I'm getting a similar bug while trying to edit a userpage subpage, with the
addition that it's blanking out the existing text. See
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Phoebe/chopo

1) edit existing text, all is fine.
2) move cursor below existing paragraph, attempt to type new heading
3) cursor jumps to above existing paragraph, types up there
4) this results in uneditable blank spaces
5) and, on save, all text below blank spaces is gone.

My conclusion is that editing user pages is, for whatever reason, totally
haywire. I have screenshots if needed.

JSON/XML will mirror available information in order to support interoperability
which means output formats will stay as close as possible. A content consumer

I don't see any use for the printrequests element in the XML format other than
just confirmation of the output part of the query. Consumers will know what
elements they are looking for and their XPath.

Maybe it would be easier to let the XML format diverge from the JSON format by
eliminating the printrequests element. I don't think the two formats need to
mirror one another element-for-element; the formats are too different. It's
issues like this that are already known to cause problems with JSON->XML
conversion.

Passing on a notice from Wikimedia Israel board member Shani Evenstein:

In the past two years Wikimedia, in collaboration with the Hebrew Wikipedia
community, has been expanding its Wiki-Education program. This Education
extension will greatly improve our work, which as of today is being managed
manually, in the academic university courses, in our Ministry of Education
program, as well as in other GLAM and education related workshops on editing
Wikipedia.

We will appreciate your support in allowing us to use this extension, as it
will drastically improve our quality of work, for both volunteers, lecturers
and students.

Discussion in the Hebrew Wikipedia village pump:
http://j.mp/112pCuc

(The green mark say "Support". There are no objections.)

Hello,

Anatoliy, we don't have a configuration possibility as granular. The project

See https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Manual:$wgSitename.

Where exactly would you want to see those déclinaisons of project names?

Place the cursor at the first position of some heading (before the heading's
first character). Hit Enter. As expected, an empty line appears before the
heading, but the cursor is unexpectedly advanced by one position and is now
located *after* the heading's first character.

[Bug 48846] New: Provide a central logging service for tools

Bug ID: 48846
Summary: Provide a central logging service for tools
   Product: Wikimedia Labs
   Version: unspecified
  Hardware: All
OS: All
Status: NEW
  Severity: normal
  Priority: Unprioritized
 Component: tools
  Assignee: m...@uberbox.org
  Reporter: t...@tim-landscheidt.de
CC: legoktm.wikipe...@gmail.com, yuvipa...@gmail.com
Classification: Unclassified
   Mobile Platform: ---

It would be nice to have a central logging service where bots and other tools
can log to. This would spar them dealing with locks, etc., and could provide a
nice web UI with filtering, sorting, etc.

This doesn't necessarily require enhanced privileges; a tool ("logger"?) could
be created that has a daemon that publishes its host and port at
~local-logger/.where-to-connect-to. Libraries would read that file, connect to
the daemon and log stuff there. http://tools.wmflabs.org/logger/ would have
the UI with CSV export, etc.

There are probably existing implementations that could (should) be adapted;
https://github.com/facebook/scribe seems to be one of them.

Open the VisualEditor on the page
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Paris_(1814) . The two images are
placed side by side between the lead paragraph and the infobox; they should be
placed below the infobox.

It appears that the VisualEditor generally arranges two images horizontally
rather than vertically, unlike the wikitext renderer.

If wikitext contains several empty lines in a row, hovering over those lines in
the VisualEditor will present them as uneditable elements. Since the
VisualEditor is perfectly able to create and remove empty lines, this seems
unnecessary.

Who said it was urgent? This bug was left for 7 months...

You should be using mediawiki.api for most of this stuff...

> Sajax isn't hurting anyone, so I'm all for keeping it.

That's not really a valid reason to keep something.

What is the exact proper replacement? Why is this so urgent?
Many social extensions, including, but not limited to, SocialProfile make heavy
use of sajax_* functions and I'm not a big fan of removing it just because
there's the ah-so-great jQuery. Sajax isn't hurting anyone, so I'm all for

--- Comment #2 from Rainer Rillke @commons.wikimedia

As **always** (and I included this many times, even in my bugzilla user name
but someone removed it):
Unless otherwise noted, I am using:

* The latest Firefox release (21.0)
* Language in the prefs: de
* Language translating to: fa (which is visible in the screenshot)

I did some testing and found that if the CSS resize-property is set to
*vertical* it shows correctly. And I am nearly sure that you wanted to set it
to *vertical* and not to *horizontal* because this is quite useless.

