Opie cooks!
Hi, gang! I too, was pleased to see TV Land begin the series over. I got to thinking that in the first episode, The New Housekeeper, when Andy gets up, Opie has already cooked breakfast. The 45 minute eggs still crack me upno pun intended! But what is a six (or five?) year old doing using the stove with no supervision? Had he ever used it before? Did Rose teach him? Nowadays they would fry you on the 6 o'clock news is you let a child play with a stove! Maybe those were the good old days.but I'm just thankful Opie didn't burn himself or catch the kitchen on fire, with those eggs boiling dry three times! The Name Crump
I do believe Crump is a very important name in Kansas. Why in Kansas they even made apple crump pie. And the people their never get grumpy. Instead they get crumpy. People there never get down in the dumps. They get down in the crumps. Why they don't even have bumps in the road. Yep, you guessed it. They have crumps in the road. And the kids don't play with jump ropes. They play with crump ropes. And when they are finished playing crump rope they go to the city crump and look for pop bottles. And you know what. When they fall down they don't land on their rumps. Yep, they land on their crumps. Yes sir, that name Crump has a lot of class in Kansas. And the kids love to read about Snow White and Bashful, Doc, Dopey, Happy, Sleepy, Sneezy, and of course Crumpy. Well that's it for today folks. I just ate some toast, so now I have to sweep up the crumps off the floor. Kenneth G. Visting Two Chairs No Waiting brings back memories of Small town barber shop.
I had a chance last night to catch up on Allan’s Two Chairs No Waiting Podcasts. I was about three sessions behind, so spending an hour there, at “Two Chairs no Waiting” reminded me of spending an hour at the small town Barbershop when I was growing up..which LIKE “Two Chairs” was also a very fun place to be. As those memories become more vivid, a few things came to mind that are perhaps things we can not necessarily see/experience at Floyd’s Barbershop. 1) The sight of hair on the floor between sweepings. 2) The smell of hot shaving cream, and various hair tonics. 3) The sound of a straight razor being sharpened on a long leather strap. 4) The sound of the hydraulics as the barber pumps a chair lift to get the patron to the right height. 5) The sound of a radio or TV droning background noise. 6) The ever-present Coke (or pop machine) and th stack of empty bottle crates. (My Barber used to let me empty out the bottle caps for whatever game Coca cola had going—I felt like a rich man) 7) Fishing displays—My barber actually had to explain fly fishing to me, when I asked how these funny looking strings tied like bugs served as bait…and he persuaded me to stick with rubber worms and real worms (no tater salad) rather that use teh flies for bait. 8) The actual magazines (which we know Floyd had enough to swing two chairs) Popular Mechanics, Hot Rod, Field and Stream, Highlights (where someone usually circled the hidden pictures already). 9) The sound of an electric razor just inches from your ear. Along with the things we did see in Floyd’s Tonsorial Parlor.. 1) National Geographic 2) A Row of non-descript chairs filled with Gossiping Men 3) That poster of the various haircuts 4) Mirrors and tables with tonics, and Witch hazels 5) A second barber chair, usually empty 6) A container of that liquid stuff they sanitize combs in 7) The candy striped barber pole (but no chairs outside) The small town barbershop was a place that young boys enjoyed, and heard lots of good stories, just like “TCNW” The Untrained Voice---in for a trim P.S. my barber was so considerate, he once dealt with a bug in my hair without embarrassing me. He just told my Pop, another small businessman. Like Opie, I had to increase the bath frequency. http://mayberry.com/podcasts/ ___ WBMUTBB mailing list WBMUTBB@wbmutbb.com http://www.mayberry.com/tagsrwc/wbmutbb/
Turkey Hunting
Does anyone remember anything besides crows and bears being hunted in Mayberry? I thought there might have been more mention of this but have drawn a complete blank. Also, are there any turkey hunters on here that would be interested in working with me on a Travelin' Call? If so just drop me a line and I will contact you. Thanks. Re: Ruth McDevitt
Thanks for the corrections. I must have looked at the wrong name, and I couldn't remember Mrs. Pendleton's name at all so I looked in the show episode guide for who it was and that is what they said. Anyway, I did see her on Bewitched lol. Thanks again, this old brain don't work quite the way it used to Ha! Ha! Said she was born in 1917 so I thought the age worked, oh well, not the first or last mistake I will ever make. :) Larry ___ WBMUTBB mailing list WBMUTBB@wbmutbb.com http://www.mayberry.com/tagsrwc/wbmutbb/

Central Standard Time, wbmutbb-requ...@wbmutbb.com writes: The actress in that BEWITCHED episode, who played Mrs. Pendleton in Helen's Past and Emmett's Anniversary was Ruth McDevitt. I specifically remember Ruth being a regular on The Night Stalker, she was one of Carl Kolchak's fellow newswriters.
