[Bug 24052] New: Insert link dialog cannot find pages in another variant

2010-06-20 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=24052

Summary: Insert link dialog cannot find pages in another
variant
 Product: MediaWiki extensions
 Version: any
 Platform: All
OS/Version: All
Status: NEW
 Severity: enhancement
 Priority: Normal
Component: UsabilityInitiative
AssignedTo: tpars...@wikimedia.org
ReportedBy: liang...@gmail.com
CC: roan.katt...@gmail.com, ngau...@wikimedia.org,
amil...@wikimedia.org

Assume A and a are different variants of the same character in a wiki with
language converter.

In the 'insert link' dialog (of WikiEditor), if a page 'XA' exists but I input
'Xa' in the dialog, it says 'the page does not exist'. However, in the rendered
page, it points to 'XA' correctly.

--- Comment #1 from Liangent liang...@gmail.com 2010-06-20 06:09:55 UTC ---
In my own client code, I usually wrap 'Xa' in , and send it to
api.php?action=parseprop=links, then check the 'exists' attribute in the
response.

[Bug 24053] New: dewiki: exclamation marks on watchlist increased

2010-06-20 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=24053

Summary: dewiki: exclamation marks on watchlist increased
 Product: MediaWiki
 Version: unspecified
 Platform: All
OS/Version: All
Status: NEW
 Severity: enhancement
 Priority: Normal
Component: General/Unknown
AssignedTo: wikibugs-l@lists.wikimedia.org
ReportedBy: bugrepor...@to.mabomuja.de

On dewiki patrol and autopatrol rights were removed from most groups. Now on
watchlist the red exclamation mark is shown on nearly every new page. e.g. if
an editor is creating a subpage on is user namespace and so on.

So the solution would be to disable this patrol feature because even patrol
buttons are hidden on dewiki or readd patrol/autopatrol to some usergroups.

This is a known bug that only affects anonymous users. This happened because
there was a 10-minute gap between me deploying the new Vector code and
deploying the new CSS that goes with it: in the interim, broken pages like
these were generated and were being cached in Squid. Apparently some of them
are still around; purging those pages (with action=purge) should fix it.

Marking as FIXED since the bug cause was fixed 10 minutes after it was
introduced, you're seeing the last traces of it in Squid.

I've found 2 strings that need correction in Spanish.
It's in the file SMW_Messages.php

'Hechos relativos a à' - 'Hechos relativos a'

'Esta propiedad en una propiedad' - 'Esta propiedad es una propiedad'

I'm only showing the first part of the string, but that's enough for you to
locate them and have them verified by your Spanish translator.

Thanks!

[Bug 23611] Arrow down doesn't put highlighted suggestion text in search box in SimpleSearch

2010-06-20 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=23611

--- Comment #18 from Ichiro veryfurry...@gmail.com 2010-06-20 14:19:42 UTC ---
Cool, please let me know when it's available for testing.

From the diff, it looks like you opted for adding code instead of removing it,
which is probably for a good reason, but I'd just like to make sure that you
understand my proposed fix.

Current code with your fix (my interpretation): when ENTER is hit, if there is
a selection, work out whether it was achieved through mouse or keyboard. If via
mouse, ignore selection. If via keyboard, fill in the text with the selection
and search it.

My proposed fix (equivalent behaviour): when ENTER is hit, ignore any
suggestion selection and always search for whatever is currently in the text
box. If the selection was done via keyboard, the text box will already contain
the correct string.

Less code = less potential bugs, but it's probably me who is missing
something...

Thanks

[Bug 23949] Problem with searching while mouse cursor is below the search input

2010-06-20 Thread bugzilla-daemon

--- Comment #14 from Ningauble ningau...@earthlink.net 2010-06-20 14:46:57

(In reply to comment #9)
This is closed, and _mostly_ worksforme because inadvertent hovering is no
longer such a problem. However, I would like to clarify:

...highlighted by mouse hovering event does not steal keyboard focus, so
yes, it is possible (but how would it help our problem?)
Ok, steal keyboard focus overstates the case, it only steals enterkey
behavior. Standard behavior in a combo textbox/listbox is that typing in the
textbox and selection with arrow keys are committed by Enter or Tab, and mouse
selection is committed by Left-Click. Distinguishing highlighted by mouse
hovering as a recognizable state would help by enabling the program to avoid
the error of misinterpreting Enter as a mouse action.

