I'm not sure what the eventual license of the digitized documents will
be in. Just putting this news through here, perhaps the user group could
connect with Manful to learn more of the license, and see if can siphon
some (if not all) of the digitization content onto Wikimedia Commons.

Re: [Wikimedia-GH] Wikipedia Page

2017-05-17 Thread Ato Ulzen-Appiah
Hello everyone,

Based on what has happened since I last sent this email, here's some very
good info on creating Wikipedia pages.

I am also sharing here just in case someone has more info and can react to
some of what is below and educate us all.
I am also going to suggest Justice or whoever is in a webmaster role blogs
about this after we have great info.

   - Basically, Wikipedia editors don't need permission to run a page for
any notable Ghanaian or anyone else. Neither, is the goodwill needed before
   the page is created.

   - If it is found out that the one editing is associated with the person
whose page is being edited, it's conflict of interest and can be blocked
   from Wikipedia

   - Paid editing whereby people pay for others to edit Wikipedia pages for
them is not encouraged and more info is here. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/
   wiki/Wikipedia:Conflict_of_interest
   <https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Conflict_of_interest>

   - It is against the rules of Wikipedia for a staff person to be editing
a Wikipedia page of organization or individual they're involved in. Those
   found involved can be blocked.

   - Once the article is on Wikipedia every editor can edit the page so far
as they have reliable sources backing it. However, editors editing this
must not have a conflict of interest. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/
   wiki/Wikipedia:Conflict_of_interest
   <https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Conflict_of_interest>

Ato

[Wikimedia-GH] Wikipedia Page

2017-05-11 Thread Ato Ulzen-Appiah
Hello everyone,

I have a request for a Wikipedia page.
I just realised Adina Thembi Ndamse who won female vocalist of the year and
who sang 'Too Late' doesn't have a Wikipedia page.

Would anyone want to work on it?
I would put you in touch with her so that she provides all needed info.

I don't have a Wikipedia page either and would love to have mine also
worked on. :-)
I would provide info as well if anyone wants to work on it.

Thanks in advance,
Ato

What venue have they been looking at?

Hehe, well, on average, people in other countries tend to be more proactive
in Ghana.
Hence, I really like those those who are *proactive* in Ghana.

I should add that *reporting and communication* is another thing we
generally have to do better in Ghana. If anyone is looking for an example,
look at Sandister. Or just this awesome Google Doc
<https://docs.google.com/document/d/1uLVzinYqzVKtLgHU9_n-kuQjl7y4wd1U__mJ9TYhaYk/edit>

2016-10-18 Thread Ato Ulzen-Appiah
I totally agree with what Sandister said.

It doesn't help the community when Wikipedia related projects are run in
Ghana and at least this community is not involved. Especially when those
running the projects are aware of this community.

In that stead, I would also encourage Justice and co to google around a bit
for Wikipedia related events happening in Ghana to ensure this community is
also aware of everything.

If we want to go far, we must go together.

I just told all in attendance to search for "Wikimedia Ghana User Group"

But I believe a word to a wise 'is in the north' so those who really wanna
get going will get in touch if they really want to.

We can contact those who were at Barcamp Koforidua to ask who was in the

How have Wikimedia clubs been run around the world?
Is there central support from Wikimedia Foundation for such clubs?

Would be good to share best practices and info with these interested

Re: [Wikimedia-GH] Wiki GH Come together

2015-12-24 Thread Ato Ulzen-Appiah
My thoughts -

I will be interested to attend.

Impact Hub Accra & iSpace host small group meetups all the time. Or this
can also happen at a place like republic, eddy's Pizza, afrikiko, etc.

Re: [Wikimedia-GH] Wiki GH Come together

2015-10-29 Thread Ato Ulzen-Appiah
Just met Sandister at the,new iSpace.
Will be a great place to meet up. It's in Labone, near Bosphorus.

I think the leadership should decide on what the meetup is about,
discussing it too much here will delay planning. I think we all agree on
mixed activity.

The meetup should bring us closer as friends, colleagues & align us on what
the goals of this group are & what we want :-)
