Unfortunately I do not know exactly how to do that, but I think that the option 2 requires more effort. The reason I suggested option 2 is that option 1 will most likely break things (and not just the wiki being moved, but things like account creations and CentralAuth too) while the move is in progress. Also, option 2 allows us to try things out and see if they work, which I think is wise since we've never renamed a wiki before. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email --- You are receiving this mail because: --- You are on the CC list for the bug. ___ Wikibugs-l mailing list Wikibugs-l@lists.wikimedia.org https://lists.wikimedia.org/mailman/listinfo/wikibugs-l

https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=503 Krinkle krinklem...@gmail.com changed: What|Removed |Added CC||krinklem...@gmail.com --- Comment #11 from Krinkle krinklem...@gmail.com 2011-04-07 10:56:06 UTC --- (In reply to comment #9) As suggested in bug26587, it might be worthwhile to consider bundling Popups, or at least a subset of it, as core JS or a maintained extension. I'd opt for an extension for better integration and optimalization. For example, the generated resources can include certain pieces of information by default in the output of elements which would otherwise take extra http requests to the api. And ofcourse internationalization and usage of mw.msg (translatewiki!) Note that the current version of popups was developed a long time ago, by making it into an extension the popup-modules can become seperate files again (like they once were) and combined by ResourceLoader. Since many people use popups (not just en.wiki), porting to resourceloader and making it more integrated would possible save a noticeable amount of requests and bandwidth as well. Also, it should probably be rewritten in a more object oriented approach (partially already is though). -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email --- You are receiving this mail because: --- You are the assignee for the bug. [Bug 503] Create NavigationPopups extension
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=503 --- Comment #12 from Krinkle krinklem...@gmail.com 2011-04-07 11:17:21 UTC --- I'd like to take this on as a project and hope some people will join. Basically we need the following (imho): * Rewrite from scratch in a modular way in multiple files through ResourceLoader * Use existing modules like jQuery, jUI and mediaWiki. library where appropiate (ie. for selecting elements, dom manipulation, query parameters, ajax requests with JSON callbacks ($.getJSON), getting user preferences (mw.user.options) * Redesign (or design at all) a nice interface for the popups and the dropdown menus (right now it's mostly adhoc elements with proof-of-concept styling). This will likely make the interface more breathing and less 'tech-savvy'. We should also re-use core/skin styles/classes where possible (for example for errors and difference-views) * Localization: No need to define all languages in the script and load for everbody. We can do this using the MediaWiki extension i18n system and use the known route via translatewiki.net for translations which will likely improve translations and cause a wider usage as well. In addition this will also make it much easier to track which messages are yet to be translated and which messages need to be reviewed etc. (all part of translatewiki system) * Independant from language, project or server. Should work in any language on any 'normal' MediaWiki install (English Wikipedia, Hebrew Wiktionary, but also wikis outside Wikimedia environment) It would be great if some of the original developers of the gadget could join as well. Would probably be a fun project for them, and they probably know the codebase a lot better than me. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email --- You are receiving this mail because: --- You are the assignee for the bug. [Bug 27488] Move JS libraries back to a header and do not load them dynamically
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=27488 --- Comment #25 from Roan Kattouw roan.katt...@gmail.com 2011-04-07 12:23:10 UTC --- I have laid the ground work for this in r85616. The startup, jquery and mediawiki modules are now loaded in the head, along with any modules flagged with 'position' = 'top'. Modules whose position is set to 'bottom' (this is the default) are still loaded at the bottom of the body, which is also where legacy JS (from non-RL-ified extensions), user preferences, site JS and user JS is loaded. I guess all we need to do now is identify modules that should load in the head rather than in the body, and flag them with 'position' = 'top'. This should only be done for modules that would otherwise cause a flash of unstyled content or have another good reason to live in the head: loading things in the head degrades performance, as previously mentioned. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email --- You are receiving this mail because: --- You are on the CC list for the bug. ___ Wikibugs-l mailing list Wikibugs-l@lists.wikimedia.org https://lists.wikimedia.org/mailman/listinfo/wikibugs-l

