Sale of Solid State Drives !

2020-12-06 Thread Stephen Chape
Hi folks.

I have recently noticed Officeworks advertising Samsung SSD 500GB for $98.00.
And more recently WD SSD 500GB for $79.00.

So just a cautionary note.

Upon investigation I found that they are probably older models.
The transfer speed for the advertised WD SSD is 400 mb/s whilst the current
models are 1050 mb/s.
So a big difference in speed !!

I don’t know about the Digest because I don’t use it, but it certainly opened
fine from the email. I’d like to congratulate and thank you for your efforts in
documenting your process in preparing your iMac for sale. It strikes right at
the heart of what WAMUG should be all about. Those of us who attempt to
document certain tasks generally do so in response to expressed problems by
members of the list. I know I speak for the committee when I say your
off-the-cuff contribution is most welcome.

[For Sale-free/donation] Two HP Laserjet 8000dn Printers

2013-02-25 Thread Tim Law
All,

A friend of mine has two HP Laserjet 8000DN printers to give away as a working
pair to the Mac community. Free or make a donation to a good cause.

They are functional office workhorses that have $300 worth of toner still in
them. These are not desktop units, they are large stand alone devices that do
duplex A3 and A4 printing. One works perfectly and the other one only jams on
A3 dupexing. They need to go as a pair so that one is future spare parts for
the other.

There is a picture of one of them at http://tiny.cc/f6f3sw

They have been running on a Mac network via USB connections.

Contact the owner on 93704014, ask for Sally. or email sa...@jetson.net.au

Tim

apps. Well done team.

Notice came from Apple today that my new MBP was shipped this afternoon.
Looking forward to an interesting weekend - hopefully.

iTeleport for remotely controlling Mac or PC from iPhone or iPad on sale tomorrow

2012-09-03 Thread Martin Hill
I highly recommend this iPhone/iPad app - I bought it for the regular $25 price
and think it was still worth it so $1.99 is an absolutely fantastic deal.

It allows you to remotely control your Mac or PC at home or work without having
to worry about port-forwarding or NAT-PMP etc thru firewalls from anywhere in
the world. It can also turn your iPhone/iPad into a wireless
remote/trackpad/keyboard for your PC or Mac when in the same room.

iTeleport announces 24-hour price drop of 96% on Mac App Store
September 3, 2012 in Networks and FTP

[prMac.com] Mountain View, California - iTeleport is pleased to announce an
exciting price drop event on September 4, 2012. iTeleport is a top-grossing
iPhone, iPad and Mac app that lets users control their Mac / Windows PC from
anywhere. It has been reviewed in prestigious publications such as the Wall St.
Journal.

On September 4, 2012, iTeleport on the Mac App Store will have a price drop
from its current $49.99 price to $1.99 for 24 hours, in conjunction with Two
Dollar Tuesday - a 96% price drop. Additionally, iTeleport on the iPhone / iPad
App Store will have a price drop from $24.99 to $7.99.

iTeleport has consistently had incredible reviews from its loyal user-base.
iTeleport has helped hundreds of thousands of users connect to their remote
computers more than 20 million times since its introduction to the App Store in
2008. It supports the VNC RDP remote desktop standards. It has a patented
intuitive user interface that users love - controlling the remote mouse using
the iPhone screen as a touchpad. This Tuesday, iTeleport invites all
budget-conscious app shoppers to try out the apps - and get the entire iOS
Mac offerings for less than $9.99.

iTeleport has been described as unbelievably wicked (David Pogue), and the
best iPhone application ever (Boy Genius Report). 84% of our customers have
given us 5-star ratings for version 6.0, with glowing reviews. One such user
said:

This app is simply phenomenal. I cannot say how much time and money it has
saved me both for work, and simply accessing my own PCs for various purposes.
Beautiful design, great support (have had it for several years now and support
is still five stars - regular updates and personal responses) and top-tier
design standards/quality. I have seen the setup/install process continue to
improve and get easier these past years to the point where now all of the
fairly complex VNC config issues are no longer issues for the user. The gmail
integration eliminates the traditional router config headaches - just a
brilliant design. Frankly I would have paid twice the price (or more) and it
still would have been a steal IMO. Thank you team for a superb, tight
application! [...] This app is absolutely the most valuable app I have owned in

For Sale - MacBook Pro 17

2012-07-12 Thread S Beach
Hi All

*In case anyone is interested I am selling my trusty MacBook Pro 17. *
I would probably keep using this faithful workhorse if it were not for my
ongoing need to run high end CAD software and I am selling now because the
time is right for tax purposes and because it still has apple car for buyer
peace of mind.

