[Bug 29806] Install extension Pchart4mw on en.wikipedia.org

(In reply to comment #1)
This extension needs review (security, performance...), and also adding to our
 SVN repository

What does this mean exactly?

Though, I'm not sure how 5 supports == consensus

What are the rules for consensus on extension installation then?

[Bug 29595] Search suggestions broken on als.wikipedia.org

2011-07-11 Thread bugzilla-daemon

--- Comment #15 from Clemens Kienzle clemens.kien...@gmx.net 2011-07-11
07:23:04 UTC ---
Strange that the search suggestions work for you, they don't work for me (or
any other users I've talked to). It will take me to the article if I enter the
whole title, but it won't display any suggestions as I type.

Holder undid the modifications because several templates stopped working. Most
importantly: http://als.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vorlage:Titel

On als.wikipedia, all articles are saved under the Standard German keyword, but
the Alemannic title is displayed through the above template. For example, on
http://als.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kartoffel the title is displayed as Härdöpfel.

Something in the changes you made caused this template to stop working. So
instead of Härdöpfel it would display undefined. Since this affects nearly
all pages, it is pretty serious.

Maybe we should first figure out why Vorlage:Titel doesn't work with your
modifications, and then figure out the search function? Should I open a new bug
for that?

Thank you.

One more small thing: it appears that we cannot remove autoreviewed group. In
the permission management page, that group appears with a star (just like sysop
and bureaucrat). Because of this, I have been reluctant to play arround and
change those rights so far.

What's the latest on this? The size limit on uploads should be made visible

The size limits for regular uploads is visible on the upload form. Don't know
if this is since 1.17 or 1.18 though. As for upload by FTP, no progress has
been made.

and you left out the 5px margin, making the text stick too close to the
 image.

The arrow leads from the article title to the redirect text. It's not an arrow
standing besides unrelated text, where separation would be useful. ( at least
use margin-left, since this it what you want to change)

Brion also said there was nothing wrong with 150%.

Comment #6:
the smaller font size seems a smidge too small maybe but the larger one is a
 smidge too large IMO.

 Alternatively:
 * Red diffchange - black (for colorblinded and in general for all audiences
 to
better visually tell apart the colors)
 * Background colors to red/green -ish (diff style)

This looks like the best proposal yet. I like the overall background color,
since it's the most common diff style. Two tweaks:

I added a padding: 2px 1px; to .diffchange, this makes the marked area extend
to the top/bottom of the line.
I'd say the marked portions could use a bit more saturation, I increased it
from 30 to 45 (HSL model)

To be able to impose partial global locks not related exclusively to vandalism
and spam, wikisets are needed to be connected with CentralAuth, so global locks
could be partially imposed.

(This is Wikimedia issue, although it requires MediaWiki implementation. If you

I'm not sure on the rules for consensus. 5 users out of enwiki's community
seems far too small

It means the activation isn't of this extension isn't a simple process. It
needs checking that the code is sane, secure and won't kill (though, this isn't
always obvious) the wikimedia servers. [2]

For the ease of deployment etc, it needs to be in our SVN repository [1]

Just gave this extension a quick look (over in its Google code repo, it does
need to be in SVN here for WMF deployment). At the very least:
* uses raw $_REQUEST
* Couple of global functions should be in classes -- use the autoloader rather
than raw includes
* using $wgParser for hook initialization

The extension part of it seems reasonably sane barring these issues--again, I
just looked quickly and this was not an in-depth review. I did not look at the
pChart library it uses yet, that could be a whole different story.

[Bug 28904] Update jQuery version to 1.6.1 in MediaWiki 1.19

(In reply to comment #16)
It's only a minor point release, and it's not too late for 1.19 (is it?).

No, and it's already been done, I logged a new bug rather than just reopening
this one. If the issue had been unresolved before 1.6.2 came out, retitling
this bug etc would've been fine.

As it had been fixed, as is, bug 28904 is the more appropriate way of doing it

When installing MediaWiki (1.17+, with the new installer) on Sourceforge, it
gives a fatal error: PHP's PCRE module seems to be compiled without PCRE_UTF8
support. MediaWiki requires UTF-8 support to function correctly.

I don't know much about the problem or PCRE itself (maybe this is a
Sourceforge-specific problem), but it's possible to install MW 1.16 on
Sourceforge, and then upgrading to trunk so it should be possible to install
1.17+ or trunk directly.

That's nice. I'm rewording reopening it since it's currently pretty obscure.
The only way afaik to get there (w/o knowing the url) is via the status table
and then clicking the status names.

As soon as you have a filter applied, a clear filter button is offered next
to the searchfield. IMO a dropdown menu conatining the status list would be
well placed there.

This bug has been getting worse on the English Wikipedia. Now, when I am
logged in, articles that don't have nearly as many links are taking 35 seconds
to load. Examples are [[Stalemate]] amd [[Zugzwang]]. These use a moderate
number of inline author/date (Harvard) references.

Doing a diff, editing, or comparing selected versions takes probably 2 minutes
or longer - when it works.

This is becoming a severe problem for when I am logged in.

Well we use unicode in some of our regular expressions, so we need support for

fault for not being robust enough.

