I love when Andy says "That guy singing on TV, jumping up and down like
somebody's beating his dog." Or something like that... Please correct me, but
he has to be referring to the one and only Elvis. 

And then of course there's George Raft (Barney and the Fun Girls) and Glen Ford
(Opie and Andy and Andy and Barney) and all his G Men.

Does Calvin Coolidge or Mark Twain count?

Mayberry stars in Missouri Saturday

2014-04-22 Thread Paul Mulik
Hi folks,

Marshfield, Missouri has an event this coming weekend called the Cherry Blossom
Festival. On Saturday morning there's a panel called Memories of Mayberry, and
I have been asked to serve as moderator. I told them up front that while I do
know a lot about The Andy Griffith Show, I don't know the first thing about
being a moderator, so we'll see how it goes. It might be a gas at that.

Anyway, the guests this year are Morgan Brittany, who is best known for her
long-running role on Dallas, but as a child star she appeared on many shows of
the 1960s including one episode of TAGS, Opie's First Love. In those days she
was known as Suzanne Cupito.

The other guest this year is Maggie Peterson, who of course played Charlene
Darling-Wash. They usually try to get stars who have a connection to Missouri;
guests from past years have included Rodney Dillard and Betty Lynn (both of
whom are originally from Missouri).

The main focus will be an audience QA session, so if anybody has any questions
they'd like to ask either Morgan or Maggie, speak right up and I'll try to work
those in.

If anybody is within driving distance of Marshfield, MO, please consider coming
to this event. There are all sorts of other activities too, such as a dinner
with special guest Laura Bush and her two daughters, and a celebration of the
75th anniversary of Gone with the Wind featuring people involved with the
making of the film.

Five and Six Pointed Stars

2013-03-16 Thread Ken Anderson
I have a theory about the points on the stars, but it is rather technical
so I hope you can follow me. To the best of my knowledge a five pointed
star has five points. Right. And a six pointed star has six points. So I
think that probably the reason a six pointed star has six points and a five
pointed star has five points is that there is one extra point on a six
pointed start. Hope that can clear things up.

1990 appearance of TAGs Guest stars

2011-07-18 Thread jgrit1
I recently came across on Netflix the movie “Return to Green Acres”. (sound
familiar?). It was made in 1990 and features TAGS Veterans (and Green Acres
regulars) Alvy Moore (the salesman who helped Aunt Bee with Evie Joy) Frank
Cady (Prisoner and New Photographer) and Mary Grace Canfield (Gomer’s date,
Mary Grace) It was good to see them performing that late in their careers.
Like Return to Mayberry they had lost a couple of cast members..Mr. and Mrs.
Ziffle..however their pig, Arnold was still there, and they had a new daughter.
I wondered if Arnold was really the same pig..but he sure sounded like his old
self. I wonder if that’s just the actor in the pig? Anyway it was a decent
reunion show.

thanks for the theories on Andy waking up grumpy when Opie practiced piano.

I don't buy into the whole Andy was grumpier in general in color I think we
just miss his smiles from pulling pranks on Barney. the lack of that laughing
and grinning makes him seem not as happy. He could be grumpy in black and
white when the story called for it. (Andy's vacation...tifts with Peggy or

Famous Guest Stars on Andy

2009-09-15 Thread DAVID QUINN

Sam was asking who was the most famous guest star on Andy. He nominated Ruta
Lee, and I agree she was pretty famous. However, my nomination would be Gail
Davis who played Karen Moore, the perfect female. Ruta Lee never did have a
regular show and was only a guest star on several shows. However, Gail Davis
was our heroine, Annie Oakley for 3 years in the 50's. I can still remember
watching the show and being in (puppy) love with Annie Oakley. When Ruta Lee
came on Andy I said I am sure I have seen that face before, however when Gail
Davis came on I said Hey there is Annie Oakley. Frankly I was surprised that
Andy did recognize her before she showed him up in the shooting contest.