I bought it for my business but for the last 2 years have been doing
contract work with computer provided so this has had much less work than I
expected it to.

*Battery* is still in good condition and still lasts for several hours
(from memory about 4-5hrs) under average usage.
*Screen* is in excellent condition and working perfectly
Unfortunately I probably won't be getting another 17 due to Apple
discontinuing them so this sale is with some reluctance.

*Full Specs here:*
http://support.apple.com/kb/SP546

Note though that the following items are upgraded:

   - *Processor: 3.06 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo*
   - *RAM: 8 GB*
   - *Hard Drive: 500GB - 7200 RPM high speed drive*
   - *Antiglare display*
   - *Apple Care cover till end October (~3 months)*
   - *Mac OS X 10.7.4 Lion - *will do a fresh reinstall (if preferred I can
install *Snow Leopard* from the original disks)

This is basically a maxed out top of the range specimen of this model in
excellent physical and functional condition.
Given that it was top spec when purchased it is still a powerful machine.
Despite being a dual core not a quad core CPU it is still well and truly
capable of handling most common tasks you can poke at it.

It comes with:

   - *iLife 09* (includes iPhoto, iMovie, iDVD, iWeb, GarageBand)
   - *Microsoft Office 2008 Home Student* (if you want it) - Genuine 3
user retail box with original disc, Certificate of Authenticity and Product
   keys
   - Genuine Windows Vista or Windows XP installed in Boot Camp partition
(if you want it - good for Windows Switchers). (Vista was a bit of a dog
when first released but latest service packs render it quite useful if you
   need to use windows occasionally.)
   - *Silicon keyboard protector*

*All packed nicely in the original box* - just as Steve intended.
The whole unit is clean with no scratches or dents that I can see. Given
the original purchase price I treated it with great care and respect!
I am happy to send photos and documentation of Apple Care, Battery life
etc. to anyone who is genuinely interested.

*And the Price… *well from what I see of the current market I think it is
worth $1500. I hope that is realistic given it's spec, condition and level
of care; feel free to make an offer if you think I am wrong.

Details as per system info:

How I feel has nothing to do with this at all.

Software is never sold, Its always licensed! You get a copy of it and a
 license to use it.
This is not new, its the way all proprietary software has been sold since
 the dawn of personal computing.

The law says that anyone who purchases a copy of software has the right to
load that copy onto a single computer and to make another copy for archival
purposes only or, in limited circumstances, for purposes only of
 maintenance or repair.

It is illegal to use that software on more than one computer or to make or
distribute copies of that software for any other purpose unless specific
permission has been obtained from the software publisher.

If you pirate software, you may face not only a civil suit for damages and
other relief, but criminal liability as well, including fines and jail terms.

We have Apple Representatives who sometimes read our mailing list as I've
been contacted offlist by them on occasion (to help a situation).

We would not want them to think we as a group condone breaking copyright laws!

 Hi Derek,

You should not leave software installed on your computer that you don't
 legally own.

If you are selling a machine to someone without the media to reinstall and
properly own that app, what happens if they have a crash or need to
 reinstall the software?
Do the right thing by making really sure the buyer understands exactly what
 they are getting.

Software is protected by federal copyright law.

The iMac should be completely erased and a clean installation of the OS
 (operating system).
We have given instructions on WAMUG how to do get a computer ready for sale
 only a few days ago.

It's fine to sell the computer but not the software. (unless you own it and

You're opening yourself up for big legal issues (and fines) by selling it (or

2012-06-19 Thread Daniel Kerr
Hi Derek

Sorry you feel that way. I wasn't lecturing, I was simply mentioning, and
providing info to cover all parties. (buyer and seller).
I've had clients who have had problems (and legal issues) with computers they
bought themselves through eBay etc purchases with software they believed they
owned, but didn't because It was preinstalled and they get didn't serials or
software Discs and went to upgrade or reinstall and had issues with the company
(Microsoft, Adobe etc).
Software companies are more then happy to fine consumers in this area.

That was my only reason for mentioning this. To cover all parties (buyer and
seller). At the end of day what people choose to do with the info is their
choice. It doesn't affect me either way.

But I certainly don't lecture, as anyone who knows me can attest to.

I've said my piece and don't have anything else to add to it.

Kind regards
Daniel

2012-06-19 Thread Ronda Brown
Hi People,

I was not going to respond to Derek's comments to me for bringing it to his
attention and WAMUG members that what he was anticipating doing was
contravening software copyright laws.

I'm am upset with his attitude towards me, and now towards Daniel.
I'm only the messenger here, doing what I do for WAMUG, giving informed and
correct information to the group.