One could say that Wikipedia has always had only one I'm feeling lucky
button, and now we are trying to introduce a Search button as well.
One could say that, but it would not be true. In the several years I used
Wikipedia prior to the Usability Initiative rollout there have always been
_two_ buttons: I'm feeling lucky (Go) and Show list of search results
(Search), and this is still the case for projects that continue to use the
Monobook skin by default.

[Bug 24052] Insert link dialog cannot find pages in another variant

--- Comment #5 from Roan Kattouw roan.katt...@gmail.com 2010-06-20 16:15:45

Right, so it looks like we need two things here:

1) We need the API's title normalization code to normalize Xa to XA, assuming
XA is the canonical variant and Xa is an alias (is this correct?) so the
existence check succeeds.

2) We need Extension:TitleKey to take variants into account. Currently, typing
WORLD CUP into the link dialog on enwiki will suggest World Cup and a
number of other results: Extension:TitleKey makes this case-insensitive, but we
need it to make it variant-insensitive as well.

I didn't check whether this happens if a non-ajax preview is used.
It does, and this is deliberate.

In Preview or Changes mode, we can't tell if you have made any changes before
hitting Preview or Changes, so we err on the side of caution and assume you
have.

In our usability test in October, we noticed that multiple subjects would
change things in the edit box, hit Preview, then not notice that the edit box
was below the preview (because the preview was multiple screenfuls long) and
click the Edit button, causing them to go to a fresh edit page and lose their
changes. EditWarning didn't fire because they hadn't changed anything since the
page loaded. For this reason, we added some logic that makes sure EditWarning
always fires on preview/changes pages, even if it hasn't detected any changes.

Yes, this potentially yields false positives, but 1) clicking preview/changes
without having made any changes is kinda pointless and 2) we already have code
for AJAXifying the preview and changes views, making this issue moot.

1. There's no variant is 'canonical'. Pointing variant links to correct pages
is by converting a link to its all possible variants, and check whether any
page with a variant as title exists one by one. Titles stored in database also
have different variants -- it depends on the creator.

2. Case converting rules are fixed, but variant converting rules (zh rules. sr,
tg ones are fixed) are not -- because it's difficult to guarantee a set of
rules never makes mistakes. See zh:Wikipedia:字词转换请求或候选. People propose new
rules (or fix old rules), and zh:User:PhiLiP may add them to MediaWiki at a

OK, that sounds kinda like a nightmare.

Marking the bug as filed as INVALID since this is not a bug in the insert link
dialog: it's the two API modules it's using that return incomplete data, which
in turn is caused by the components they rely on not being variant-aware
enough. The two issues identified in this discussion should be filed as
separate bugs against core and Extension:TitleKey. Note that the issues you
mentioned may make them somewhat tricky to fix.

That would pretty much double the size of the edit page HTML for large
articles, for a very small gain. Also, the dialog says MAY be lost (not WILL be
lost; if you use e.g. Firefox, you also don't lose your changes immediately
upon navigating away), the use case for this bug is marginal and pretty much
pointless, and this'll be moot when preview and changes use AJAX, which is not
far away.

Including a hash of the page content is not expensive, true, but JavaScript has

(In reply to comment #18)
Visible revisions have checkboxes and a del/undel selected revisions for
multiple revisions in an action.

Can Special:Undelete have a similar button added? It already has the
checkboxes.

A del/undel selected revisions button would be useful (eg to remove a
RevDelete redaction on multiple deleted revisions), or to prevent the data
being visible if deletion is reversed (eg page deletion is undone)

These are not directly related to this bug; please file (or find, I suspect
this may have been raised before) separate bugs for them.

(In reply to comment #20)
I theorized that if such a revision were selective undeleted and then
redeleted, the selctive undeletion assigns a rev_id, so once redeleted this
wouldn't be a problem, providing a quick workaround. In other words:

You could check whether this definitely occurs with an old revision of the
sandbox or something. I can imagine it actually making even more of a mess
than that if ar_rev_id is null.

[Bug 21279] Regular deletion of revisions deleted with rev_deleted breaks links in log entries

2010-06-20 Thread bugzilla-daemon

--- Comment #22 from FT2 ft2.w...@gmail.com 2010-06-20 21:36:43 UTC ---
(In reply to comment #21)

1/ I'm using this bug as a tracking bug for the few last issues Werdna needs to
check, to put the RevDelete log links issues to bed at this point. It sounds
like he'll be tackling the last few together so this makes it easier for him to
check them off, rather than opening several bugs for matters he will address in
common. of course any tagged as wontfix or later may need extra bugs
opened, but I think on this one, let's see how it goes before creating
paperwork that may never be needed.