Here is the translate link:

Currently fixed properties [1] have to be defined within the fixed properties

Currently we have the parameter $smwgAdminRefreshStore which prevents to start
a data refresh via Special:SMWAdmin if set to false. However it is still
possible to set up the store as such via Special:SMWAdmin. I think it would be
very useful to be able to disable this functionality on selected wikis, too.
Still I can think of circumstances there on might want to disable setup, but
not data refreshs. Thus merging both in one parameter would not be preferable.

Dear Bugzilla

I am writing to inform you that the Pashto wikibooks project has been locked

As Andre said in comment 1: "I can confirm that Google Chrome 24.0.1312.69
feels sluggish."

I also, can confirm that Fx 22.0a2 is NOT sluggish, while Chromium 26.0.1410.43
IS sluggish (both on Debian).

So, again, a reasonable workaround for now is to use Firefox for etherpad lite,
but tracking down the real culprit (Chromium? Etherpad life?) should happen.
Does someone want to determine where the issue lies and report that problem to
the relevant upstream?

   Product: MediaWiki extensions
   Version: master
  Hardware: All
OS: All
Status: NEW

  Assignee: yaro...@gmail.com

When attempting to use the action=sfautoedit API either directly or via the
{{#autoedit}} method it fails with a 400 error and the following error message
is delivered:

{"errors":[{"level":0,"message":"Format json is not supported for content model
wikitext"}],"responseText":"Modifying From Here You Can See Everything<\/a>
failed.","status":400,"form":{"title":"Bookmark"},"target":"From Here You Can
See Everything"}

I assume this is related to the new content model work in 1.21.

Technically I cannot disable adding users manually to this group, but I've
added "DO NOT MANUALLY ADD MEMBERS TO THIS GROUP WITHOUT LEGAL APPROVAL" to the
group description.
I hope that is sufficient and an acceptable workaround, plus Bugzilla allows
(since 4.2) taking a look at user account histories (e.g. to see who gave
permissions to who and when).

As explained in comment 0, there seems to be a need that trustworthy Bugzilla
users (e.g. security group) can mark specific comments/attachments as private
without having to be part of the "admin" group, and the way I've set this up
now (see comment 0) seems to be an acceptable trade-off.

Again, thanks everybody for the input here! Highly appreciated and helpful.

This is where I thought legal approval would be needed. As long as people
aren't added to the privatecomments group without being a member of the admin
or security group, there shouldn't be a legal issue.

There are some bugs that are not in the Security product that have private
comments so people in the "security" group would now be able to see these
comments, but this is less of an issue to me.

I agree that admins are trusted, but if people are manually added to the
"privatecomments" group then they may need to be approved by Legal for the
reasons stated by Jarry above. Perhaps an email to admins letting them know
that they shouldn't add people to this group without legal approval would be a
good idea?

2013-05-26 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=48836

Admins have access to the Security product by default (as "admin" group
membership inherits membership in the "security" group), and people who are no
admins but members of the "security" group in Bugzilla have access to the
Security product anyway. So there are no people who gain this new right but
cannot access the Security product.

Members of the "admin" and "security" groups are automatically members of the
new "privatecomments" group, but people manually added to the "privatecomments"
group (none so far, and no plans to do so) do not automatically gain access to
tickets filed in the Security product.
In order to manually add people to the "privatecomments" group, a member of
either the "admin" or "editusers" group would be needed. And admins should be
trusted people anyway.

Does that sort out the raised concerns, or do I misunderstand something?

(And thanks for the quick comments here, really appreciated!)

Users who gain the new right but don't have access to the Security product will

I just did a sanity test after bundling and made sure it worked. More testing
wasn't done on my part.

I do not remember who requested LU -- me? -- but I did say it would be bundled
more than once. If there was a reason not to bundle it, there was plenty of
chance to raise the issue then.

Finally, I know there isn't currently support for bundling $RANDOM_EXTENSION in
MW, but I would like to get that problem fixed for most extensions.

I increase the number of people who can mark and access private comments and
attachments by currently 14 people (number of users in security group but not
in admin group) who are considered trusted already:
Admins can access these comments and attachments as before, but now also people
which had and have access to security bugs and access these.
Personally I don't see a need for legal approval here, but if there is, I can
easily revert this change.

Yes Santhosh, that is true. I had originally provided the table for the entire

with an idea of character set to be defined. I provided characters with virama
because, if there are joint characters, it should work.

[Bug 48837] New: Create branches in mediawiki/extensions/* for REL1_21

Bug ID: 48837
Summary: Create branches in mediawiki/extensions/* for REL1_21
   Product: Wikimedia
   Version: wmf-deployment
  Hardware: All
OS: All
Status: NEW
  Severity: normal
  Priority: Unprioritized
 Component: General/Unknown
  Assignee: wikibugs-l@lists.wikimedia.org
  Reporter: krinklem...@gmail.com
Classification: Unclassified
   Mobile Platform: ---

Looks like we forgot to create REL1_21 branches in extension repositories.
Though 1.21.0 was only released a few hours ago it is too late to branch them
from master since we've been in the 1.22 cycle for several weeks now (REL1_21
was branched from master in mediawiki/core a few weeks ago and released now).