Orville Hendricks - The butter and egg man. Gail Davis, now there was one
perfect female I could sure be a chicken coop casanova with. (Don't tell
Martha).

Of all the guest stars who went on to big fame after their TAGS appearance,
I'd say Jack Nicholson was the biggest. But, I was wondering: who was the
biggest guest star at the time of their appearing? (For instance, the biggest
name to show up on The Beverly Hillbillies would be John Wayne; on The
Dick Van Dyke Show, Danny Thomas.)

Now, assuming we don't count the pilot episode ('cause it was on another
show), in which case it'd be Danny Thomas again, my guess would be Ruta Lee.
Who do you think was the biggest name guest star at the time of airing?

 Sam

Current stars in TAGS roles?

2009-07-14 Thread Janet Anderson
Instead of wishing we could see more of a certain character on TAGS which
aint gonna happen because there aint no more
Lets think of some stars that would be good in the TAGS roles if they were to
make a big screen movie like they did with The Beverly Hillbillies and The
Brady Bunch, The Addams Family Dukes of Hazzard and Dennis The Menace. I think
I might like to see Meg Ryan in a Thelma Lou role and maybe Demi moore as helen
Ok thats a start put your bucket on and give it a? 'Thank'

Vic, I'm sure some folks will really enjoy coming up with some names for you,
but I just can't envision anyone else playing Thelma Lou but Betty Lynn, or
anyone playing Helen other than Aneta Corsaut. Or, perhaps I should say that I
don't WANT to envision anyone else in those roles. I hope you don't take this
the wrong way, but to imagine ANYone else playing any of our beloved regulars
on TAGS is sort of a downer for me!

I'm like this with everything, though -- I have no interest in seeing a modern
remake of an old movie or TV show. It's never as good, IMHO. In fact, the
preponderance of remakes in the last several years just tells me that Hollywood
today is lacking in creativity and originality. About the only remakes I like
are the remakes Alfred Hitchcock did in the '50's of his own movies from the
'30's. Also, 1949's In the Good Old Summertime was a good remake of 1940's
The Shop Around the Corner. And, no, I wasn't around when they were made. I
just appreciate the shows from the golden era of Hollywood and the golden age
of TV (which includes TAGS). Thankfully, with DVD technology, we can continue
to enjoy the original greats!

1971 calls to 3 Mayberry Co-stars

2008-07-15 Thread tom . kssl
An interesting human side to 3 Mayberry celebrities.how can I forget Sept 3
1971. And 51. 00 phonebill calling long distance Conn to Calif 13 character
actors from radio film and tv.I compiled 1000 autograph lettes photos but I'm
greedy.in those days character actors had their names in the
directories.letters and photos weren't enough.among those listed for anyone to
call wa 3 co stars of our favorite show. Anita Corsaut. Burt Mustin and Frances
Bavier in Raleigh NC .all 3 had a 20 minute call each and it gave me great
insight how human and kind and appreciative they were.in short and I had by the
way recorded it on my wollensak taperecorder.Anita told me she loved Andy
Griffith calling him a pro gracious and on time.she loved her 5 yrs on it.she
laughed in embarrassement when I dare ask her about her role in The Blob. 1958
with Steve Mcqueen. Tom you know I was ashamed being. In that film I had to
leave the country.I still can't live it down.oh Anita was such a grateful I
took time to call and talk about her career. Burt Mustin in his 90s the years
we wrote and spoke by phone was floored anyone knew his name but he told me how
he didn't get into show buisness until he was in his 60s.he liked his bit part
in Desperate :Hours 1955 with Bogart and March and the retakes he did over
unlocking a door for Fredrick March.he loved his role on Andy Griffith calling
him a pro and asked me the name of the episode where Barney tossed a tomatoe at
him as deputy sheriff and Otis and was it Floyd ?sorry I forgot the name of the
episode but Burt said the crew cracked up reshooting the scene .Otis got hit
with the tomatoe.we kept in touch til he died at 94 in 1977.he admitted with
pride people will always know him as Gus the fireman on Leave it to
Beaver.lastly.Frances Bavier was every inch in real life what she was as Aunt
Bea.she just completed her role on Mayberry RFD and whlle she had strong views
on her relationship with the cast she said the Pickle Story was her
favorite.she enjoyed her years on the show but my goodness the minute you
called her you knew you were talking to Aunt Bea. O my 3rd call to her she said
Excuse me Tom.give me a moment.I have a housefull of cats and its time to feed
them but they're all over the house.was I impressed.she was so real. And the
genuine article.she was Aunt Bea trust me.it was my good friend radio tv
announcer Harry von Zell who tipped me off how to call her.and she was right
there folks in the white pages.that's just 3 examples of chatting by phone with
celebrities.what an experience but my mother wasn't happy with the next month
phone bill. $51.00 that's it folks .Tom Kessel [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Dancing with the Stars

