RE: My Pilgrimage
Hey Jason: Have a good time at Meyers Lake. I was there a few months ago and it is a great time. Regarding Allans' detailed directions, the one thing that has changed is there is now a street sign for Franklin Canyon which makes it a little easier to find. Make sure you check out the little house that is at one end of the lake near the dam. It is the building used as the game wardens office in "Andy and Helen Have Their Day" in Season 5-Disc 2. It's still there and looks exactly as it does in the episode. I was able to locate the exact spot where Mr. McBeevee's (Season 3-Disc 1)truck was parked on the road circling the lake. Official verification was made by markings on the guard rail and manhole cover in the road. I also located the spot on the concrete wall that the Carter and Wakefield kids jump over in "A Feud is A Feud", Season 1-Disc 2. Keep in mind the water level is considerably lower today than it was 45 years ago. They had to lower it for fear the damn would break. So when you stand at the shore of the lake the shore that was seen in the series will be quite a bit up and behind you. When you get back let us know all about it. Bob was very nice and a great person to talk with - he could expound on a variety of subjects. His death several years ago came out of the blue. I too love the Andy Griffith show. I remember watching it when I was very young. I have always watched the credits of TV shows and films. (I'm the last person sitting there in the theatre, remembering things from the credits like Mo Henry, the editor on this film, also edited such and such...) I got very excited one day when I saw the last name McQuain in the AGS credits. Our last name is not very common and I went running to my parents after the credits finished rolling so I could tell them about my discovery. They were unfazed, and much to my amazement, they then told me I was related to this "Bob McQuain" whos name I had just seen. I was over the moon. (I had not met Bob yet at that time.) Needless to say, I watched the show credits religiously from then on. Come to think of it, that may be the whole reason I watch credits to this day! FYI: Don Knotts is also from my home state, West Virginia. Don grew up in Morgantown. They have a boulevard named after him up there. Nice talking with you. Kind regards. -B. Re:Who Is That in the Picture?
I captured the frame that has the photo you mention and I can't make out who they might be. It almost looks like the cover of a magazine. The man on the left (see photo) looks a little like Gomer. An interesting side note about this episode. The actress who played Hannah Carter in the credits is listed as Tammy Windsor. Her birth name was Roberta Lynn Kupcinet. Roberta was murdered less than 3 years after this episode was filmed on Thanksgiving day in 1963. She was 22 years old. Her killer was never caught. Ironically her romantic interest at the time of her death was Andrew Prine who later appeared in an episode of Matlock. I have posted two photos regarding the above. To reply to all the Glenn Ford posts, yes there really was a movie titled, "G-Men". It was made in 1935. Glenn Ford was not in the movie, James Cagney was the lead actor. However, there is a Mayberry connection and maybe this had something to do with why the writers of that script mentioned it. Mary Treen who appeared in three TAGS episodes had a bit part in "G-Men". Mary, who passed away in 1989 was in, - Those Gossipin' Men (1961) as Clara Lindsey - Ellie for Council (1960) as Sam's Wife - The New Housekeeper (1960) as Rose Mary also went on to appear in one episode of Gomer Pyle and once in Happy Days.