Roan determined that the following commit is where master and REL1_21 diverged,
so we need to use that date/time to backdate the branch:

> $ git show 1f0fcc0f39211375f03e2e6e87fd5be179eff231 --pretty=fuller
> commit 1f0fcc0f39211375f03e2e6e87fd5be179eff231
> Merge: 1b2c997 0f475b4
> Author: jenkins-bot
> AuthorDate: Mon Mar 18 16:15:20 2013 +
Commit: Gerrit Code Review
> CommitDate: Mon Mar 18 16:15:20 2013 +
> In: master, 1.21.0

This was determined from `git log --right-only gerrit/master...gerrit/REL1_21`
and taking the parent (~`) from the last one.

For all extensions we should branch at the closest one before or at "Mon Mar 18
16:15:20 2013 +".

However, unfortunately the 1.21.0 bundle was created with the latest master
heads of the bundled extensions, so we need to make an exception for those
(provided by hexmode):

This was filed back in the day when they were commonish sight (Secure maybe? I

So this bug can probably be closed out if we really wanted, or just put

Classification: Unclassified
   Mobile Platform: ---

This problem came up in bug 48323 comment 4.

Current situation:

Marking specific comments and attachments in Bugzilla as private, and accessing
comments and attachments marked as private require membership in the
"insidergroup" group (which does not allow manual membership but can only be
set to another existing Bugzilla group).
The insidergroup group is currently set to the admin group in the Wikimedia
Bugzilla configuration.
General info: http://www.bugzilla.org/features/#private

Problem:

Sometimes trusted non-admin users want to hide a comment if it contains private
info. So far reports were moved to the "Security" Bugzilla product which is
unreasonable as the issue covered might not be a security issue and as it
blocks access to the complete bug report instead of the specific comment only.

Solution:

Create a new Bugzilla group "privatecomments". Make members of "admin" and
"security" group automatically members of the "privatecomments" group. (This
new group will also allow adding individuals manually to the "privatecomments"
group.) Set the insidergroup in the Bugzilla configuration to
"privatecomments".

$linkTrail = "/^([\x{0A80}-\x{0AFF}]+)(.*)$/sDu";

with $wgLanguageCode = 'gu'; it works.

[Bug 48835] New: Separate Cache-Control header for proxy and client

2013-05-26 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=48835

   Web browser: ---
Bug ID: 48835
Summary: Separate Cache-Control header for proxy and client
   Product: MediaWiki
   Version: 1.22-git
  Hardware: All
OS: All
Status: NEW
  Severity: enhancement
  Priority: Unprioritized
 Component: General/Unknown
  Assignee: wikibugs-l@lists.wikimedia.org
  Reporter: tstarl...@wikimedia.org
Classification: Unclassified
   Mobile Platform: ---

MediaWiki has traditionally used the Cache-Control header to control the CDN
(i.e. Squid reverse proxy), then the Cache-Control header for clients has been
specified in Squid configuration. Specifically, when a certain URL regex
matches, the Cache-Control header is stripped out and replaced with the
configured header.

This is not ideal, as noted by Gabriel in a comment in the original code. It
would be better if MediaWiki specified both headers in its response, so that
the URL regex and client Cache-Control header does not need to be maintained in
the CDN configuration. Originally, this would have required a Squid patch, but
now that we are switching to Varnish, the feature can be implemented with VCL.

Specifically, MW should send a Client-Cache-Control header which Varnish will
rewrite to Cache-Control as appropriate.

I should note that, at the time this bug was filed, that option didn't exist. I
think this bug can just be closed as RESOLVED FIXED, but somebody just forgot
to do it.

the Echo extension doesn't seem to have one. I'm not familiar enough with the

Status: NEW
  Severity: critical
  Priority: Unprioritized
 Component: PdfHandler
  Assignee: wikibugs-l@lists.wikimedia.org
  Reporter: ja...@thingelstad.com
Classification: Unclassified

There is a bug breaks *all* file uploads when using PdfHandler with MediaWiki
1.21. The exception is:

Detected bug in an extension! Hook CreatePdfThumbnailsJob::insertJobs failed to
return a value; should return true to continue hook processing or false to
abort.
Backtrace:

#11 /srv/www/mediawiki/public_html/w/index.php(59): MediaWiki->run()
#12 {main}

I'm guessing this has to do with the changes to the job queue in 1.21. I've
temporarily disabled the extension. This exception will be thrown for uploads
of any type, not just PDF uploads.
