Toolbar buttons vertically misaligned, seen on MediaWiki.org (Chrome/Ubuntu)

More fun that's probably related: buttons on the advanced toolbar, when
expanded, are sometimes vertically misaligned.

To clarify: This falls into the not always reproducible category and only
occurs on some edit loads. When it does, I'm not getting any JS errors, nor any
unusual response codes for any request.

OK, after lots more random pageloads:

1) I cannot reproduce the issue with the misaligned buttons if I deactivate the
Parser Playground gadget. That gadget adds a Rich editor tab (similar to
the Advanced tab) to the toolbar. Sometimes that tab does appear, sometimes
it doesn't appear, and sometimes the buttons are misaligned, and sometimes they
are not.

2) Similarly, sometimes I see a flash of the old toolbar (eww), and sometimes I
do not.

3) Similarly, in the same page request, sometimes I see the issue with the
sidebar (arrows indicating expansion of sidebar elements without them actually
being expanded), sometimes I do not.

I've saved an HAR file from Chrome for one of those page requests which led to
the broken toolbar view if it's any help in debugging.

Most edits from February 2002 onwards have survived intact in the Wikipedia
database, but some have not, mostly due to deletion-related accidents. I've
compiled a list of these at:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Graham87/Page_history_observations

I'd like to be able to use the newly released historical database dumps to
re-add some of these missing edits. Ideally, these database dumps should be
placed on read-only wikis, where any admin can use Special:Import to retrieve
the necessary edits like the Nostalgia Wikipedia (see bug 20280).

We could do that using a global array just like we did to track stylesheet
version. Or define a constant for each API class much like Parser::VERSION or
Parser_LinkHooks::VERSION.

On Special:Preferences all sections except the current should be hidden via
Javascript. This seems to be broken with 1.19.
I tested with Firefox 3.6.x on mw: and simple: and all sections are visible, as
if no Javascript was present. It works in debug mode (i.e. when appending
?debug=true to the URL), and it works on beta.wmflabs.
The Javascript is loaded (I get the file

with the code that should hide the sections) but apparently isn't executed.
There are no errors in the Javascript error log. Clearing the cache doesn't
help.

Time for a ReplaceText session.

Unfortunately I can't upgrade the site to test as it uses SRF Exhibit.

However, work on an exhibit replacement is starting next week. So I will be
able to test in about 2 weeks time. Is it okay to park this until then?

r87339 is marked as TODO, but just to have a bug for it: 100 characters are
really short, especially when you want to enter an URL to document deletions
due to copyright violations.
I used Web Developer to disable the maxlength and succeeded to put in
approximately 250 bytes (as expected), so the length should increase.

People have reported not being able to pages to their watchlist here on meta.
I've confirmed that it's also happening on mediawiki.org, so it's probably a
1.19 issue. Steps to reproduce: go to a page you don't yet follow, and try to
watch it. The reverse (trying to unfollow a watched page) doesn't work either.

[[Special:EditWatchlist/raw]] works.

Well, it is probably more than that as it definitely doesn't spit out
notifications for all pages, and even for certain pages it doesn't do it on a 1
for 1 basis. That said, keep it closed, I now check meta more regularly.

 We could do that using a global array just like we did to track stylesheet
 version. Or define a constant for each API class much like Parser::VERSION or
 Parser_LinkHooks::VERSION.

I'd much prefer the latter. As long as we can define a clear policy for how
often and when the version numbers should be bumped.

 If this doesn't break auto-suggesting in common IDEs (which IDEs does the
 average MediaWiki dev use?), this would be a nice workaround.

I use NetBeans and I know a couple of other people who do. I know there's a
couple of phpStorm users out there, and I wouldn't be surprised if we've got a
few people using Eclipse as well.

[Bug 34437] Cannot set time limit in safe mode

2012-02-17 Thread bugzilla-daemon

--- Comment #4 from Antoine hashar Musso has...@free.fr 2012-02-17 13:36:15

safe_mode is being dropped in PHP 5.4 so it is useless to introduce a new
wrapper that will be soon obsolete. Instead, in MediaWiki, set_time_limit()
calls should be wrapped with wfSuppressWarnings() / wfRestoreWarnings().

