Barney's Sidewalk

Re: Don't know if there are any Neil Young fans on this list, but thought
I'd pass on that at a concert in Moline, he made a reference to our own
Barney!

Neil Young fan, right cheer!

I've posted on this before, but as I said, Neil is a BIG Mayberry fan, and
off that same album, Greendale (where Barney almost became sheriff), in a
song called Grandpa's Interview, Neil sings the following:

it ain't an honour to be on tv
and it ain't a duty either
the only good thing about tv
is shows like 'leave it to beaver'

shows with love and affection
like mama used to say
a little mayberry livin'
can go a long way

Sang it, Neil!

On a recent appearance on Letterman, Neil wore an Aunt Bee tee shirt.
Spread the word, Neil!

By the way, run, don't walk, to your nearest cinema, to see his new film
Neil Young ~ Heart of Gold. It's goood!

Re: Can anyone think of more connections between TAGS and MASH?!

Yes, and the closest ones at that: M*A*S*H was regularly written by Jim
Fritzell and Everett Greenbaum, and it, like TAGS, was shot using the one
camera technique.

TAGS and MASH

2006-04-07 Thread Terry Taylor

We were watching The Gypsy episode a couple of days ago, with Jamie
Farr. Jamie, as we all know, was a long time star on MASH, as Corporal
Klinger. That got to thinking of other connections between two of my
very favorite shows. Another couple are William Christopher, another
regular on MASH. (Father Mulcahy). He played the new, young Doctor on
one episode of TAGS, and I think he also played an IRS agent when Aunt
Bee won her prizes in Hollywood. And there was of course Ron Howard,
who was on one episode of MASH, playing a soldier who had lied about his
age in order to join the Army.
Can anyone think of more connections between TAGS and MASH?!

Fred Pearlman

The name Theodore J. Flicker comes to mind. I think he is a director.

Not to be confused with a famous bald-headed director.

***Can anyone think of more connections between TAGS and MASH?!***

How can you forget the time George Goober Lindsey appeared on M*A*S*H? Or
the time Hope Summers (Clara Edwards) played a nurse who stood up for Henry
Blake at a court martial and referred to the military brass as a bunch of
high-priced bellhops?

A lot of behind the scenes connections as well, with writers (Jim Fritzell and
Everett Greenbaum) and directors (Gene Reynolds). And oh yes, both shows spent
their network runs on CBS, where both came on Monday nights (I think even in
the same time slot).

Goober and Permanent Girl

2006-04-07 Thread BCunnin107
At the risk of oversimplifying (or getting obtuse) the reason Goober didn't
have a regular girl is because that is the way the character was written!

If he had a regular girl, we might not have had the episode Goober and the
Art of Love, the Computer dating episode, or the episode where Goober and
Gomer take over for Andy and Barney at the dance to entertain the fungirls

It seems his lack of having a girl was a big part of the show. In addition
to the above, he was often used as the back up to go to the movies when Ange
or Barn couldn't go with their girls etc... Several times you can remember
him walking along the street late at night, popping into the courthouse
wondering if anyone was there or if anybody wanted to do something...
Seems he
wouldn't be the same..

Lydia vs Flora

2006-04-07 Thread Kim
No offense, but I believe it was Lydia that stepped out on Goober first. But
then again, Flora flirted with Andy first. Hmmm, no wonder ol Goober went the
computer dating route. Too bad Barney wasn't in town to arrange one of those
Bachelor type things the way he did for Andy. Who all besides Lydia and Flora
would be right for Goober? Maybe Skippy? They might have had to write to
Europe and bring in some out-of-towners.

Has she ever attended any Mayberry events? Perhaps she'd be a big draw.

I have to agree about Goober never having a permanent girlfriend. Had they
shot the show now, that episode with the computer date could've set up a
long-running plot line of possibilities, since romance is so much a part of
modern-day sitcoms. The different backgrounds bit could've set up a lot of
great
situations. Then again, he and Flora might have made a cute couple, too.

Nettie vs. Lydia

2006-04-07 Thread bcq145
Well, it seems like lately all I'm hearing is how great Goober is with Nettie.
I guess
you all have forgotten Goober's real love--ME ME ME ME ME ME ME ME ME ME ME

Yes, I may have my issues, car sickness to be sure, pretzels laying heavy on my
chest, bad tires, not able to take the sun without getting the herpes (but
that's
a common problem according to Barney), not being able to dance, bad
back, can only eat a small amount of chocolates, not liking most musicals
instruments, my family not enjoying their work, hating to chit-chat, being
opposed to all forms of gambling, etc. But other
than that I'm a swell person. A real go-getter. Much better for Goober than
that flirty Nettie.

Just ask Goober.

Lydia, That's the couch I was telling you about.