Derek has put himself and WAMUG in a delicate position. He has again posted on
a public mailing list after being warned he was contravening copyright laws and
could cause repercussions for WAMUG.

As I mentioned previously Apple Reps troll our mailing list quite often. I
have had very good feedback from them as they do appreciate what we are doing
on our mailing list.
We can not appear as a group to condone software piracy of any kind.

Daniel and I put in a lot of time to support people on WAMUG mailing list, and
only ever give helpful advice and correct information in a very friendly and
professional manner.

Like Daniel I will not be having anything more to say on this matter. I have
done what was the correct and right thing to do and that was inform Derek and
members of the legalities.

Kind Regards,
Ronni

 Hi People,

I'm am upset with his attitude towards me, and now towards Daniel.
I'm only the messenger here, doing what I do for WAMUG, giving informed
and correct information to the group.

Derek has put himself and WAMUG in a delicate position. He has again
posted on a public mailing list after being warned he was contravening
copyright laws and could cause repercussions for WAMUG.

As I mentioned previously Apple Reps troll our mailing list quite often.
I have had very good feedback from them as they do appreciate what we are
 doing on our mailing list.
We can not appear as a group to condone software piracy of any kind.

Daniel and I put in a lot of time to support people on WAMUG mailing list,
and only ever give helpful advice and correct information in a very
 friendly and professional manner.

Like Daniel I will not be having anything more to say on this matter. I
have done what was the correct and right thing to do and that was inform
Derek and members of the legalities.

Hi Daniel,
Thanks for your enquiry the short answer is no.

Explanation:
The software discs are owned by a Wamug friend, so are not mine to sell, the
software is loaded on the machine it is free, to whoever buys the computer
it is all fully functional.

All I am asking is a fair price for the computer as I bought it with only the
stuff on it that is supplied by Apple.

The remote controller the battery charger + rechargeable batteries are also
free with the computer.

If you have any other questions please ask.
Thanks

If you have any other questions please ask.

Re: imac for sale

2012-06-18 Thread Ronda Brown
Hi Derek,

How I feel has nothing to do with this at all.

Software is never sold, Its always licensed! You get a copy of it and a license
to use it.
This is not new, its the way all proprietary software has been sold since the
dawn of personal computing.

The law says that anyone who purchases a copy of software has the right to
load that copy onto a single computer and to make another copy for archival
purposes only or, in limited circumstances, for purposes only of maintenance
or repair.

It is illegal to use that software on more than one computer or to make or
distribute copies of that software for any other purpose unless specific
permission has been obtained from the software publisher.

If you pirate software, you may face not only a civil suit for damages and
other relief, but criminal liability as well, including fines and jail terms.

We have Apple Representatives who sometimes read our mailing list as I've been
contacted offlist by them on occasion (to help a situation).

We would not want them to think we as a group condone breaking copyright laws!

Cheers,

Ronni

Yes I understand where you are coming from, I did see the instructions on

I was just thinking that someone could take advantage of the installed
software for as long as they were able to if when it no longer became
viable then they hadn't lost anything because they hadn't payed for it it
wasn't theirs in the first place, I would just be loaning it to them while
it's working, just as it was loaned to me, by the legal owner.

If anyone who buys it feels the same way you do, then surely they are free to
 uninstall it.

 Hi Derek,

You should not leave software installed on your computer that you don't
 legally own.

If you are selling a machine to someone without the media to reinstall and
properly own that app, what happens if they have a crash or need to reinstall
 the software?
Do the right thing by making really sure the buyer understands exactly what
 they are getting.

Software is protected by federal copyright law.

The iMac should be completely erased and a clean installation of the OS
 (operating system).
We have given instructions on WAMUG how to do get a computer ready for sale
 only a few days ago.

For Sale: MacBook Pro (Mid 2009) and older Software

2012-02-25 Thread Paul van der Mey
Hi all

I have for sale the following:

Computer 1:
Caroline has a new computer (MacBook Air) so we are selling her 13 MacBook
Pro. Has been used daily from new (September 2009) as her work computer and it
has been very reliable.
 - It is in good condition with some marks on the bottom (underneath) and a
slightly bent corner on the screen casing (does not affect the screen or use of
the computer).
 - It has had a keyboard cover from new so keyboard is in as new condition,
cover is included.
 - It has a decorative (girlie!) sticker on the outside, is still fitted and
can be removed, should leave no marks.
 - Comes with brand new (still in original packaging) original power adaptor.
 - Comes with packaging and disks as new (only opened the software disk package
to reformat to as new software).
Offers up to $700 considered.

