I have always wondered about the back door, too. In Mr McBeevee when Opie says his horse Blackie is tied out back, there are a set of steps at the back door. Later, when Aunt Bee has a freezer full of meat (Call the man!), there is a back porch. Is the porch supposed to be at the back of the house? Later, when they moved the kitchen door in the color shows, I never knew why they would do that, as far as consistency in the show. If anyone gets the RFD-TV channel, they are running tributes to George Lindsey between shows. Just watched Hee Haw last nite (every Sun. at 8 pm) and George was in the show. We just started getting RFD-TV over the winter with a new Dish Network pkg. A great channel for farming, reruns of Roy Rogers, old tractors, Hee Haw, horse training, gospel and old time country music. I love it. I quit watching network TV a long time ago. In the book Mayberry 101, I'll always remember this story that George Lindsey tells. He said he had a hard time knowing how to play the part of Goober. He asked Andy Griffith about it. Andy told George that Goober was the type of guy that would go into the diner and say This place has good salt. From then on, he knew how to play Goober. Also, he loved to watch Howard McNear act and would hang around just to see Howard play Floyd. We are enjoying seeing Hee Haw reruns on RFD-TV on the Dish Network. Every Sunday nite at 8 pm. George is in almost every show. So much fun to watch. They don't make TV shows like TAGS or Hee Haw anymore. Good clean fun. Speed, speed, speed, that's all you ever think about. Sometimes it's funny, sometimes it's sad. I guess what I took from it was that an actor's life can be very stressful waiting for the phone to ring and the next job. No guaranteed employment. Someone mentioned Fonzie and how Happy Days shows declined in later yrs. Didn't the term jump the shark start with a Happy Days episode? Jump the Shark refers to a show where Fonzie is water skiing and jumps over a shark. The term got started from that show and now refers to any show that starts declining after awhile. When the writers run out of material and start writing unbelievable scripts or something that does not fit in. I think of Aunt Bee flying a plane. My all-time favorite for an appearance in one episode has to be George Spence as Frank, cousin Gloria's fiance'. He said one line, Hi, Gloria, and is always at Mayberry Days. I just love it that he was in two small scenes (in Andy's living room and driving away in a convertible) and yet he is a favorite at Mayberry Days every year. Don't know if any of you get the car fixing column in the newspaper, Click and Clack, but they take questions on car maintenence and problems. In Sunday's paper a man wrote in and asked if he could easily disassemble a car for a play he was in. He said they need to have a car on the stage for each performance but then had to take it apart inbetween shows because of another play on the same stage. Anyway, he was advised not to do that. Reading about the disappearing courthouse door, it reminds me of the kitchen back door in the Taylor House.
