you wanted to learn about cold fusion or some other technical subject, you had to go to a university library, or ask experts. You had to make an effort, and spend time and money. The physical reality of getting books and papers and the fact that these papers were only available in university libraries precluded easy access to information. It was easy to see that most people would not make the effort to learn about cold fusion, especially in view of the opposition to it and the nonsense in the mass media. Now, you type a few keystrokes and world of knowledge opens up. It is like the miracle described by Matthew 7:7: Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you . . . Now, the only thing stopping these people is their own mind. I will not try predict people's thoughts. Free will is a complicated subject. It may exist, or it may be an illusion we feel because we inhabit mammalian predator brains. Inhabiting the brain of an honey bee would feel very different, I suppose. Perhaps making a decision or coming up with a new idea is is the result of random processes. At the deepest level, these events may be governed by quantum mechanics, so they are completely random and cannot be predicted even in principle. Whatever the situation is, a decision by Rossi to allow a test, or a decision by the editor at a journal or Washington Post to allow the truth about cold fusion to be published are acts of human will. One decision by any one of hundreds of people could change the situation overnight, like a wind-blown snowball that triggers an avalanche. The situation is unstable and poised for catastrophic change. That does not mean a change is inevitable. Snow that might trigger an avalanche might also melt away peacefully. There is nothing in the known universe as complicated and unpredictable as the human mind. I try to influence people's thoughts actions but I do not try to predict them. The present and future of cold fusion is entirely governed by free will. In the past cold fusion could not be controlled. We did not know enough about it. It was still an open question as to whether it *could be* made practical. We did not know. Now, the scientific mysteries have been cleared up enough that we can be certain. The effect can be made practical. It can be commercialized. It can prevent global warming and save millions of lives. There is no longer any doubt about that. Whether that will happen or not is entirely a matter of choice. - Jed

I predict that LENR will see enormous growth and even a see real publication in a peer reviewed journal. I think that transmutations will be nearly universally accepted, but environ of competing theories will be too fluid to balance. I predict that Rossi will not produce his own useful LENR device, unless he is brought onboard by a reputable company.