Computer 2:
Titanium PowerBook G4 550 with carry bag, OSX 10.0 disk, OS9 disk. Worked when
last plugged in, haven't used it for a while. Probably have the original
packaging as well.

iPhone 3G:
Black 16GB, locked to Telstra with original packaging

Also on offer are, in original packaging unless stated:

 - System disks from a white MacBook, OS 10.4.10
 - Mac OSX Tiger (Family Pack) 10.4
 - Mac OSX Leopard (Family Pack) 10.5
 - Mac OSX Snow Leopard (Family Pack) 10.6
 - iLife '06
 - iLife '08
 - iLife '09 (up to date pack)
 - iWork '08
 - Aperture 2
 - Office:Mac 2004 Student and Teacher edition
 - Office:Mac 2008 Home Student edition
 - MYOB First Accounts V2.0.4 (on floppy disks, Accelerated for Power Macintosh
no less!) and Update to Version 3 (on CD)
 - Macromedia Studio MX V1.1 (Dreamweaver, Flash, Fireworks, Freehand)
 - MacWorld (Australian) magazines (assorted, have been subscribed for quite a
few years now...)
 - AV + USB cable for iPod Classic, Nano (video) and iPhone (i.e. works with
older iPods and original iPhone not 3G newer models)
 - PalmOne Zire 72 PDA not used for quite a while, paint is peeling off
 - Belkin Tunecast Auto has a crack in the dock adaptor, still works, no
packaging (This appears to be the closet on the Belkin site
http://www.belkin.com/au/IWCatProductPage.process?Product_Id=530116 actual
model# is F8Z182)
 - Genius wireless optical three button mouse, no packaging

We are keen to clear everything listed as we are preparing to shift.

Re: For Sale: Samsung Nexus S Android Smartphone

2012-02-18 Thread David Choy

Wow

Didn't realise i would cause so much of a stir.

I am of course a mac person, i have been on and off this list for the last
decade.

In the past wamug users have appreciated purchasing smartphones from mac savvy
users - just insurance that it will work with a mac and if it doesn't there is
someone to call. I remember supporting quite a few palm users through this
list. Perhaps it is more of an issue because now google is an enemy/compettitor
for apple? I listed an android phone here without complaints a year ago.

Anyway if the general opinion is that wamug people are now against these kinds
of posts i will refrain in future.
A shame for the open minded, as Rod says we don't all think iphone is the only
option and this is a cheap way to try.

 Hi Tony,

To get an ID photo in your emails you need to attach a photo to your personal
card in Address Book. To do that proceed as follows:

 1) If it's not already there, add a card to Address Book with your name and
 email address.
 2) From the system menu for Address Book, select Card Make This My Card
 3) Now to add a photo to the card click the Edit button at the bottom of your
 personal address card.
 4) Double click the square where the photo will appear and use the chooser
that pops up to select your preferred portrait shot.
 5) Click Done at the bottom of your address card.

 Cheers,
 Carlo

Hi GMUGgers

Healthy discussion.

I'm always ready to cast oil on troubled waters, then toss in a match. Here is
something I was discussing with my son Damien recently:

I was talking about this recently with a friend, and wondered
which of these you thought was better…

Of course, Rob, Mac users are welcome to use whatever phone they chose, but
please be thoughtful enough to respect the conditions of the WAMUG mailing list
and post your non Mac / iPhone queries to a different list.

Cheers,

All good folks :)

Don't worry Carlo...I get Rob all the time. Was just having a bit of fun :)

I'm just stuck in 2000 when the list membership was a lot bigger, and the rules
were a little more liberal. David, in that case throw the Nexus up on
Overclockers. At that price, it should sell quickly on there.

Back to your non-Apple rock, Rod ;)

Excellent. Thanks for that Neil.

I've been looking for the Toast 11 Pro in various shops but no one seemed to
have it. Have just ordered a physical DVD version online for heaps cheaper than
the basic Toast 11 in the stores.

Thanks again.

For Sale: Samsung Galaxy S 16GB

2010-12-19 Thread David Choy

Hi everyone,

I know it's not strictly mac but it works well with my macbook and mac mini ;-)

I have a Samsung Galaxy S for sale. It's 4 months old, unlocked
(originally Singtel branded), with all boxes, original manuals and
accessories. Originally bought for review, I now have 4 smartphones in
the house for 2 people so need to get rid of some!

It has been recently upgraded to Android 2.2 froyo and is in perfect condition.

I prefer to sell to someone local (Perth WA) as I don't want to have
to use a courier to ship it interstate (due to Aus post new laws,
lithium ion batteries can't be shipped)

Asking price $500 - RRP is at least $735 eg here:
http://www.mobileciti.com.au/samsung-galaxy-s-i9000-16gb-black-optus

Would make a great christmas present, can drop off after hours perth
metro area or local metro pickup.

