Janet replied:
When using a style declaration, there is a specific order in which the
attributes have to be listed, e.g. top, right, bottom, left. You could
try listing the attributes in this order and see if it validates.

Stephen replied:
Get rid of all the leftmargin, etc. and specify a unit for the CSS. All
you need is:
  body{ margin: 0px;}
if it is in a linked (prefferred) or embedded style sheet.

or: if its inline (avoid)

Peter replied:
I suggest to use stylesheets (CSS) instead of this kind on definition.
Have a look at http://www.w3schools.com in the section Learn CSS.

Tim sez:
I'll try these out. I forgot to mention that this must support Netscape
4.7x, if that makes a difference...seems that I remember reading
somewhere that NS4.7x didn't handle the CSS margins stuff properly.
I've slowly been weeding out all the inline CSS and moving it to the
stylesheet - almost there. If anyone knows that one of these methods
will definitely work in NS4.7 please let me know.

Thanks for the tips!

[wdvltalk] Looking for shopping cart "plug-in"

2003-01-21 Thread Dave Sebaste
Hi Friends,

A couple years ago I implemented a CGI-based shopping cart system on my
retail site. I've recently become aware this is preventing proper search
engine indexing, since all my hyperlinks are passed through the CGI script,
which spiders can't traverse.

I've been looking for an alternate solution that is inexpensive (or free),
effective, and reasonably easy to integrate into an existing site.

Any suggestions or recommendations out there?

TIA,

Dave

[wdvltalk] DWMX MySQL problems on OSX

2003-01-21 Thread edwin
Here's a brief description of my problem:

Powerbook G4 512Mb RAM
Hard Drive partitioned into 3 parts - OSX, SYS9, DATA
External Hard Drive Firewire 60Gb

To try to solve the DWMX problem I have...

Just reinstalled OSX10.2 CLEAN again - wiped partition
Upgraded to 10.23
Installed clean DWMX 6.0
Upgraded DWMX to 6.1
Switched on Apache
Enabled CGI, SSI, PHP4
Using pre-installed PHP module - version 4.1.2
Downloaded and installed MySQL 3.23.53 from www.entropy.ch
Downloaded and installed phpMyAdmin 2.3.3pl1
Using phpMyAdmin built fresh database - added tables and data from backup
Created user for database, set up user privileges
Fired up DWMX for first time
Opened new dynamic page and setup local site only - leave remote for now
Went to create 'MySQL Connection' and entered:
Host 127.0.0.1, User 'root'(MySQL), password - 'root password'(MySQL)
Select a database - and here's the problem -
DWMX tries to find database - you see 'testing database connection'
dialogue
Then comes back with - 'An unidentified error occurred'

This is the same recurring problem I have had for over a week now.

Will anyone help??

Nice design, just state what Country this is in on the frontpage. For
the life of me, I couldn't figure it out... :)

jac,

I agree with the others; nice site. Clean, pleasant and attractive to
visit. Particularly like your active letters, their calm and variety.
Fast linking. Also like the arrows identifying where you are; neat.

the buts:

The print was small for my taste, particularly for such a long line
length.

[wdvltalk] Re: td headers

2003-01-21 Thread Trusz, Andrew
Aural rendering of tables is discussed in the CSS2 specs. Try:
http://www.w3.org/TR/REC-CSS2/tables.html. It's in the Introduction section.

The specs call for the use of captions to describe table structures.
Attributes are defined which specify how are spoken (once, always).
It's a pretty clear document and the rest of the chapter discusses css table
construction.

i *think* you want the 'caption' tag on the table/table headers.

have a look at the w3c accessibility pages. should be links to audio
readers from there. i *think* jaws is a common one. also, what about
pages like the royal national institute for the blinds campaign for good
web design might help:
   http://www.rnib.org.uk/digital/welcome.htm

there's also the caption tag on tables and table headers:
   http://www.w3.org/TR/WCAG10/wai-pageauth.html#tech-table-summaries

but don't forget that tables are read side to side so they might not
sound how you'd expect!
