Re: Slow Printing Problem
Hi Dianna, i had a similar problem, i'm not sure if it was HP or Canon. Have you tried reinstalling the printer/checked you have the latest printer drivers? Re: Slow Printing Problem
Yvonne Thanks for the suggestion, the answer is I tried deleting and reinstalling with no effect. The printer is installed as Rendevous but I tried IP and Appletalk, both say they are printing but nothing happens and there is no estimate of how much of the job is done. On Appletalk the message toggles between Starting Job, Wait and Processing Job. We have used the same driver from the start and I don't see why it should become corrupted on both computers. Afternoon Due to the age of the machine I would if possible complete a printer and JetDirect firmware upgrade. As someone else said if you've updated your computer you maybe using a new version of Postscript which is taking longer for the printer to decipher. The HP website has a huge range of support any issues just reply back here, more than willing to provide assistance. I seem to have done lots of this in the last two months at work!! Bob Howells wrote: Perhaps this has slowed up after an OSX update ? Also, what changes have been made perhaps in your security ? Is Firewall on , have suitable openings been created to allow the traffic to pass ? Thanks for the suggestions Bob. The Firewall is OFF. I did update to Tiger but did not like it and went back to Panther. I re-booted in Tiger and got the same result. I am fairly sure it is a printer fault. When I try to print the whole document (60K / 2 Pages) it quickly does 22% then it goes to 25% and sticks there for a couple of minutes then gradually sends the rest. Same on both computers, in Panther or Tiger. If I send one page it quickly does 42% then sticks on 52% for ages. Same on both computers. When I put it in Word 5.1a the file was only 8K and both pages printed in 1.5 minutes. I shall ring the serviceman! Thanks again to Yvonee Bob. Re: Slow Printing Problem
I don't think updates are the problem. There have been no Panther upgrades for ages. I had a flirtation with Tiger for a few weeks but Graham has always used Panther and we have not had any new software. How do I know what version of Postscript I am using? I am a bit nervous about firmware upgrades. I did not set the printer up originally, the guy I bought from did it and he is not the type to explain what he did so I could do it again! Any advice would be greatly appreciated, in words of few syllables suitable for the elderly, please. Hi Diana, we use many 8150s with both 10.4 and 10.5 OS over ethernet. We have not experienced any slow down in printing. Looking on the HP site however there are several pages that talk about slowdowns with the HPs in Mac environments. But not necessarily with the 8150. Re: Slow Printing Problem
Hi Diane One question on your printer problem, have you changed the paper thickness option recently?I had to print something out on to very thick paper and changed the option on my Brother laser printer to reflect that and I then forgot to change it back to normal paper. The printer ran very slowly which made me realise something was wrong and once I changed it back it ran at its usual speed. I downloaded the driver and reinstalled. The date on the files changed from 23 Aug 2003 to 14 Nov 2008 but no improvement in speed. There was no firmware update that I could find. I have checked the paper setting as suggested by Wendy, it is on Plain. I did manage to increase the speed by selecting 300 dpi, it printed the first page at 76% spooled in ca 7.5 minutes, then at 12 minutes it got stuck on 99% and stayed there until at 18 minutes I got the message no document printing. It was correct the second page never appeared. This made me wonder whether there was something wrong with the cable so I used the Ethernet cable from the iMac for the printer and it printed in high definition in 2.5 min, not great but workable! I should remember the advice first make sure that it is plugged in and turned on!