Pictures here:
http://s233.photobucket.com/albums/ee142/drchoy/Samsung/

Please email me off list if interested

Thanks!

Hi everyone,

I have a Macbook Air for sale -
13 LCD
1.6Ghz Core 2 Duo
2GB RAM
80GB HD
illuminated keyboard,
web camera
recently (last month!) upgraded battery
mint condition - wrist and topcase clear matte protectors installed
balance of applecare warranty (to Feb 2011)
Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard and iLife '09 installed
Toffee Leather slip case included
Original box and DVDs
no longer needed as the wife wanted a smaller computer (!!)

Asking price $800 local pickup/delivery after hours in perth metro area. Local

I also have a macbook air DVD drive available for $50 for purchase with
computer only. The plastic over the cord is frayed but works fine. It was
purchased with the computer so applecare applies (if purchaser doesn't mind
waiting till I get to the Apple store I can get it replaced once stock is
available, or the purchaser has until feb 2011 to take it in to the apple store
for a free replacement)

For Sale - 2006 MacBook Pro 15

2010-11-14 Thread Jane Griffiths

Hi All

I have decided to sell my old MacBook Pro 15

Specifications:

2.16GHz Core Duo
2GB RAM
100GB HDD
256 VRAM
Superdrive

It has a clean install of Snow Leopard and I can install iLife '09 if required.
(does not include the Snow Leopard DVD or iLife'09 DVD)
The original documents, install discs (Tiger) and power supply are included.

I purchased the MacBook Pro in May 2006 from DigiLife along with AppleCare.
In March 2009 the logic board and DVD Superdrive were replaced under AppleCare
by MacWorx in Joondalup.

Everything is working perfectly, however the (original) battery is not holding
a full charge, it lasts about 2 hours.

The body casing, keyboard and screen are immaculate without any scratches that
I can find. There are no dead or bright pixels.
All ports work.
An STM sleeve is included.

As for price, I have used the websites:
http://www.mac2sell.net/
and
http://www.everymac.com/ which give guide prices of Au$830 and US$800-$1100
respectively.

I am asking around $790.

I've never sold any of my old tech gear before, so I hope I've included all the
required details!
If anyone is interested please email me.

Thanks
Jane

For Sale - Macbook Pro 15

2010-09-26 Thread Rob Findlay

With great regret I post this for sale. It's my wife's and she wants an iPad
and new iPhone. We can't afford both without selling something.
It's the previous model, core 2 duo 2.66 Ghz, 4 Gig Ram, 320 Gig Hard Drive.
Barely used and never outside the home so it's pretty much pristine. It was the
mid-range then, it's roughly equivalent to the base model now in spec which
goes for $2200.
Sell for $1750.

The first numerical character indicates the last digit of the year of

C02CKxxx.
Its first two letters determine its place of manufacture for example, so the C

Hmm... My iMac's S/N starts with W8742XX.
http://www.appleserialnumberinfo.com/Desktop/index.php says this means the
computer was also manufactured in China (W, not C) and that its YOM was indeed
2007 (3rd digit). The 42 indicates that it was manufactured in the 42nd week of
the year.

http://www.everymac.com/ultimate-mac-lookup/how-to-decipher-understand-apple-mac-serial-number-format.html
gives a much more detailed description of the structure of the Apple Serial
Number, and shows that the manufacturing location is represented by the first
two digits, so that in my case W8 actually represents Shanghai, China. The
third digit does indeed represent the final of the YOM.

Interestingly, the site also shows that there are any of seven possible
manufacturing location codes that can represent China.

[FOR SALE] Brand new HP Photosmart B109a (Printer/Scanner/Copier)

2010-04-26 Thread Neil Houghton

Hi All,

I have a brand new unopened HP Photosmart B109a colour printer for sale
which also scans, copies and works with Mac OS X 10.4, 10.5 10.6.

More info here:
http://store.apple.com/au/product/TX973X/A?fnode=MTY1NDA1MQmco=MTU0Njg2NzU

I am in Albany, in case anyone down here is interested, but I am heading up
to Perth tomorrow and will be in Perth over Thursday 29th to Sat 1 May - I
will bring the printer up with me - so if anyone is interested we could
arrange collection/delivery.

Since it is unused/unopened, I'm thinking $100 sounds reasonable (I think
this is what Chris S offered the same printer for, back in December) -
however, I could be open to reasonable offers, in this ballpark.

Cheers,

Neil
