Wikimedia Affiliates, members of the Wikimedia Foundation board and staff
as well as the FDC and AffCom, please save the date! As in previous years,
Wikimedia Deutschland will host the conference with the generous support of
the Wikimedia Foundation.

Today, we would like to share a few changes in the logistics and program
design process with you that should help us all in making this conference
even more productive and sustainable.

July 16, 2015: WMCON Follow-Up Day at Wikimania

Before Oct 2015: Follow-up WMCON15 and identify main themes for WMCON16

Oct 2015: Publish program themes for WMCON16

Nov 2015: Affiliates select their representatives according to the program
lines

Dec 2015–15 Jan 2016: Registration (hard deadline, no exceptions!)

15 Jan–29 Feb 2016: Arrange travel, hotel and visa

Please note that only thanks to the early registration, we are able to
properly incorporate all participants’ needs and input for the first time.
The registration closes on January 15, 2016. This is a hard deadline and we
will not be able to allow any exceptions. Please support us in making this
possible by choosing your representatives early!

Looking forward to seeing many of you next week in Mexico. Feel free to
reach out to me should you have questions or feedback.

Nicole

P. S.: We have just published the extensive grant report and evaluation
survey for this year's Wikimedia Conference. It is really worth having a
look, as it is not only visually appealing but also offers a lot of
substantial content that can be used by our movement partners and provides
learning opportunities for other event organisers and program leaders
alike.

Dear members of the international Wikimedia Community,

I would like to announce that Wikimedia Portugal’s General Assembly has
elected a Board, as well as other statutory positions.

The Board is now comprised of:

 João Vasconcelos – President

 André Barbosa – Vice President

 Cristina Couto Soares – Secretary

The official posts are compliant with legal requirements of Wikimedia
Portugal, as a legal entity. However, according to an internal regulation
change, the activity of Wikimedia Portugal will be coordinated without a
hierarchical structure, with neither fixed positions nor formal
 responsibilities.

Members are able to form temporary working groups for specific projects
and to collaborate in areas such as: Coordination, Outreach,
Communications, Computing activities, Treasury, Fund-raising and other
 actions.

Main coordination of activities will be made through an online
collaborative platform, which enables communication between members, such
as organizing tasks. I’ll oversee these activities as executive
 coordinator.

This platform should be publicly accessible for the purposes of
transparency, visibility of activities, and to encourage new members to
 participate in the Chapter activities.

 Regards,
 Joao

[Wikimedia-l] Your chapter, user group, or thematic organization at Wikimania

2015-07-09 Thread Romaine Wiki
Hi all,

Already some chapters and a user group have created a page for them on the
Wikimania 2015 wiki. There they list who come to Wikimania, what talks they
give, materials they are presenting, presentation of the organisation,
office hours, and so on.

An overview page is created at

[Wikimedia-l] Questions for Board QA

2015-07-09 Thread Jan-Bart de Vreede
Hi All

Next week the Wikimedia Board of Trustees will not only elect a new chair (and
vice chair) but we will also have our annual Board QA session at Wikimania on
Saturday the 18th of July). Although the session will not be broadcast live we
do want to take questions from the Board Noticeboard (and either answer them
during the session or attempt to on the noticeboard). From what I understand
the session will be streamed at a later stage.

Meanwhile, feel free to add your questions to:

PS: In order to avoid confusion I feel that it is useful to point out the “Role
of the Board” so that people are reminded of what we are responsible for. You

[Wikimedia-l] Innovation

2015-07-09 Thread Rogol Domedonfors
The 2015 Call to Action identified the need to Support innovation
new knowledge
* Integrate, consolidate, and pause or stop stalled initiatives.
* Create spaces for future community-led innovations and new
knowledge creation.
* Facilitate and support new models and structures for knowledge curation.
* Strengthen partnerships with organizations that use or
contribute free content, or are aligned with the WMF in the
free-knowledge movement.

Yet no-one at WMF seems tasked with driving innovation in the

That's a great start - thank you Rogol. Innovation often starts with
making connections and learning from friends - perhaps this can be a
collaborative page to share with partner groups like the OA, OSM, Mozilla
and ArchiveTeam communities.
