Hello Guys, Recently I started to use secure.wikimedia.org to surf wikipedia.
Why? because in my country they block CSS files and Photos from Wikipedia
pages. I was so glad to find about the secure.wikimedia.org but the pictures
didn't show up when I inspected the elements I found out that only CSS files
where directed to SSL pages, while the photos are still on non-SSL pages. I
don't know who should I talk to, to check it and make sure photos are directed
to SSL pages.

Any Ideas?

Have a nice day
Black Spider

I agree that this is a bug, especially given the inconsistency between
Special:Contributions/User and Special:Contributions?target=User.

On the other hand, I _can_ think of some few legitimate uses for having special
page subpages in the class name, like Special:Watchlist/edit,
Special:UserLogin/signup or even Special:Contributions/newbies. I
suppose we could always provide two class names, one with and one without
subpages.

Alternatively, we could leave the page-Foo classes as they are, and add an
extra class for special pages (maybe "special-Contributions"). This would also
be a good opportunity to use the canonical instead of the localized name.

Brion, I've not honestly tested it with a brand new account, so I'll set a new
one up and have a shot. The video was done at commons so I'll try and do a new
test account and run it through there. I do have several gadgets on, but
nothing at commons other than TinEye. I'll see where it goes. And for the
record, yes I do see this problem when not logged in.

Now...

(In reply to comment #5 by Mark A Hershberger)
> I count two OSes: iOS 4.0 and Mandriva. Is there a third?

Yes there is. If you refer to the text of the discussion which started this on
Commons Village Pump, located here:

http://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?title=Commons:Village_pump&oldid=48188606#Problems_with_standard_wikim.28p.29edia_text_editor

You'll notice that the OP, Jarekt, was on Windows XP with Firefox. So that
makes iOS 4.0, Mandriva and Windows XP.

https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=27106

Summary: Add component for tools to Wikimedia BugZilla
 Product: Wikimedia
 Version: unspecified
 Platform: All
OS/Version: All
Status: NEW
 Severity: normal
 Priority: Normal
Component: Bugzilla
AssignedTo: pdha...@wikimedia.org
ReportedBy: krinklem...@gmail.com
CC: innocentkil...@gmail.com, s...@reedyboy.net

Tools in here:
* http://svn.wikimedia.org/viewvc/mediawiki/trunk/tools/
..don't really have a good area on bugzilla yet. ([other] in MediaWiki
Extensions is not the right place for Commonist, WikiSnaps, adminlogbot or
wp-photocommons).

If there is enough activity perhaps it could become a seperate "Product" with
tools as components, but atleast some area for the tools is needed imho.

I'd suggest adding "Wikimedia Tools" as Component in Wikimedia, or adding
"Tools" as Product with the following components as a start:
* Commonist
* wp-photocommons
( since there are bugs for those at the moment )

Keeping it all under [other] of MW Extensions, or on-wiki talk pages is far
from ideal.

[Bug 27108] New: Incorrect handling of parameters when printing templates

2011-02-02 Thread bugzilla-daemon

Summary: Incorrect handling of parameters when printing

 Platform: All

Status: NEW
 Severity: enhancement
 Priority: Normal
Component: SemanticForms
AssignedTo: yaro...@gmail.com
ReportedBy: jeroen_ded...@yahoo.com
CC: wikibugs-l@lists.wikimedia.org

There seems to be an issue with removing previously used parameters from memory
before printing the next template, causing it to contain the last parameter of
the previous template for no reason.

The issue can be seen here:
https://0x20.be/smw/index.php?title=Meeting56&action=edit

Note the Subpages and MeetingNotes templates which both have a cost parameter
(while they should not), which is coming from the Meeting template.

This is occurring for both named and unnamed parameters, on both MW 1.16.1 +
latest SMW + latest SF and installs running everything from trunk.

Maybe it can be also called in but I'm not sure whether it will

You are not using the curl library correctly.

If you pass $message to as the value for CURLOPT_POSTFIELDS instead of
$query_data it will work.

curl cannot be expected to translate arbitrary PHP data structures into usable
POST data.

I recommend you use a HTTP client library (there are a few mentioned in
http://willnorris.com/2009/03/http-client-library-for-php or you can try
MediaWiki's own Http class (found in HttpFunctions.php).

