If you haven't done that yet please try that.

That's done the trick, thanks!!!

[libreoffice-website] AskLO signin option - none I use

2013-03-15 Thread Kracked_P_P---webmaster

OK my earlier question might have been caused since I did not sign in to
the system.

As a first time user, I see that I am required to use social media
systems like Facebook. I 99.9% never use social media.

So I would never use one of those for it.

I also do not use a Google or Yahoo account either.

I deal with my own domain[s] email address, like
webmas...@krackedpress.com for 90% of all LO stuff.

So how do someone who avoids the social media systems and avoids using
other domain email accounts get signed in or signed up?

Remember, not everyone uses social media or wants to deal with the
privacy issues of dealing with other email systems that you have no
ownership to. I currently have over a dozen emailaccount on domains I
own, so it is a waste of time for me to have to go to an online service
like Google Mail browser based email accounts. Everyemail account Iuse
can be access by Thunderbird. The last time I hear, Google and Yahoo
required a paid account to do that. I am paying enough for my domains
and the email system I use.

Also, I almost never look in on the social media, maybe once every 4 or
6 months if required by someone who does not like to use
anycommunication system other than Facebook or Twitter.

the particular problem with AskBot was that the e-mail subscription is
not based on double opt-in. However, this is a legal requirement in
Germany and many other countries. Otherwise we would be subject to an
expensive cease and desist letter.

As a workaround, we only enabled signup via OpenID, until AskBot
improves this, or we can develop our own authentication mechanism.

I agree this is tedious and annoying, however, from a legal POV, we -
sadly - have no other choice at the moment.

[libreoffice-website] testing the new download site

2013-03-15 Thread Florian Effenberger

Hi,

I've managed successfully to install MirrorBrain, our download
redirector, with our current database on a new server. To see if it
performs as expected, I'd love to give it a try, before making the final
switch. The rsync feeding for mirrors is still missing from the new
server anyways, so both will run for a while in parallel.

One thing I'd like to test in particular is IPv6, since that still isn't
reliably supported in the GeoIP location, and I want to see the impact,
to decide whether I should disable IPv6 for the download site temporarily.

However, the current log parsing is tedious and I really would not like
to mess up with it. I know that both Norbert and Kendy are working on
new log parsers. Are those already ready, and could we combine log files
from two servers with these, given I have to switch back and forth
between the machines under some circumstances? Plus, do your log parsers
work reliably with IPv6?

Thanks,
Florian

One option if you don't have or want an account with any of the

[libreoffice-website] Youtube libreoffice channel

2013-03-15 Thread Drew Jensen
Howdy,

I would like to ask if anyone would like to work on the libreoffice channel
at youtube.

The current registration at youtube is tied to a personal email account,
there is no way to share admin privileges that I can see.

1 - I would like to change, if the folks this channel (I've asked before,
but thouhght I would one more time), that email address to a tdf email
address.

2 - I would like to see the admin shared between a couple of people, from
what I know that means 2 or 3 sharing logon credentials. ( I don't have to
be one of those people, if folks prefer)

Presently I have very limited access to an internet gateway so won't see
any reply to this email for a few days, but will get back to anyone early
part of next week.

Thanks very much,

Fair enough.

I just wonder how many people would think that this is not a good idea and
think there is some sort of discrimination involved against people who
just want to use a normal email, like they use on the LO email lists.

I don't think there's any intentional discrimination here. Based on my
understanding of the situation, TDF has a very small Infrastructure/IT
team for the size of the demands heaped upon it. If we'd had to roll
our own double-opt-in system for Askbot, it might have taken months
more to get the Ask site up and running, so I support the decision to
go with OpenID if that was the fastest option to get something up and
running.

I'll look into the feasibility of enabling local accounts for the Ask
site. It's possible that this feature may be available in the latest
version of Askbot, or that the upstream devs could help to cook
something up for us, but I think the first priority is to get us
running the latest version of the Askbot
(https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=61098) and then go from
there.

  I use
the same email for the lists, the wiki work, and even the CMS work [when I
used to use it]. I did not have to use a social media service or set up a
 ID server for those.

Would you consider using an OpenID provider that isn't bundling the
service with email, a social network, or other services? There are
some dedicated OpenID providers listed here:
https://openid.net/get-an-openid/

Florian

I know that there was no real discrimination here, but I know many
people in my building alone that would call it that and would be so
against LO for doing that. So I had to bring that touchy subject.
How many business users would want to use a social media sign in for
their business communications? I know few local ones that really think
it is a good idea.

There needs to be some good way to get in without a social media or
Google type of account.

I do not use social media, Google mail, Yahoo mail, and the
otherslisted. There are at least20 people, at my last count, in my
building that hate social media and the listed mail systems for the
problems with security that they keep seeing in the news sources. I
just do not have the time to deal with all of these.

SO,
would there be any good way for someone with just an email account to
get signed up with the Ask LO system.

2013-03-15 Thread Kracked_P_P---webmaster

Now that I created a Google account to login, but when I try to upload
an image. . .

first it tells me that the .jpg file is not and image or bad,

then the .gif image tried uploads, maybe, or just causes an
internal error.

Hi Kracked_P_P,

Question filed on the Ask site on January 21st. Bug filed January 31st
as fdo#60108 - ASKLIBREOFFICE: Uploading avatar in Ask LibreOffice
fails (NEW)
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=60108

---

Regarding Bugs for the Ask Site:

I have suggested since the end of January that we punt on this
Avatar-upload bug and most/all of our other Ask bugs until after we
get the Ask site upgraded to a modern release:
Bug 61098 - ASKLIBREOFFICE: Upgrade askbot software to the latest
release (0.7.48)
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=61098

We're currently running Askbot 0.7.43, released on May 14th, 2012.

On February 26th I pinged Infrastructure and asked for an update on
the schedule to upgrade the Ask site. Florian asked me to wait 3-4
weeks before pinging Alex/Infrastructure again (that will mean March
19th or 26th).

I'm sorry that these upgrades and bugfixes are taking so long, but
I'll pass along any information I get to the rest of you. I'll try to
give everyone a status update on March 26/27th. As I mentioned on
February 26th on the bug report, I'm happy to help out here, I just
need access to a repo with our local changes.

Thanks,
--R
