[wdvltalk] RE: Expertise

2002-10-06 Thread Joseph Harris

Ali,

You could always start one with some of the money from those people who want
to put $30m, $50m or $100m in your bank account. There seem to be a lot
of them about!

I don't know... can it top that overseas investors are interested in
buying or investing in my excellent company? And they were so eager,
they sent me two copies of the notice. And here I never realized I had a
 company to invest in.

Maybe the email was meant for my cat

Change the meta description tag on the flash sniffer page to what you
want it to say?

...

Too simple? ;o)

Hi everyone,
it's great to be back! actually I would have preferred to have stayed on

I have a clients site that is listed on loads of search engines but the
description comes up as seaching for flash plug-in (em cause there is
a
flash sniffer page...) Is there any way this can be changed for
something a
bit more meaningful?

TIA

[wdvltalk] Re: text editing in photoshop6

2002-10-06 Thread Franni Vincent

Jan's right - it's putting white spots because you haven't set the Matte
option to the background colour the transparent gif'll be on in the
finished web pageyou'll find matte in one of the options when you do
the Save for Web option, OK? It defaults to white, hence the white spots.
Click on the box, the usual options for changing colours appear. You can
select the colour as the hex you've got as the background for your web page
there you go, no more spots before the eyes...

Franni

Hi ines,
It shouldn't do that. Pre Photoshop, I was using a program for
transparent gifs, it suggested I have the same background color
as the page, and then when it's finished, you won't have any
white or other color spots. If I use the same image with other
colored backgrounds, I just edit the image and change backgrounds.
Hope this helps.

 hello!

can someone tell me why text produced and edited in photoshop looks so
 bad?
for instance, when i save text with a transparent background and then put
the image on a colored html document, it has white spots around the
 letters.
the other issue is that the words look so untidy, even though i tried out
all the option - be it anti-aliased, aliased, strong and what have you...
it looks even better in ms word...

can someone give me an idea what to do to have nice and clear text images
 with photoshop6?

 many thanks!!

[wdvltalk] Re: SE description

2002-10-06 Thread Cyberspace Publishing

In addition to the META description tag mentioned earlier, you could
also add a 'Search Engine Only' type of description directly after
the BODY tag for those engines that ignore META tags. It would only
be seen by search engines and spiders and would be invisible in
most browsers - not even showing up in a 'View Source'.

To do this, you need to be able to use Extended SSI calls (probably
only available on *nix boxes running Apache.) Just add this code
immediately after the BODY tag on your pages:

!--# if expr=\$HTTP_USER_AGENT\ != /Mozilla|MSIE|Opera|Lynx|WebTV|NCSA
Mosaic/ --
pThis Description is Seen Only By Search Engines and Spiders - change
to whatever description applies to the page./p
!--#endif --

Your pages will, most likely, need to have the .shtml extension (check
with your host.)

HTH,
Tom

[wdvltalk] Server sniffing

2002-10-06 Thread Jay Paterson

I used to know of a web site where I could find out what server software a particular
site was hosted on (by providing the URL).
Example: If I typed in www.microsoft.com the page would return Windows 2000, IIS 5,
local time etc.
I've since forgotten the URL - anyone out there know it?

Cheers
Jay
