Re: What the? AGAIN

Hi again everyone,

No, Onno, I was not sending HTML ( I know enough not to send that! ).

I think I may have found the problem though... I just received
e-mail back from someone with the same Undeliverable Message
statement including the time that I sent the original. ONLY problem
is - I wasn't even home at the time and also I have no idea who the
person is I was supposed to have e-mailed.

As I receive bogus e-mail almost everyday now usually with a nice
suspicious attachment file I dare say a virus spreader has taken hold
of my e-mail address. I never open these files but they keep coming.
I wonder if a virus is actually in my machine.

I have the latest Virex Update and scan regularly and never open any
files that I do not expect or can confirm.

Has anyone else been having the same trouble?

Cheers,
Brad

Unlikely, unless you're one of the lucky new recipients of an as yet
unknown Macintosh virus (assuming you're using a Mac, of course).

Anyone can send e-mail that purports to come from your e-mail
address, including viruses. This is one of the methods viruses use to
encourage people to open their virus payload, and ensure their own
survival. E-mail is inherently insecure, unless it's
cryptographically signed or encrypted.

Yes.

Your Home folder contains a Music folder and a Pictures folder.
Assuming a standard setup, your iTunes folder and your iPhoto Library
folder are inside these folders respectively. Just copy them to the
respective Music and Pictures folders in your Home folder on the iBook.
They will automatically take on the permissions of their enclosing
folders, so you should have no problem accessing them once the copying
is done.

Re: Copying itunes and iphoto

2004-05-12 Thread Andrew Bennett
Hi again Mac'ers...

The itunes library on the imac is version 2... I went and purchased ilife
which provides v 4 however the install did not upgrade v 2 but simply
installed another copy on the hard disk.. so now I have two versions, each
with different libraries.

I was told to ensure I had the same versions of the itunes before copying
libraries from one machine to another... so now I am wondering what to do
next..

Again any advice would be appreciated...

.mac tip for the day

2004-05-12 Thread Rod

Hi All!

Quick .mac tip for the day. If you use webmail to delete big attachments
before they download to your email program, make sure you also empty the
'Deleted Messages' folder at webmail.mac.com. When you delete a message
online, it still stays on the server in the deleted messages folder, but
just doesn't get downloaded to your Mac. If not, you will exceed your quota
quickly, but inspecting your inbox online will show there is no mail there
to delete!

No wonder I wasn't getting any mail!

Best Toner supplier in Perth? LaserWriter repairs?

2004-05-12 Thread Rod

Hi All!

Two questions for a very quiet list today :-)

Firstly, where is the best place in Perth to buy LaserWriter toners? I need
one for a 16/600 PS.

Secondly, who is a reputable repairer of laserwriters in Perth? My usual
guy no longer repairs them (as he has moved from Perth), so I am looking for
someone who can repair a 12/640. It has the usual paper feed problems (from
both trays and duplexer) and when I have got it to print, there are
horizontal lines across the paper.

Any ideas?

Software Update Question

2004-05-12 Thread Richard Kay
Just received 12 iBook G4 1GHz ... have downloaded and installed
updates via Software Update but there are three showing in the update
window which appear to be 'optional' (i.e. they didn't have a green
button beside them and didn't install automatically like the other 9
packages).

The first of these three is Airport Software 3.4.1 with a grey info
arrow next to it and an unchecked check box. The other two are Apple
Bluetooth Module Firmware 1.1 and iSight Update 1.0.2 neither of which
have a grey info arrow beside them, although they each have unchecked
check boxes next to them.

Does the fact that these three didn't install like the rest, and
require me to actively select them via the check boxes mean:

1. I don't need them on my machine?

2. They are optional on my machine and can be installed if I want?

3. Some other reason?

Any help would be appreciated.