[Bug 27111] New: Double layering ForeignAPIRepo's doesn't retrieve descriptions properly

2011-02-02 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=27111

Summary: Double layering ForeignAPIRepo's doesn't retrieve
descriptions properly
 Product: MediaWiki
 Version: 1.18-svn
 Platform: All
OS/Version: All
Status: NEW
 Severity: minor
 Priority: Normal
Component: Images and files
AssignedTo: wikibugs-l@lists.wikimedia.org
ReportedBy: bawolff...@gmail.com
CC: gpaum...@wikimedia.org, bryan.tongm...@gmail.com

Set up:

*Wiki 1 - $wgUseInstantCommons = true;
*Wiki 2 - Using ForeignApiRepo to get images from wiki 1.

Consider commons:Image:Example.svg.

Wiki 1 displays the description page from commons like it should.

Wiki 2 displays:
This file is from a shared repository and may be used by other projects. The
description on its file description page there is shown below.

There is currently no text in this page. You can search for this page title in
other pages, search the related logs, or edit this page.

-
Expected behaviour is for Wiki 2 to display the description page from commons.
At the very least it shouldn't display the no page exists text.

The quickest fix would probably be to do the same stuff we do for adding the
foreign description page on action=view, on action=render. A more proper fix
would probably be to fetch the description page directly from the right
repository.

[Bug 27112] New: select of revisions for stub history files does not explicitly order revisions

2011-02-02 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=27112

Summary: select of revisions for stub history files does not
explicitly order revisions
 Product: XML Snapshots
 Version: unspecified
 Platform: All
OS/Version: All
Status: NEW
 Severity: enhancement
 Priority: Normal
Component: General
AssignedTo: ar...@wikimedia.org
ReportedBy: ar...@wikimedia.org
CC: tf...@wikimedia.org
Blocks: 27110

In trunk, the query run in Export.php in dumpFrom() (used for generating stub
history files) is

SELECT * FROM `page` INNER JOIN `revision` ON ((page_id=rev_page)) WHERE
page_id >= 1157 AND page_id < 1158 ORDER BY page_id ASC;

Revisions don't get explicitly ordered. This results in the order changing
from one dump to another.

Example:

el.wiktionary dumps, page name υγεία, page id 1157, revid 1432 timestamp
2005-02-27T15:34:30Z either appears first in the revisions listed in the
stubs-meta-history file because it has the earliest timestamp, or 4th because
it's 4th if revisions are sorted by revid.

Smallest revid for that page is actually 1153 with timestamp
2005-02-27T15:34:45Z.

In fact the order seems to be chosen randomly depending on when the search is
run:

elwiktionary-20100401-stub-meta-history.xml.gz -- revid 1432 is first
elwiktionary-20100505-stub-meta-history.xml.gz -- revid 1432 is 4th, 1153 is
first
elwiktionary-20110123-stub-meta-history.xml.gz -- revid 1432 is first

Need to go through the code and make sure every such query has an explicit
order for revisions.

Also... need to find out why bigger revid has earlier timestamp (since in
theory revids get assigned in order as used).

[Bug 27112] select of revisions for stub history files does not explicitly order revisions

2011-02-02 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=27112

--- Comment #1 from Brion Vibber 2011-02-02 19:28:14 UTC ---
Note that mismatched ordering might really confuse the dump prefetching code,
which IIRC assumes a consistent order of (page_id, rev_id).

There are many perfectly 100% legit reasons for a later rev_id to have an
earlier timestamp, chief among them:
* import
* restore from deletion (for things deleted prior to rev_id being stored in
archive table, at least)

as well as mundane things such as server clock skew.

[Bug 27113] New: be able to restart history dump after breakage, from where it was interrupted

2011-02-02 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=27113

Summary: be able to restart history dump after breakage, from
where it was interrupted
 Product: XML Snapshots
 Version: unspecified
 Platform: All
OS/Version: All
Status: NEW
 Severity: enhancement
 Priority: Normal
Component: General
AssignedTo: ar...@wikimedia.org
ReportedBy: ar...@wikimedia.org
CC: tf...@wikimedia.org
Blocks: 27110

Dumping the page-meta-history file is the phase that takes the longest; when
some external factor causes the dumps to fail (a code push that breaks them,
network/db/power/space/other issues), they currently must be restarted from the
beginning. Even when they complete in 2 weeks instead of 6 weeks, the odds of
something going wrong in that time is quite high. Being able to restart from
the point of interruption would mean being able to produce them on a reasonable
schedule.

Code available: find last page id in file form interrupted run (works only for
bz2 files), by seeking to the end and walking through compressed blocks.