The bug could be reported upstream to WURLF but I have not find their bug
reporter. So I guess the pragmatic way to fix the issue is to make PHP ignore
the error by prefixing the set_time_limit() call with an @ at
/extensions/MobileFrontend/library/WURFL/DeviceRepositoryBuilder.php line 79.

[Bug 34393] Install Artifactory to distribute MWDumper as a Maven Artifact

2012-02-17 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=34393

--- Comment #3 from orenbochman orenboch...@gmail.com 2012-02-17 13:59:50 UTC
---
I was led to believe that these bugs are a formality and that this would be
done by the end of the day.

I've placed two abandoned projects into continuous Integration (CI) with the
express intention to facilitate renewal of their maintenance by my self and
volunteers (referred above as 3rd parties).

This took up significant allocation time (4 days) of my free time in January
and February. Since our Jerkins is geared to PHP and not Java but I've believe
that this issue is important because: --

1. CI empowers 3rd parties by allowing them to figure out which versions they
should work on based on reports of the version which last compiled and which
tests it passed.
2. It ensures that the software won't only build work on a single machine. The
same goes to testing.
3. It makes all the dependencies explicit. The production version of Search
code and its tests depends on files and scripts only available to users with
root access to production servers
4. It has end product - downloadable versions which can be consumed by
downstream projects and by end users - ops who require these extensions without
getting bogged down by setting up build environments.

B. In response to comment 1:

I asked to use Artifactory as explained in my update MWDumper - CI +
Artifactory last monday on 'Wikitext-l'. But to recap - the alternatives is to
ask an external repository to distribute our visioned binaries. If hosting such
an artifact repository is to difficult for WMF we could come to an arrangement
with Codehaus, Ibilio, or Nexes. Let me know and I'll update POMs and Jenkins
and I'll close this bug.

However as you pointed out it is not the way we work. I still think that we
should host our own Repository.

I've evaluated Artifactory on the same Tomacat hosting my local Jenkins. I
don't care which product is used as long as it integrates with Jenkins.

C. In reponse to comment 2:

Pretty please - just one more repo software soon you can remove one of the
old ones like subversion.

(In reply to comment #7)
 The RfC premise looks wrong to me.

 There are logs both for user to children accounts
 http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Special%3ALoguser=Little+Red+Corvette+Guy

 and for children accounts linking them to the parent one
 http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Special%3ALogpage=User%3AMr.+Playbill

 That can be done even with no checkuser rights. I think that this bug should
 be
 wontfixed and a new enhacement opened to checkuser extension with wherever
 they
 want the relationship to appear.

If the premise looks wrong to you, it's because you're misunderstanding it.
We're trying to prevent him (and others, but mostly him) from being able to
create 6 accounts and create that much more annoyance for the people cleaning
up after him. We all know when it's him, that's not the issue; the issue is
that he's creating ~300% more of a mess than he'd be able to if this was
implemented.

No idea how current this code is. But this could go in as a feature that could
be enabled by passing an appropriate parameter. It shouldn't be the default
behavior but I can see why some people would find it useful.

This could be because an MTA sees bad headers and blocks them as suspiciously
spammy. I've been getting CR emails.

to spell things out - this means that the build will only work on my machine
and on the jenkins machine - other developers won't be able to build this
project so won't be able to contribute.

And each time MWDumper changes it will have to be manualy copied manualy to any
development testing machine that builds search. If there are bug reports they
will not be reprodcucible since mwdumper is not versioned

The test/mediawiki/core2 has some big objects which were uploaded to svn by
mistake. There is at least an OGG video and a few MB parserTests file.

We might want to drop those objects to shrunken the repo size.

One can found the object sha1 using verify-pack:

git verify-pack -v

The 3rd field is uncompressed size, 4th one compressed size. So the last two

A commit by someone to parserTests.php that inserted a 8MB test case :(

OggS

That is a theora encoded video of some fishes (git show 442cecf

 Unless I'm misunderstanding do r111733 and r111651 take care of this?

They're steps in the right direction, but ideally PHP shouldn't know at all if

too.

The wikihiero has been the very first extension and contains a lot of PNG
files, it was then moved out of core to make it lighter but it is still in the
subversion repository.