If my interface language in Commons is Hebrew, but for whatever reason i watch a clip with subtitles in English or Italian, the subtitles are currently shown RTL and it is wrong. If the subtitles are an HTML element, they should always have lang=XX dir=XXX - lang is known according to the file name and the dir is known according to the language. This may be a problem for Azeri, which may be written in Latin and Arabic (and maybe there are still people who write it in Cyrillic) and for several languages of India, which are written in Arabic and in LTR Indian scripts. Ideally we'd want to send people to the appropriate topic landing page (e.g. Community landing page), but that requires additional coding, so for the moment I suggest we just not add any link to the banner. [Bug 28301] Translated messages in RTL must appear as RTL
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=28301 --- Comment #4 from Purodha Blissenbach bugzilla.wikime...@publi.purodha.net 2011-04-07 17:07:09 UTC --- (In reply to comment #3) I think MediaWiki:-namespace subpages are next to impossible to put a right direction on. Contrary, it is easy. The subpage name contains the language or locale code at its end, which gives the intended directionality for the message rendered and the textarea, if any. All other parts of the page may have a directionality of their own. Of course, the idea that the page had a directionality common to all its parts is (generally) wrong, and the directionality of the outer parts of the page should likely be derived from the combinations of wiki and interface language (or locale) used, in the usual way. Note that this case is limited to scenarios where a non-RTL langauge user is editing an RTL-language, since otherwise the direction is inherited from the page user language. Not true. Of course, it applied as well to an RTL user language being used while editing an LTR language message. Btw., while inheritance can of course be used to save an HTML attribute being output, this is of little practical concern, imho. I do not see any difference between the normal editing interface and the scripted one. In either case, the server can output everything correctly to the client, and no script interaction concerning directionality is required. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email --- You are receiving this mail because: --- You are on the CC list for the bug. ___ Wikibugs-l mailing list Wikibugs-l@lists.wikimedia.org https://lists.wikimedia.org/mailman/listinfo/wikibugs-l

[Bug 22881] Greatly improved Export and Import
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=22881 --- Comment #19 from Bryan Tong Minh bryan.tongm...@gmail.com 2011-04-07 20:24:43 UTC --- I've started with implementing the required FileRepo changes in r85635. I've heavily modified your patch to match our coding standards. I have moved most logic from LocalFile to OldLocalFile, because that means that we can use things like $this-getRel() etc. I will next look at the multipart/related parts of the patch. (In reply to comment #14) Thanks everybody for remarks :) (In reply to comment #13) I retract that. The timestamp part of the filename is the timestamp when the file was moved into the archive, not the timestamp when the file was originally uploaded. Yeah, originally it is. But I personally don't understand the practical sense of this. The time when the file was moved into the archive is usually equal to or 1-2 second relative to the time when a new version of the same file was uploaded. So each version contains timestamp of another, moreover, not always an accurate one. I think versions should be independent, and should not form such linked lists. Perhaps, but changing this may lead to unexpected breakage, which I don't feel inclined to search for. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email --- You are receiving this mail because: --- You are the assignee for the bug. [Bug 28328] Hide Special:Resetpass for users if they don't have a valid password hash in db and no AuthPlugin is being used
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=28328 --- Comment #8 from Brion Vibber br...@wikimedia.org 2011-04-07 22:02:55 UTC --- In this case (no password set on creation, no auth plugin), the user has no way to log in until a password has been set -- so they can't go to Special:ResetPass etc. The most common example of this case is user accounts created by another logged-in user, with a new password reset code sent via email. Until they log in with the reset code, they don't have a password and can't actually log in directly. If your extension is customizing authentication in order to log people in via cookies, then it needs to implement the AuthPlugin interface -- it can then tell the system that passwords don't make sense by returning false for its allowPasswordChange method(). There may be a case where you could be logged in with no local password set, but there is some way to reset local passwords, but offhand not sure. