CD Spin Doctor
I am using Toast 10.0.5 and CD Spin Doctor 6.1.2 and Leopard 10.5.8 on a G5 1.8SP. Spin Doctor used to work capturing internet streamed audio with Toast 9, from memory, but the latest version fails. I have not used it for some time so my history is hazy. The sticking point seems to be the installing of Audio Capture Support which appears to install but does not show up as an input in CD Spin Doctor or on Sound Preferences. There is a wealth of blather on forums and it seems Snow Leopard is for now incompatible but that should not be a problem in my case. Is anyone else having success? Re: Apple Mail - Display Remote Images query
Thanks Ronni. It's got me beat as well, but I can put the improvement down to no other cause than changing that setting, and the difference was immediately noticeable. I guess I could test it by switching the setting on and off, but since it's not a problem, best I not spend the time. On 16/02/2010, at 3:48 AM, Ronda Brown wrote: On 16/02/2010, at 3:28 AM, Steven Knowles wrote: I use Apple Mail and Snow Leopard. Historically I've always had Display remote images in HTML messages deselected in the Viewing panel of Mail's Preferences. I had cause to change this, so the option is now selected, with remote images on display. I don't know whether it's coincidental, but suddenly I seem to have a substantial performance boost with Mail, and the computer generally, since changing the preference setting. I would have guessed it would be the opposite, ie. Mail now has to bring down extra data, therefore reducing performance. But nope, the positive difference is stark. Anyone know why this would be? Makes a nice change from trying to solve a problem! Hi Steven, I can't see how enabling Display remote images in HTML messages would give a performance boost with Mail, in fact I would expect the message to download slower. From Mail Help: Some messages may use HTML to include remote images which, when retrieved from the sender’s servers, reveal information about your computer’s address. You can protect your privacy by not loading remote images contained in messages you receive. In addition, when you don’t load remote images, messages download more quickly. From Take Control of Apple Mail: For incoming messages in HTML format, Mail provides an option to disable display of embedded graphics, which can signal the server that you’ve read the message—compromising your privacy and potentially leading to more spam. Go to the Viewing preference pane and uncheck Display Remote Images in HTML Messages. If you want to see the graphics in a message with graphics off, click the Load Images button near the top of the message pane (or window). Magic Mouse hiccup
I'm using an Apple magic mouse on my new iMac i5, Mac OS 10.6.2 and when it is functioning well it is wonderful. Unfortunately it has this awkward habit of invoking the Exposé Show Desktop with left mouse clicks. This is intermittent and appears to be increasing in frequency, sometimes two or three in a row and often every 3rd or 4th click. If I don't physically hold the mouse and just click with one finger press it seems to work normally but I'd have RSI in 5 minutes if I had to do that. Considering Apple doesn't even include the Exposé function natively with the mighty mouse I'm not sure what's happening. I did install MagicPrefs to see f that could help - it does help me get back from the Exposé status (not always so easy otherwise) but has no effect on the initial problem. I have turned off all Exposé settings and trashed the mouse preference plists, to no avail. Can anyone help with this one? Hi Sam From another post: I would also recommend you make a backup of your MacBook data using SuperDuper or Carbon Copy Cloner http://www.shirt-pocket.com/SuperDuper/SuperDuperDescription.html or http://www.bombich.com/ onto an external drive. You can also make a bootable disk image of your entire hard drive, if needed, on your new external drive. Re: Emac went dim
This too! Once you've done that, use SuperDuper or Carbon Copy Cloner to make a disk image of your Restore drive onto an external disk, just in case you might need it sometime in the distant future. Then use SuperDuper (I paid for registration on my copy for some good extra tricks - like making a bootable copy to external drive without having to wipe the drive) - and make a disk image of your entire hard drive, system, docs etc onto the external drive. I happened to be browsing for a Logitech wireless mouse last night and the item here (link below - VX Nano) came up at the Apple store. Listed for around $110 in the Apple store and a quick look at eBay I spotted Buy it now for $49. Seems very good value. S cheap I will just grab one of these as an interim until the OSX upgrade to 'resolve' the glitches I am having with the Magic Mouse. It also states up to six months battery life - I'd be happy with 6 days battery life at the moment! It doesn't have all the 'smarts' of the MM, but if it doesn't work reliably, it doesn't matter how smart it is, it is not going to be used. http://store.apple.com/au/product/TQ871X/A Cheers Peter. I was given a magic mouse for Christmas, and although it is a beautiful device, I quickly returned to my much cheaper Logitech mouse. It does the same job but is so much more reliable and so much more user friendly. The previous Apple mouse I had lasted me just 4 months, could not be dismantled unless all the glued parts were forcibly prised apart ... a real nightmare. My opinion is that Apple should outsourced their mice to other companies and Logitech would be a good choice. Sorry I do not have a solution for your particular problem. But WAMUG does have some very knowledgeable members who I'm sure will be able to help. Good luck regards, Philippe C 2010/2/16 Mike Fuller blis...@tpg.com.au: I'm using an Apple magic mouse on my new iMac i5, Mac OS 10.6.2 and when it is functioning well it is wonderful.