2/ I've tested the bug at #20 and tested revDelete on old deleted revisions of
this kind. It appears to fail persistently. However it also fails on deleted
revisions that do have an ar_rev_id. So at the moment it's impossible to tell
whether in fact that's the problem and (by itself) old deleted revisions with
ar_rev_id = null are actually not a big problem.

So I've noted this as an outstanding issue, and asked Werdna, when he's fixed
RevDelete on deleted revisions that are later undeleted, to go back and recheck
this one and see if that fixes this point as well. It's easier that way than
waiting, then filing a new bug afterwards.

[Bug 21279] Regular deletion of revisions deleted with rev_deleted breaks links in log entries

2010-06-20 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=21279

--- Comment #23 from Happy-melon happy-me...@live.com 2010-06-20 21:43:37 UTC
---
(In reply to comment #22)
(In reply to comment #21)

1/ I'm using this bug as a tracking bug for the few last issues Werdna needs
to
check, to put the RevDelete log links issues to bed at this point.

The button to mass-revdel deleted revisions is missing issue is not related
to this RevDelete log links is borked bug, nor is it something which will be
fixed as a side-effect. They're totally unconnected, and it just clutters
things to lump them together.

Fair point :D

So I've noted this as an outstanding issue, and asked Werdna, when he's fixed
RevDelete on deleted revisions that are later undeleted, to go back and
recheck
this one and see if that fixes this point as well. It's easier that way than
waiting, then filing a new bug afterwards.

I'm not saying that log links might also break in *this* way or log links
also break in *that* way should be separate bugs; it's certainly reasonable to
keep them here. I'm saying that *totally separate issues* should be kept,
well, separate... :D

I've been able to replicate the same issue with DynamicPageList as of MediaWiki
1.17alpha (http://toolserver.org/~vvv/mw-nightly/ Dumped on: 12:13, 20 June
2010 Subversion revision: r68310). I downloaded both the core code and
extensions.

The third party DynamicPageList in MediaWiki SVN had been working quite well
under MediaWiki 1.16 and today is now broken on upgrade to 1.17 alpha:

DynamicPageList (Versão 1.8.6)A highly flexible report generator for
MediaWikis - manual and examples: see [1] Gero Scholz

I've changed http://notici.as and other sites on the same servers to use the
less-powerful intersection version until a proper fix is available but
otherwise haven't tried changing anything in the configuration files from what
was a properly-working MW 1.16 configuration.

This is mainly fixed by r68342. Problems that still remain include tag
extensions (but that's bug 22555), and any inconsistencies between
Parser::guessSectionNameFromWikiText and Parser::formatHeadings. The specific
case outlined in the bug summary has now been fixed, so I'm marking it as
closed - feel free to open further bugs if you stumble across inconsistencies.

Only the most recent entry (problem 2 in the original post) from
Wikimediasverige.wordpress.com is shown on the Scandinavian
branch of Wikimedia Planet,
http://gmq.planet.wikimedia.org/index.sv.html

We had another kind of problem on another blog aggregator, which was
solved by adding /feed/atom/ to the URL instead of just /feed/
Maybe that is worth trying?

[Bug 18431] Inconsistent anchor creation breaks links

As of r68343:

Umherirrender's problems are fixed.

anchorencode works the same as the redirect from edit-section to article.
Both using Parser::guessSectionNameFromWikiText.

/* autocomments */ that we auto-generate are also the same, except that
non-linking and are removed. /* comments */ that are provided by the user
do not have the HTML stripped from them, but all and are removed. I think
the best way forward here is to try and pass user-generated /* comments */
through Parser::stripSectionName on save, and remove the and removal from
Linker::formatAutocomments

#links are still just wrong, they are urldecoded() before handling, and do
not have whitespace normalised (nor do they have HTML or links stripped, but
they can't contain those anyway).

I think the way forward is to add the whitespace normalization to
Title::escapeFragmentForURL, not so sure about stopping the urldecode() of the
anchor - that could also be done. It may cause problems for interwiki's that
aren't wikis.

Also, the dialog says MAY be lost (not WILL be
lost; if you use e.g. Firefox, you also don't lose your changes immediately
upon navigating away),

The meaning of 'may' is missing in its Chinese translation:
离开这个页面会令您遗失之前的所有更改。?