2008-04-24 Thread Kim Heiden
The other night I was watching the Results show for Dancing with the Stars.
One celebrity and her dancing partner have been rumored to be dating. They
had a rough round the night before and were very sad. Also they wouldn't
confirm or deny they were an item. Then on the Results show they found out
they were still in the competition. Then when they were shown he had
lipstick kiss marks all over his face. Sounds familiar doesn it? Now if
he'd just wear a salt pepper suit for his next dance, I'll phone in and
vote for them.

Stars on the Patrol Car and Uniform

I wanted to ask and see if any of the trained noticers out there may know the
answer to something I haven't been able to figure out. The star on the patrol

Mayberry stars' mementoes

2007-06-09 Thread jlj9675
I was fortunate to purchase Frances Bavier's leather needle case at a
Mayberry event several years ago. It came with a financial document and I
have both in a framed shadow box in my guest room, which is all Mayberry.
But I would have to say that my most awesome Mayberry moment was when Don
Knotts called my home. He was in Orlando to appear at MGM and some college
function. I faxed a letter to his hotel, inviting him to our Opie meeting
and offering my assistance in any capacity. That he took the time to
actually phone to decline and thank me just bowled me over. When we went to
MGM the next day I thanked him for the call and asked him to do a Nip-it for
everyone. Another time when he was at MGM, two of our chapter members and
myself got to have a private visit with him backstage and he autographed our
books. He was a wonderful, kind and giving man, not at all like Barney -
that's the actor of the man!!!

Not Howard McNear--Guest Stars--Guest stars

2006-01-12 Thread GRITTON, JOE A (SBC-OPS)
I was watching the episode last night where Andy and Barney catch on
the brothers robbing Wally's. In one scene Andy and Barney both talk
to a gentleman in front of the courthouse sitting on a bench. He has
a hat on and is carving a piece of wood. He shows it to Andy and Andy

replies, good...tell me what it is and I'll give you fifty cents.
Barney then acknowledges the gentleman and says something to effect of

, nice work.

The man appears to be Howard McNear or Floyd himself. Once this episode
taped close to his stroke? Perhaps Howard could not speak at that time.
Does anyone know?

I just saw that scene within the last week, (and I don't think it was in
the Filling Station Robbery Episode --trained noticer help?) and I'm
pretty sure it's not Howard McNear.
Also I don't believe they ever used an established main character as a
background actor.

--
I was wondering if anyone knows how many people actually played 2 or
more roles on the show. I am at a loss for this gentleman's name but he
also played Gomer Pyle USMC. He played the man who sold the vegetables
on the side of the road and Barney ran off. And played on a few other
episodes of TAGS.Are there many other people that played duel roles?
Thanks, Frank Johnson

Frank, my fellow Hoosier,

I want you to go to this website. its actually on the www.Mayberry.com
site on the right hand side where it says Cast member/Episode Database

Type names like Allan Melvin, Bob McQuain and Mary Lansing. You type
the first name in one blank and the last name in another blank, hit the
search button and see what you find out? There are many many dual
roles (triple etc.) but if I gave you all of them you would miss the fun
of discovery.
