Re: Which inkjet printer???

2011-05-16 Thread Derek Perry

For those who are interested,
You can get non-genuine Tonny cartridges from Teg computers for:
Brother, Canon, Epson, Hewlett Packard, Lexmark, Samsung, Sharp, Xerox
Dell.
I have a Canon MP990 cartridges cost me $7.80 each, I have been using
Tonny cartridges for many years on various printers without any problems,
they are recommended by PCUser magazine.

Subject: Which inkjet printer???

We need to get another colour inkjet printer and her indoors has narrowed
it down to 3 models.

I would be grateful for any feedback, comments, complaints, experiences with
the following:

1. HP Photosmart B110A Multi-function

2. HP Officejet 6500A Plus e-All in one Multi-function

3. Brother DCP-J715W Multi-function

One of our considerations is that all three will accept non-genuine
cartridges.

I'd check Whirlpool and Choice did a cost benefit analysis last
year(?). One of the major issues was the cost of cartridges with
Choice.

Re: Inkjet Printer

2009-07-03 Thread Kaye and Geoff

This is very reassuring news. The review said clearing a paper jam
was difficult and might shorten the life of the printer if it
occurred frequently. It also said placing the CD was not straight
forward - but I guess that comes with testing.

We found that working out how to get the CD in was a bit
non-intuitive, but once we sorted that out it was not difficult and
worked well. We do not have to do anything special to line up the
disk and we use the Mac software provided with the printer.

We bought an R290 mostly because of its ability to write on

I also have a photo R290 and have had no problems either with paper

per page printing is cheaper than my previous Canon and definitely

Re: Inkjet Printer

2009-07-03 Thread Mervyn Giuliana Bond

Our Brother telephone/fax/answering machine has not been sending
facsimiles at a good quality level. Printing a received fax is fine,
but recipients who receive quality faxes from other people receive
mine with a two inch, oops! 5.08 cm wide blank strip to the right of
centre. Cleaning doesn't seem to change that.

And so - I bought an Epson Stylus Office TX600FW. It won't print on
CDs so I will have to continue with my Avery Inkjet Media labels.

There does not seem to be a guten driver for the printer so the
dialogue window for the printer is the traditional Epson style so you
don't know what dpi level is being used at the various options.
However, to date the few scans and prints look very good.

Initially I could not use the provided scanner software and had to
access the scanner through Photoshop Elements. I contacted Epson
Support by phone and got a very helpful person who after checking set
up with me suggested I uninstall the Epson Scanner program, restart
the computer and then reinstall the program. I'm using wireless so
ran through the set up once more for the scanner after the reinstall
and it worked. Big thank you to Epson Support.

Two faxes sent to one of my sons, one BW one colour, and both gave
very good quality.

Thanks for all the comment on my first choice the R290, but Brother
and Canon seem to dominate in most stores I visited. I eventually
found Epson at Tandy and Dick Smith. Neither Tandy nor Dick Smith
had the R290 so I bought the TX600FW from Tandys.

One down side to the new acquisition is that I cannot use my Epson 35
mm Film Adapter for scanning slides on it so I will have to keep my
old Epson Perfection 1260 Photo scanner. The TX has card slots,
ethernet and usb ports only.

Inkjet Printer

2009-06-30 Thread Mervyn Giuliana Bond
My Epson Stylus C61 has given 7 years of good service but has reached
a point where it needs maintenance beyond my capabilities. Cleaning
of the heads and the rollers gets rid of vertical streaks for about
half a page of printing.

A discussion of colour laser printers occurred on the List in about
January 2008 but further exploration of that choice tells me that
quality photos can not be produced for a machine under $1000 where as
inkjets can.

Hi Merv

I've supplied Epson printers for my clients (and use Epson myself) and I've
always been very happy with them. I find their colour output is great, and
they generally always work with no problems, and last fairly well. (On
average).
I've a few clients with the R290 and they've never had any problems with
them, otherwise I'm sure I would have heard about it.
The new Epson range is very well priced.
Personally, I don't think you can go wrong with Epson. But that's my own
opinion. :o)

Hope that helps.
