weird, thanks for that but although the printer prints hapily in os9, it still wont print in X. Looks like it is going to be relagated. The trick to getting it going again was to print something in OS9 Classic. Go ito chooser, select the 740, close chooser, print a single page of something - may need to create a brief document in simpletext. Somehow the connection to the printer was then locked in, and Gimp print would find it in OSX and printing would return. I'd have to do this after the printer had been turned off, or maybe even if the computer was restarted. Life is much easier now with a $79 Lexmark.. Hi Hugh, I have sent you an attachment by direct email the Macfixit article about the software Printer Setup Repair . The Download site offers a 7 day trial . Perhaps this will help . iSight. Why would you want anything else? Colours in Word
I have recently had occasion to create several letterhead templates in MS Word. These involve coloured logos which print correctly out of Word but visibly on screen and worse on printing display significant colour shifts. I have noticed the same thing when importing JPEGS into PowerPoint. It is like a profile mismatch. Is there any solution other than clumsily precorrecting the colours before importing the artwork into Word? Re: Webcams for Skype Video
Thanks Rod, Problem is that iSight is very expensive, so I was looking for better priced alternatives, but without resorting to USB. The other problem is that we only use it to converse with my step son in Dubai. he uses Windows so iChat is not an alternative. Anyway now that Dubai have blocked Skype I am using SightSpeed, but still would like a webcam for that. Re: Webcams for Skype Video
I was wondering why you would not want to use a USB webcam - it would appear to be the best option for something that is not too expensive and works with Windows. USB 2 is fast. Questions about iChat ?
Hi folks, Rod mentioned the high quality of audio and video using iSight with iChat when communicating with folks in Canada. I have a couple of questions. I always thought that iChat (and AIM) simply use text with optional video. Does iChat actually use audio for conversation ? Also, must one have a .Mac subscription to use iChat ? Re: Webcams for Skype Video
Hi Susan, I was checking around on the web last night and the Logitech Quickcam Pro caught my eye. It is USB 2, but I was not sure if my eMac 1.25 has a USB 2 port ? Al the USB ports look the same. I am not too keen on the standard USB webcams because I have seen them in use and they seem to freeze and jump a lot that would drive me crazy On 28/08/2006, at 8:50 PM, Susan Hastings wrote: I was wondering why you would not want to use a USB webcam - it would appear to be the best option for something that is not too expensive and works with Windows. Thank you Nicholas. That sounds great ! I also have a .Mac address but thought it was redundant.
