I just heard a story on the radio about a survey which revealed the Top 5 TV moms. Not necessarily in order, they were June Cleaver, Carol Brady, Marian Cunningham, Harriett Nelson and Lucy Riccardo. Got me to wondering, if Aunt Bee or Andy were even in the running. I seem to recall Barney once saying something about Andy being mother and father to Opie. There was also the reference to Helen Crump as Ernest T's Mother Figure. What other references to mothers do some of you more trained noticers recall? Trivia
Glad to see everything is now A-OK in Mayberry. We used to do a lot of trivia on this board some years back, but this group is too smart to miss much anymore. So, every time I think I have a hard question, someone comes up with it, but I'll give it a try with this one, and I do think it's hard! This concerns a scene shot on the TAGS 40 acre lot in Culver City. Those of you who have seen pictures of the lot may have noticed what looks like a freeway bordering the lot on the left. Actually, according to the maps I've seen, it is W. Jefferson Blvd. So the question is, in what scene/episode can you see a car driving down this street (off lot) in the background? If you blink, you'll miss it. Clues: It would only be shot on a part of the lot that is close to W. Jefferson Blvd. In this scene behind Gomer's head in the background, there appears to be a palm tree, unlikely to be seen in the northern part of N. Mayberry Mothers
Ben's post about mothers represented in Mayberry made me think of two of my favorite mother references. The first one being Fluffy who, despite being in full view of her kittens, climbed out on to the roof. I love how Andy says, you know how you feel seeing your mother on the roof. Then there was Olive who was a widow with 4 children and the beneficiary of one of Barney's generous impulses. Let's go ahead and let her keep it. I just know she put that quarter to good use. Glad to be back on the digest. A big thanks to Floyd to making sure my wires were big enough. Someone who lives in NC posted a few days ago about Andy Griffith calling his house in support of a candidate for NC governor. I'm curious. Was Andy's call live or was it pre-recorded? Did you talk with him or did he just leave a message? That's extremely rare to get a call from THE MAN, so I want to hear all the juicy details.
