As you said, there should indeed be a central function to get the page title
language and direction and generate the div/span container.
div/span containers with proper attributes are needed various places, so they
are a very basic sort of functionality.
I wonder, if we no should make them available in the wikitext context as well.
We already have something like {{lang|CODE|content}} as a template in very many
wikis.
Having only one central place for making those containers has advantages:
- less efford for editor
- easy maintenance
- possible to avoid unnecessary inner containers when language context is known
at runtime, while text writers / template coders may be unable to know it.
Shall we open an extra bug for this?

I'm using the commonswiki.labsdb server. I compared the speed with the Toolserver databases. SELECTs on commonswiki_p are very fast. I created a databases p50380g50518__heritage_p on this server. INSERTs seem to be very slow and sometimes seem to get stuck. I think some performance tuning needs to happen here. The program I'm using tries to do about 1.000.000 inserts. The whole program takes about an hour to complete on the Toolserver (when I last checked), on labs it's several times slower. Ps. But they belong to the Wikidata item Q278222, see http://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q278222 . If you want to merge two different Wikidata items you have to remove all links from the item with the higher number first. I don't have a problem doing this. But in this case this makes no sense because Ferropolis and Bucket-wheel excavator are two different things. They both need their own Wikidata item and should not be merged. There is still no bug around. I get this exception stack trace as my error code when I put a prefixed id for
property id in the set qualifier api module.
This needs proper error handling and such to catch this type of stuff. Bots
should not be able to cause exceptions like this.

Note that for the vast majority of editors who see this page, their first visit is right after account creation when they are given this page, in which case it does in fact start with Welcome. The use case of a registered editor visiting who is not in fact new is not very well served right now, since it's not the primary purpose. Obviously that use of Welcome back is confusing however. Ultimately we need to reconsider the page title altogether. When using the search bar on the WikiForum pages, I noticed it bleeds into the
new topic button.
I realized it was a CSS problem, so I want into the styles.css and modified the
following lines:
pre
/* Search box */
#mw-wikiforum-searchbox {
float:center
margin-bottom: 8px;
/pre
The original lines had float:right, which made the search bar bleed into the
new topic button. The 'float:center option puts the search bar above the
forum, which avoids the bleeding text issue and seems to be error free.
This is just my possible fix for this issue, but all of my tests show that it
works fine.

In fr:wikipedia running current MediaWiki I presume
on a laptop under Windows XP SP3 up-to-date
with Firefox v21.0 up-to-date
I tried to export articles as PDF using Special:Book, aka bookcmd (link in all
left columns)
Actually many notes references which were not coded in plain text of the
article but encapsulated in Reflist model as:
==References==
{{Reflist|refs=
ref name=refname1content1/ref
ref name=refname2content2/ref
}}
were NOT printed in PDF.
They are printed if the articles are printed by the web browser
Excuse me for bad English
Hope this question will result in a small improvement of the MediaWiki
