To be exact, I reverted vandalism on this page:
http://meta.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?title=User_talk:Pathoschildaction=history
As I auto-watch edited pages on Meta I got an e-mail today reading:

Subject: Meta page User talk:Pathoschild has been created by Bsadowski1
The Meta page User talk:Pathoschild has been created on 23 September 2010
 by Bsadowski1, see http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/User_talk:Pathoschild
 for the current revision.

 This is a new page.

I remember this happening with another log action aswell a few weeks ago, I
can't remember which one though.

[Bug 25257] New: specifying font size in pixels (px) diminishes usability

#Sizing fonts and sizing by font metrics

The only way the WWW author has to know the what size of type is well readable
by a user is the default size selected by the user. When a font is displayed at
a size smaller than the user's default font size, that creates a usability and
accessibility problem. This is more widespread a problem than only affecting
those who's eyesight is so poor that they count as disabled.

Screen resolution, in the sense of dots per inch (DPI), will determine how much
space on the display a glyph occupies, making measurements in pixels (px) an
especially ineffective unit to use in specifying typeface size.

Keep in mind that data URLs are not universally supported: of the browsers
supported by WikiEditor, they break in IE7.

If data-URL were only used in personal user scripts this wouldn't be a problem.
If a user uses IE7 and puts some code in his vector.js that inserts a toolbar
button with a data-URL, it's his own fault.

Hi Yaron.

Still doesn't work with SF 2.0 unfortunately. I think it's possibly down to
clashing javascript engines. The Nouveau skin is a cut down version of the Halo
skin.

I guess all the major SMW parties need to get round the table and work out how
to avoid these clashes. Perhaps a set of guidelines could be drawn up as well
for other skin developers.

Thanks
Neill.

It looks like the paraminfo errors is caused because before PARAM_REQUIRED,
required parameter validations were done in the execute() method. Now they're
done in the validate parameter methods. When using ApiParaminfo, the execute()
method is not called, but the validate parameter methods are. I'm pretty sure
this is the problem.

Hi!

After the Sequence: namespace was enabled on Commons, some pages starting
with Sequence: are not accessible anymore.

As an example, Sequence:Wikijúnior:Alfabeto dos animais appears in my
contributions,
http://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?title=Special:Contributions/HeldergeovanewithJS=MediaWiki:Gadget-rightsfilter.jslifilterexpr=alfabeto

but is not shown when accessed directly:
http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Sequence:Wikij%C3%BAnior:Alfabeto_dos_animais

I was told it is needed to run some cleanup script at Wikimedia Commons, but
I'm not sure what is it...

So if someone could do that, I would appreciate ;-)

All versions of SQLite starting from 3.5.3 released in November 2007 are built
with FTS3 by default. I don't know when PHP started using it, but it seems to
have happened long ago. So either your PHP is outdated, or it was explicitly
built without FTS3 by smart packagers or server admins.

Hi.

I've got SMW 1.16, SMW 1.5.2, SF 2.0 and I'm using the Halo skin.

autocomplete on fields is not working. If I downgrade to SF 1.9.1 then it
works.
Looks like a javascript clash again.

This is getting quite serious now. A number of SF features no longer work with
skins that employ javascript.

Well, I wouldn't say it's all skins that use Javascript - just jQuery, at most.
In any case, I don't think there's anything that can be done about the problem
in SF - it would have to be fixed in the Halo skin(s). Since Halo/SMW+ uses a
different bug tracking system than this one, I can't re-assign it to them -
instead, I'm marking this bug as invalid, and I urge you to create a bug
ticket for it on their system, if you haven't done that already.

I recall this had to do with the fact that we were wrapping the textarea,
 which
 essentially removes/adds it.

No, that's not the same issue, as this bug occurs with WikiEditor disabled as
well.

What's happening is that something, somewhere is either setting an onunload,
which will disable bfcache no matter what, or setting an unbeforeunload without
cleaning up after themselves properly (which is what EditWarning used to do
before I fixed it).

This may have been caused by LiquidThreads calling .noConflict(). Andrew fixed

The localized description is not added by the Image Annotator. It is added by
 Template:Information:

I should have known better than use catch-all word like localized. I agree
the Localized/Internationalized descriptions (in the language of the user)
provided by Information, Book or Artwork templates will still be there, but
descriptions linked to a specific locations in the image (localized?) are
gone. Those descriptions were used to annotate a each face in a group image
(replacing 5th head, with hat, in the 6th row kind of descriptions), each
building in a panorama, a signature or other inscription in a painting. A lot
of effort was put into annotating images to provide more information to the
final user. For example every known person in the famous
http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Stroop_Report_-_Warsaw_Ghetto_Uprising_06b.jpg
was identified.