--- Comment #4 from Robin Pepermans (SPQRobin) robinp.1...@gmail.com

It would be useful for e.g. the Translate extension where the direction depends
on the language of the interface message (see e.g. r91881 where I added classes
named *-ltr, *-rtl added by Language-getDir() in PHP.

However, overall I don't think @doubleflip would be needed, Translate is more
an exceptional extension in terms of directionality.
Core MW is OK without it: I added sitedir-ltr/rtl (on body) for the site
content language, and mw-content-ltr/rtl classes for the page content language,
and that seems to be enough for most things. (I also had to add rules like
.mw-content-ltr .mw-content-rtl { ... } to circumvent the CSS priority system,
for cases where there was different directionality within the content.)

I think it would be more useful if there was something like
/* @flipclasses */ .class-ltr { margin-left:1em; }
that would generate
.class-ltr { margin-left:1em; }
and
.class-rtl { margin-right:1em; }

--- Comment #2 from Michael Dale d...@ucsc.edu 2011-07-11 16:03:55 UTC ---
It would be good to know if your using the quicktime component or java. They
both have stability issues but one may be worse than the other and we can
target the one that sucks less.

Also we may recommend safari 5 users add the
http://code.google.com/p/webm/downloads/list webm component if that ends up
better maintained and would not be broken when you issue seek requests.

As a practical concern safari 5 bug are challenging, because I don't have a mac
readily accessible to test on.

I think Ogg quicktime component still does progressive download to your seek
point, so seeks appear broken. In theory someone could update the quicktime ogg
component to use the ogg index if we can hunt down the maintainer. But in
practice we are probably better off putting our efforts towards webm component
testing and bug reports since it seems to have a little more activity:
http://review.webmproject.org/gitweb?p=webmquicktime.git

All videos in TMH will have at least one webm transcode.

en.wikipedia.org will not automatically redirect to en.m.wikipedia.org when I
browse using Opera Mobile; user agent: Opera/9.80 (Android 2.3.3; Linux; Opera
Mobi/ADR-blabla; U; en) Presto/2.7.81 Version/11.00).

As an alternative to eternally chasing the mobile browsers that don't clearly
include Mobile in the User Agent, may I suggest that a cookie-based redirect
is implemented? Right now, you can set a cookie to disable the mobile site for
a particular device; it would be nice to be able force the opposite. Not only
to deal with unknown user agents, but also convenient if you accidentally click
'permanently disable mobile wikipedia'.

This should have been fixed when we ran the maintainence script way back. I
guess the script (updateCollation.php) needs to be run again? (It should
automatically only do things needing updating, so it should be fast if its only
a small minority that are old).

As an aside, the only way to fix this in the editing interface is to remove
cat, save, re-add cat. Purging won't do anything.

otoh, the cl_timestamp is 2011-07-07 06:18:18 which is quite recent, so maybe
there's a larger problem...

What is mentioned in comment 1 is exactly the issue. In particular, when
messages end with a newline (\n) that was noted in Translate using a single
\ without leading whitespace. However, we use to have TM suggestions that did
insert whitespace at the beginning of every line, or if translators copy-pasted
the TM suggestion instead of using the JavaScript insert arrow, it might also
have leading whitespace. Annoying, but almost impossible to fix, because
however unlikely, \ (a single space) might be valid message content in
gettext.

The only fix that I see is save time time gettext validation (source to
translation) for exactly this issue, and if the entries do not
both end with '\n' just mark it fuzzy. Is that possible, Niklas?

[Bug 18721] Add configuration variable for limiting the languages displayed on Special:Translate

2011-07-11 Thread bugzilla-daemon

--- Comment #5 from Siebrand s.mazel...@xs4all.nl 2011-07-11 17:37:30 UTC ---
Correct my if I'm wrong, Robert, but this is about supporting a defined set of
languages/codes, instead of whatever MediaWiki support when using Translate,
correct? I then tried to get the scope of this feature request broadened to
allow defining a set of language codes that MediaWiki would allow as locales in
comment 1.

The context of the original request is that we were only localising in to a
very small number of languages, and so wanted the list to only display those we
were (for convenience and aesthetic reasons).

FWIW I am no longer involved in that project, so the outcome of this bug isn't
much of a concern to me, though I think it would be useful for some instances
outside of translatewiki.net.

On a wiki not related to Wikipedia, we seems to have the same issue, so the
routers might not be involved. I should add that we have only one cache
 server.

Is this your own wiki? If so, could you give us some more information so that
we can track this down?

[Bug 29804] jquery.byteLimit should allow the limit to be reached

r91891 fixes these test cases:
* take the char code and run it through jquery.byteLength instead of hardcoding
3 (keypress gets char codes, not keycodes)
* fix for one test case that expected 10 chars but actually gets 12

Unknowns:
* how does any of this interact with native OS input methods?
* does any of this work with Narayam JS input method?
* how does keypress handle non-BOM characters? Are they reported as two events
with surrogate pairs? If so this may explode horribly with them. ;)
* in general this keypress technique fails to handle paste and won't properly
handle text selection replacement etc.

the dependency is captured and not forgotten. Thanks!
