Re: Connecting Macbook pro to iMac
Thanks Neil David PaulThe answer is Yes you can connect the new 27 inch iMac (late 2009 onwards) to a macbook to use the iMac as a second monitor. All you need is a Mini Display Port male to male cable ($29 i think)Then you can utilise programs such as Aperture and Final Cut which allow for a second monitor. It's REALLY useful in Aperture to have your browser and Inspector HUD open on the macbook and then the imac as a secondary display shower a full screen view of the photo.cheersBlitto Rod Blitvich-Amy Sam’s Dad. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .0409 681 256 rb...@iinet.net.auhttp://web.me.com/blittoThe day Microsoft makes something that doesn't suckis probably the day they start making vacuum cleaners On 24/07/2010, at 6:38 PM, Neil Houghton wrote: Hi Rod, Yes, you should be able to do that. The Mini DisplayPort lets you connect an external display, including the Apple LED Cinema Display, to your iMac. On the 27-inch iMac, the same port offers input, too. So you can connect any external source that has DisplayPort output — including a MacBook or MacBook Pro — and use your iMac as a display. You have to put the iMac into “Target Display” mode, this article gives some more detail: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht3924 and has this to say about the cable you need: Note: Target Display mode requires a Mini DisplayPort to Mini DisplayPort cable, such as the Belkin Mini DisplayPort to Mini DisplayPort cable, which is sold separately at the Apple Store as part number TX706VC/A. You should be able to use it as either a mirror of the Macbook Pro screen or as a second (extended desktop) monitor – depending on how you set the Macbook Pro. I think this is a great feature – I imagine a few buyers might decide just to get an iMac rather than an Apple display – for a bit more money you get, in effect, a spare computer thrown in ;o) Cheers Neil -- Neil R. Re: Connecting Macbook pro to iMac
Not as far as I am aware and I have heard this question a few times now. Something that comes to mind however is remote desktop/screen sharing. Some screen sharing solutions offer a choice as to which screen to connect to, so the idea would be to connect to the laptops 'second' screen (if possible without a screen being attached that is) and set it to full screen. Apple's shareholders would not be impressed ;-) Cinema display anyone? This sounds so convenient that it is likely to be impossible ;-) Good luck Paul -- The WA Macintosh User Group Mailing List -- Archives - http://www.wamug.org.au/mailinglist/archives.shtml Guidelines - http://www.wamug.org.au/mailinglist/guidelines.shtml Unsubscribe - mailto:wamug-unsubscr...@wamug.org.au

I connected the iBook to the display of my 24in iMac using ScreenRecycler: http://www.screenrecycler.com/ScreenRecycler.html This would be worth checking out to see if it is what you need.