This bug is about having /trunk/phase3/extensions/wikihiero skipped when using
svn2git. That software does not support exclusion once a path is allowed (i.e.
/trunk/phase3 ).

| AD3 FOO || 25.71.34.0
|-
| zfs || 192.168.151.0
|}

Upon sorting by IP, we get a table like this (Text Rendered here)
+-+---
! A   ! IP ^
+-+---
| foobar  | 25.23.33.0
| errata-prod | 25.71.30.0
| errata-test | 25.71.31.0
| Satellite   | 25.71.32.0
| AD3 | 25.71.33.0
| AD3 FOO | 25.71.34.0
| zfs | 192.168.151.0

However when we add the CIDR mask to the IPs, the table does not sort
correctly.
{| class=wikitable sortable
! A !! IP
|-
| errata-prod || 25.71.30.0/24
|-
| errata-test || 25.71.31.0/24
|-
| Satellite || 25.71.32.0/24
|-
| foobar || 25.23.33.0/24
|-
| AD3 || 25.71.33.0/24
|-
| AD3 FOO || 25.71.34.0/24
|-
| zfs || 192.168.151.0/24
|}

Sorting by IP gives
+-+---
! A   ! IP  ^
+-+---
| errata-prod | 25.71.30.0/24
| errata-test | 25.71.31.0/24
| Satellite   | 25.71.32.0/24
| foobar  | 25.23.33.0/24
| AD3 | 25.71.33.0/24
| AD3 FOO | 25.71.34.0/24
| zfs | 192.168.151.0/24

Which is incorrect, 'foobar' is not where is should be. It appears to be sorted
by the third decimal octet which is confirmed by changing the foobar value to
'25.23.47.0/24'
Which gives the 'sorted' table
+-+-
! A   ! IP^
+-+-
| errata-prod | 25.71.30.0/24
| errata-test | 25.71.31.0/24
| Satellite   | 25.71.32.0/24
| AD3 | 25.71.33.0/24
| AD3 FOO | 25.71.34.0/24
| foobar  | 25.23.47.0/24
| zfs | 192.168.151.0/24

Changing the CIDR mask doesn't change the outcome

+-+-
! A   ! IP^
+-+-
| errata-prod | 25.71.30.0/16
| errata-test | 25.71.31.0/16
| Satellite   | 25.71.32.0/16
| AD3 | 25.71.33.0/16
| AD3 FOO | 25.71.34.0/24
| foobar  | 25.23.47.0/16
| zfs | 192.168.151.0/24

EXPECTED OUTCOME:
Table Sorted by IP/CIDR should output the rows in the same order as IP alone.
+-+-
! A   ! IP^
+-+-
| foobar  | 25.23.47.0/16
| errata-prod | 25.71.30.0/16
| errata-test | 25.71.31.0/16
| Satellite   | 25.71.32.0/16
| AD3 | 25.71.33.0/16

In Persian Wikisource, local image upload is disallowed and all images have
been moved to the Commons. The logo of fawikisource is also moved to the
Commons, but deleting the local file is not possible until wgLogo value in
InitialiseSetting.php file is updated to:

I don't agree with the solution suggested here, because if a project decides to
disallow local uploads (and rely on a shared repository of images), then
handling logos will become an issue (example: bug 34476).

A better approach, in my humble opinion, is to have a MediaWiki message
dedicated to the image path. It can contain a reference to a file (e.g.
File:Wiki.png) in which case MediaWiki will automatically find the find
(locally or on a shared repo) and use it, or it can contain a URL (starting
with http://, https:// or //).

Can this be done inside of Labs, and community managed? I don't think ops is

be fine (as long as everyone understands that it is community managed - meaning
ops won't handle outages).

differs by 7 seconds compared with the log entry. Interestingly the is no
difference at the oldest file version.

That's pretty annoying. There is no way to say for sure This log entry belongs
to this version. You can say this with a huge probability but not for sure.

This also causes problems if you want to write Apps that should display one
user's uploads.

While writing MediaWiki:JSONListUploads.js on Commons, I had to convert each
MW-date to a javaScript date and then comparing each date not having more than
10s difference. Well, this works fine but other authors would be certainly
thankful if the timestamps would match and if one would be able easier to track
page-moves.

Some issues need to be fixed before I put this in:

* Don't split messages
* Use {{PLURAL}} in messages where applicable (where/was x message(s))
* Use Html::element to create HMTL, and definitely don't use stings with
backslashes in them