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email --- You are receiving this mail because: --- You are the assignee for the bug. https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=28460 Bawolff bawolff...@gmail.com changed: What|Removed |Added CC||bawolff...@gmail.com --- Comment #2 from Bawolff bawolff...@gmail.com 2011-04-07 22:07:08 UTC --- (In reply to comment #1) We already make it impossible to create pages with invisible spaces: http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Horsesho%E2%80%8Be_orbitaction=edit Is there any reason to do more than this? That is some customization on the Wikipedia side (abuse filter presumably). We allow creating such pages in general. For example: http://test.wikipedia.org/wiki/Horsesho%E2%80%8Be_orbit Invisible characters are sometimes needed for typographical reasons. I'm not sure if that is the case for Zero width space, but certainly is for other zero width characters (ZWNJ, etc)- so we should be careful before excluding any such characters. From the spec - Zero width space indicates a word break or line break opportunity, except that it has no width. Zero-width space characters are intended to be used in languages that have no visible word spacing to represent word break or line break opportunities, such as Thai, Myanmar, Khmer, and Japanese. Thus, such characters might potentially be useful in a very very long title, in a language that doesn't use spaces, to indicate where to put a line break in the title. (Of course I don't speak any such languages, so could be wrong on that). Anyways I don't think we should disallow it without being very sure its un-needed. (OTOH, we do disallow left-to-right mark characters, which are similar, as well as normalizing things like narrow-non-break space to normal spaces, so we do similar things to what is proposed here) -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email --- You are receiving this mail because: --- You are the assignee for the bug. https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=28363 --- Comment #8 from MZMcBride b...@mzmcbride.com 2011-04-07 22:24:06 UTC --- (In reply to comment #7) Currently this is not a change that will be accepted into the main repository; as noted above, the requested feature doesn't mesh with CheckUser's design goals (use by a trusted admin subset on Wikimedia Foundation sites, with a flat permission access level). For what it's worth, I disagree with this resolution, but seeing that both Tim and Brion have now marked this as wontfix, I won't overturn it. CheckUser was certainly designed with Wikimedia wikis in mind, but much like MediaWiki and its various extensions, it's used on plenty of other sites. I don't see anything here that interferes with the principle and tradition of agnostic code development. It's perfectly possible to add a permissions check that doesn't interfere with Wikimedia's operations (e.g., comment out the permissions making them opt-in, problem solved). The idea itself (allowing people to be exempt from CheckUsers) has a bit flimsy reasoning currently, but no more so than the counter-arguments, which basically amount to this wasn't in the original spec. I don't see any reason that we should be saying we're not even going to accept patches for this, so stop asking. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email --- You are receiving this mail because: --- You are on the CC list for the bug. ___ Wikibugs-l mailing list Wikibugs-l@lists.wikimedia.org https://lists.wikimedia.org/mailman/listinfo/wikibugs-l

https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=28363 --- Comment #9 from Aaron Schulz jschulz_4...@msn.com 2011-04-07 23:50:33 UTC --- Without any real justification *for* a feature that goes against the design, it shouldn't be considered on bugzilla. People could still talk about it, such as on MW.org, and come up with reasons. BZ isn't really a good forum for tossing ideas out there (not once the comments start piling up). This reminds me of some of the confusing, un-discussed, design melting features requested for FlaggedRevs...which ended up causing trouble and some were later removed or redone. These things need to be discussed/refined first before being implementable. When first going to the page I get sent to the m-dot site, but after clicking through to the regular interface, I see the regular site render -- for me initially as the regular view but squished (with Opera Mini's Mobile View setting off). If I turn the Mobile view setting on, most of the CSS gets hidden and the page is reformatted to single column, making the tabs appear as a bullet list down near the end. Much to my surprise, the 'Zobrazit historii' tab is indeed missing! To confirm, I checked other pages on cs.wikipedia.org and even on en.wikipedia.org -- where 'History' is again missing.
