Dry counties

2010-08-10 Thread Daniel Santos

I was watching Aunt Bee and the Lecturer last night, when I picked up on
something. Aunt Bee offered everyone Elderberry Wine. She stated It's Andy's
Recipe A) Wasn't Mayberry a dry county? 2) Wouldn't making wine be akin to
moonshining? C) I didn't think Aunt Bee would allow wine in the
houseafterall she won't even allow rumcake on account of a brother she had.
Also in that same episode she cooked chicken in wine. She would only let
Opie have one piece. Just a few observations.
P.S. I love her swinger act at the end of the episode.

Happy to report that Mayberry is depicted in the current issue of Reminisce
magazine with someone's squad car and a brief note. Also, A Simpler Time now
carries several of our tin signs and they are colorfully shown on their
website!

I know this has been mentioned b4 but let's give it another go for the
newcomers.
Bonnie and Clyde, the movie from 1967 or 68 starring Warren Beatty and Faye
Dunaway also had several TAGS characters in it.
Cousin Virgil found what he could dohe could work on cars and drive
getaway cars for B C.
Dub Taylor was Virgil's father
And the sheriff who was after them was 'Brisco Darling' Denver Pyle. He
did not wear bib overhauls in this one but had a deppity's uniform.
There could have been others but those are the 3 who come to mind. Great
movie but once again it showed crime does not pay. I once had the privilege
of viewing the car B C were killed in and it looked like a strainer it
had so many holes in it! Seems like it was about a '37 Ford if not mistaken.
Only been between 55 and 60 years ago I saw it so my memory isn't too
clear on details.

Re: Names mentioned before they were seen

David Quinn wrote: For some reason Goober has been on my mind lately. I got
to thinking today that Goober's name was mentioned twice on Andy before he was
ever shown. In January 63 in the episode Man In A Hurry and again in October
63 in the episode Sermon For Today. Then Goober first appeared in April 1964
in The Fun Girls. I know that there were a lot of people mentioned on Andy who
never appeared, but does anyone know of another character on Andy whose name
was mentioned before they appeared? I mean several episodes previously, not a
few minutes previously.

One that comes right to mind is Johhny Paul Jason whose name was mentioned
several times before he was actually seen. Good question and food for thought,
thanks!

Mayberry Squad Car in Reminisce

2010-08-10 Thread Ken Anderson
This morning a guy stopped by my house and gave me a copy of the article and
picture about the Mayberry Squad car in Reminisce Magazine. He knew I am a
big Mayberry fan. Seeing that car is in Wisconsin I am going to have to
track the owner down and see if we can connect some time.

Andy in real life.

2010-08-10 Thread info
I also have heard that Andy himself can be rather hard to get along with in
real life. Kind of a curmudgeon. But, maybe that is what makes him a good
actor. After all, it is his business. Maybe he has to make business decisions
and has that kind of reputation. I have always heard that he and Francis (Aunt
Bee) did not hit it off very well. But, on screen, they played their parts so
well. That's Hollywood.
And also, after reading Don Knott's book (several times now), I realize that
most actors fret about where their next job is. Don was constantly worried
that he would never work again. What is an endearing character to us, is a job
to an actor. It must be a stressful life.
Don't that just clutch ya?

Bonnie And Clyde's Automobile

2010-08-10 Thread DAVID QUINN

There was a posting here yesterday about Clyde Barrow's death car. Since
Bonnie and Clyde were killed May 23, 1934, of course the car could not have
been a 1937. Actually the automobile was a 1934 Ford V-8. Clyde stole the
automobile from Jessie Warren of Topeka, Kansas. After the car was filled full
of holes, and Bonnie and Clyde were removed, the automobile was returned to
Jessie Warren. I bet the Warren family has wished a thousand times that they
had kept the car, but they sold it to a traveling carnavil for $3,000. The
next time it was sold it was bought by a casino owner in Primm Nevada for
$250,000. A million dollars probably would not touch it today. At this very
minute, it is on display at the casino in Verdi, Nevada, West of Reno on the
California border. Viewing is free, but you are no longer allowed to sit in
the car or touch the car.

Clyde Barrow, but his girlfriend is not named Bonnie.

Here is a real good website if you are interested.

Cast member in my guilty pleasure

2010-08-10 Thread Maurine Taylor
You can see Rance Howard acting his heart out in Ghost Town the Movie 2007,
by Dean Teaster.  [Not to be confused with the theatrical movie with Ricky
Gervais, this gem went straight to video.] It was filmed in Maggie Valley, NC,
at Ghost Town in the Sky, the tourist attraction.  It features many Ghost Town
regulars, including guys whose jobs are to get 'shot' and fall off roofs for
the pleasure of visiting tourists.  But, there, acting his heart out as if he
was in a real movie, is Rance Howard.  As the sheriff, he carries the burden of
advancing the story line.  Too bad, they didn't let him start earlier.  If they
had, I wouldn't have had to watch it twice to figure out what was going on!
You have to admire a fella who can turn in a fine performance under such
circumstances.  Used copies are available on Amazon beginning at 88 cents.

Welcome to the WBMUTBB Digest! So very good to see new folks showing up,
joining in, and adding to the population of this fine cyber-Mayberry!!
Don't forget to call the man if your freezer goes on the fritz... it would be
a shame if you ended up hauling raw beef in a coaster wagon up and down the
street attracting dogs and flies for failing to do so.