--- Comment #1 from Michael Dale d...@ucsc.edu 2010-09-23 17:36:16 UTC ---
I think this bug is related to adding the maxage headers to the request in
response to bug 25238 and the 'subtitles missing' being cached for an hour. I
have tested milliseconds and they appear to work fine. I have reduced the squid
cache to 5 min instead of 1 hour in r73609. Since the action=parse request is
for parsing a title it should pull from the parser cache, but we include
smaxage headers so that when a video is featured on the 'michael jackson page
when he dies' everyone does have to hit the Apaches caches which are relatively
resource intensive.

In an ideal world the api would understand how to set long squid expires on
'action=parse' for page titles and then purge the squids as the page got
updated ( just like we do for normal http page viewing )

[Bug 25269] New: Add support to embed commons videos in wikimedia blogs

Presently there is now way for us to 'embed' videos from commons in our blog
posts. We don't simply want to reference the video files since it can include
community translated subtitles. To address this mwEmbed includes a share
button:
http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Nice_People_MEDIUM.ogv?withJS=MediaWiki:MwEmbed.js

But the object tag it produces is striped by wordpress on saving the blog
post.

It would be fairly trival to either
a) add a handler to our config:
http://codex.wordpress.org/Function_Reference/wp_embed_register_handler
or
b) Create a wordpress 'commons embed' plug-in

If this is something we want to do, and will be installed once I create it, I
will make it happen.

[Bug 25270] New: Personal review queue in CodeReview

I think CodeReview should have per-user review queues. If other folks agree
with this plan, I'll hack at this at the Hack-A-Ton (could use a hand, though).

Basically my vision of this is that I'd set a few rules (path-based, probably)
based on which new revs would automatically be added to my queue. I would also
be able to add and remove individual revisions from/to my queue (in bulk, using
the existing checkboxes). It should be possible to filter my queue by status so
I can e.g. isolate fixme's. Revisions I mark as good (OK, deferred or verified)
should be removed from my queue automatically. Revisions others marked as good
should be hidden from the queue view by default and maybe be automatically
removed from it too (not sure about the latter).

I'm personally responsible for reviewing a bunch of different, mostly unrelated
things, and it'd be nice to have multiple review queues for this with their own
filters, much like e-mail clients have folders with filters filling them.

Also, it may be nice to be able to push a revision into someone else's (read:
Tim's) review queue. If the multiple queue thing is implemented, this could go
into a separate things other people think I should review queue so as to not
get in the way of other things.

[Bug 25272] New: Change behavior for clicking payments wiki logo to send use to wmfWiki homepage

2010-09-23 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=25272

Summary: Change behavior for clicking payments wiki logo to
send use to wmfWiki homepage
   Product: Wikimedia
   Version: unspecified
  Platform: All
OS/Version: All
Status: NEW
  Keywords: shell
  Severity: enhancement
  Priority: Normal
 Component: Site requests
AssignedTo: wikibugs-l@lists.wikimedia.org
ReportedBy: jameso...@gmail.com
CC: tf...@wikimedia.org

If possible would love to do this. Right now if a donor (or anyone) clicks the
wmf logo in the left hand corner they get sent to the payments wiki homepage
that is just a warning to log in. I'm not sure if interwiki links work on
MediaWiki:mainpage ? If not we may be able to do it with the corehack for the
default skin only since no one is logged in while browsing that wiki (assuming
you can do that for 1 wiki with the set up...)

[Bug 25273] New: Message::params() triggers a fatal error

2010-09-23 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=25273

Summary: Message::params() triggers a fatal error
   Product: MediaWiki
   Version: 1.17-svn
  Platform: All
OS/Version: All
Status: NEW
  Keywords: patch
  Severity: normal
  Priority: Normal
 Component: Blocking
AssignedTo: wikibugs-l@lists.wikimedia.org
ReportedBy: has...@free.fr

Created attachment 7697
  -- https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/attachment.cgi?id=7697
trivial patch to solve a fatal error

I had a fatal error while running phpunit tests with r73625.

The cause is that Message::params() incorrectly use func_get_args which can not
be used as a second parameter of a function. The bug appears with PHP 5.2.12
(under Mac OS X 1.5).

How to trigger it :
?php
function f1() {
 print_r( array_merge(
array_values( func_get_args() )
 )); }

function f2() {
 print_r( array_merge(
array(), // push func_get_args as a second parameter
array_values( func_get_args() )
 )); }

print Calling f1:\n;
f1( array() );
print Calling f2:\n;
f2( array() );

Please find attached a patch that push func_get_args() result in an array.

