If we'd had to roll our own double-opt-in system for Askbot, it might have taken months more to get the Ask site up and running, so I support the decision to go with OpenID if that was the fastest option to get something up and running.
very well explained - indeed, that was the problem. Per se, AskBot did not provide the required double opt-in, so we decided for social networks only in order to roll it out.