Code needed: stream this file to a filter which writes out the MediaWiki
header, writes everything up to but excluding the last pageID, writes the
MediaWiki footer; this output can be piped to bzip2 to produce an intact bzip2
file.

We can then run from that pageID to the end, take the two bzip2 files,
recombine them and be done.

Why can't we just find the truncated bzip2 block, toss it, and start from
there? Because at the end of a file bzip2 requires a cumulative crc algorithm,
which means rereading all the text the minute we want to add blocks at the end.

[Bug 27114] New: do we really need to recombine stub and page file chunks into single huge files?

2011-02-02 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=27114

Summary: do we really need to recombine stub and page file
chunks into single huge files?
 Product: XML Snapshots
 Version: unspecified
 Platform: All
OS/Version: All
Status: NEW
 Severity: enhancement
 Priority: Normal
Component: General
AssignedTo: ar...@wikimedia.org
ReportedBy: ar...@wikimedia.org
CC: tf...@wikimedia.org
Blocks: 27110

We run en eikipedia dumps by producing multiple stub and page text files,
instead of one huge stub file and one huge page/meta/history file.

Recombining these into one file takes a long time; for the stubs it's not
horrible, as these files are smaller, but for the history files it is extremely
time-intensive (2 weeks). We could shorten that for the bz2 files by working
on dbzip2, brion's parallel bzip2 project from 2008, but we probably can't do
anything to speed up the recombine of the 7z files.

Do we really need to provide one huge file for these things? Example: the
combined bz2 history file is around 300GB, the combined 7z file is around 32
GB. And it will only get worse. Are several small files ok? Maybe we can just
skip this step.

This needs community discussion; are the whole files useful? What happens if
we wind up running 50 jobs and producing 50 pieces? Is this just too annoying?
Is it better instead because people can process these 50 files in parallel at
home? Would it be better if we serve up say no more than 20 separate pieces?
Do people care at all as long as they get the data on a regular basis?

[Bug 27115] New: ETA for jobs that run in parallel is completely wrong

The ETA generated for page text dumps is based on the total number of revisions
in the project rather than on the number of revisions we are actually going to
retrieve for the chunk (which is unknown; we don't know how many revisions are
contained in the 2 million range of pageIDs we might be getting in one chunk
file, and we would be waiting a *very* long time for a select count(*) to
complete). Fix this to give some reasonable estimate.

Since it is private, we rather not change functionality of it unless they

When you select some words with whitespaces in the end / beginning and click on
"Link" or "Bold" or whatever, they are surrounded by the inserted chars instead
of beeing trimmed and appended outside of the replacement.

This feature had been provided by the old toolbar in with the function
checkSelectedText() in the http://bits.wikimedia.org/skins-1.5/common/edit.js,
but it just caught blanks.

Maybe I'm going to try to build my first own patch, but it would be better if
someone who already knows the code could do this.

The so-called progress bar that is produced by the dump jobs for stubs and

Is that related to/caused by bug 5440?

[Bug 24078] Re-point Wikimedia wiki logos to the local Wiki.png file

Rob, the problem is that many projects already asked in the past to have their
logos linked to the default location and had them reset during the Vector
hearthquake. Some of them even asked to have their logos *re*linked to the
local version and were told to wait until the migration was completed across
all the WMF wikis.

There's been a few offline discussions about how MD5 sums might relate to
performance, so I figured I better document my take here. At our current rate
of editing (if I'm reading the numbers correctly), we get somewhere on the
order of 10-12 million edits per month, which translates into a rate of
something like 5 edits per second. On my laptop, the built-in PHP function
(which is presumably
what we'd use) takes somewhere on the order of 2 milliseconds to compute the
MD5 sum of the built in American English dictionary file on my computer (which
is approximately 931k). This is all back-of-the-envelope stuff, so I could be
wildly off somewhere, but it seems like pretty negligible load given the
benefit of not forcing everyone else to compute these values downstream.

[Bug 25752] Add userrights necessary for bureaucrat role to bureaucrat usergroup on en.wiki

2011-02-02 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=25752

--- Comment #8 from xenocidic 2011-02-02 20:48:54 UTC ---
Since my new role means I'll be hanging onto +sysop for some time, I'll table
this for now, and perhaps revisit this in the future.

I still think that, at the very least, "move-subpages" and "suppressredirect"
should be in the bureaucrat package because both are strictly necessary for
carrying out renames. Surely I am not the first, nor will I be the last,
bureaucrat who toyed around with the idea of shuffling off the sysop coil to
quietly toil away performing renames.

Thanks for your attention to this.