Section header messages:
pt-movepage-list-pages
pt-movepage-list-translation
pt-movepage-list-section
pt-movepage-list-other
generally should use PLURAL, and not be present when an empty section follows.

But:
Since these messages are mainly seen by administrators, who likely are not that
picky, and tweaking code so as to know the number of section entries in advance
before a section is being computed, is a bit work, and adds to server load, and
having only one entry is usually unlikely, this is a very low priority issue at
present, imho.

A search option incategory: would be immensely helpful. Often you can narrow
down what you are looking for to a specific set of pages - a page on some
topic, or some community page type.

Immensely useful. Examples given on request if not obvious.

incategory: already exists. It has several limitations, though. Most of these
limitations are likely documented in other bugs, making this one likely a dupe.

From http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Help:Searchingoldid=382451245:
incategory: - using the incategory: parameter returns pages in a given category
(as long as the pages are directly categorized, and not transcluded through
templates). This feature doesn't return pages in subcategories. Note that, for
category names that contain a space, either the space must be replaced with an
underscore or the category name must be surrounded by double quotes for the
search to be effective.

[Bug 11267] User should be able to set fallback language(s) in preferences

--- Comment #12 from Purodha Blissenbach bugzilla.wikime...@publi.purodha.net
2010-09-23 20:34:37 UTC ---
Encountered another problem: We have some partial localisations, that heavily
depend on their respective fallbacks, without which they were incomplete. These
are several xzz-formal ones where only those messages are translated that
directly address users, overriding informal/familiar/direct wording with
formal/respectful/polite wording, and arz which localizes only those
Egypt-spoken-Arabic having computerese terms and/or being different from ar,
the common macrolanguage standard Arabic ones. These fallback languages have to
be consulted *before* user-set fallback chains are being checked.

What if, for each language, we specify a fallback chain including the point
where a user-specified chain is to be inserted, if any?

https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=25277

Summary: invisible directional character on File page pollutes
pasted filenames
   Product: MediaWiki
   Version: 1.16-svn
  Platform: All
OS/Version: All
Status: NEW
  Severity: normal
  Priority: Normal
 Component: General/Unknown
AssignedTo: wikibugs-l@lists.wikimedia.org
ReportedBy: worden@gmail.com

The File page outputs an invisible Unicode directional character (Left to
Right Mark or its counterpart) just after the link to the raw file, with no
space intervening.

That's, for instance, here on line 479 of ImagePage.php (r73636):
 span class=dangerousLink{$medialink}/span$dirmark

This means that when a user copies the filename from that link in order to
paste it into a wiki page, the invisible character is pasted as well. This can
cause problems in the wiki page and is hard to troubleshoot because the
offending character is invisible.

I don't know anything about bidirectional text, so I don't have a patch, but
can't that mark be separated from the link text, or even converted into an html
attribute or something?

[Bug 25278] New: Cross-project search?

   Version: any
  Platform: All
OS/Version: All
Status: NEW
  Severity: enhancement
  Priority: Normal
 Component: Lucene Search
AssignedTo: rain...@eunet.rs
ReportedBy: ft2.w...@gmail.com

Is it possible to extend Lucene Search to allow two extra check boxes, for all
sister projects and all languages?

Right now a search is limited to one wiki. In some cases there will be findings
on other projects in the same language (wikipedia article on X, wikisource
material where X is mentioned, wikinews hits where X is mentioned) or in other
languages (eg to see what other language wikis have to say about some place or
person). Very limiting.

The reason that there is no specific, read-to-deploy extension to review is
that it took such a preposterously long time to get anywhere that the original
author of the extension gave up on the Wikipedia project.

Having said that, somebody dedicated enough to actually do something instead of
just talking should be able to fix things in no more than half an hour.

I'm not doubting that it could be, but perhaps someone could help me to
understand how is this type of information being available a problem.

I don't know the extent to which user preferences are available, but I would
say that the most (and probably only) problematic user preference is user
e-mail address. In addition to privacy and expectation of privacy concerns,
something like this could theoretically be used for e-mail address harvesting
or revealing that multiple accounts belong to the same individual.

The personal settings of a user are usually considered to be private. I don't
know if it's worth arguing about whether it's a problem or not that e.g. your
personal watchlist is made publicly available.

I'd guess there's a reason that the API blocks these kind of requests, rsp.
requires a special token from the user.

The watchlist thing sounds important, and the general idea of exposing
something that's been considered private before seem like great reasons to
change course here.

Are there any objections to including the user.options module as an inline
script? Logged in users would naturally get their own versions while anons
would get the defaults. This would solve the issue without having to give up
the functionality.
