Re: [Wikimedia-SF] party notes
Hi folks, On the wiki, we noted another IRC meeting today at 11am. If you were planning on attending, please drop me an email, as we're going to reschedule. Re: [Wikimedia-SF] Hub availability
Quick followup: We're going to have another planning meeting tomorrow (Saturday) at 11am on #wikimedia-sf. Would be great if folks would join us; we need all the help we can get in planning this thing. =Eugene On Wed, Dec 1, 2010 at 11:05 PM, Eugene Eric Kim ee...@blueoxen.com wrote: In our Wikipedia 10th anniversary planning meeting this morning, we decided to do a one day event rather than two. I checked to see if the Hub was still available for either January 15 or 16. They're available on both days. However, they're currently unavailable on the evening of the 15th, although that event is not confirmed, so it may open up if we want to do a party there. They're free on the evening of the 16th. I'll put a hold on the space for now, so we should be good to go until we figure out everything else. I'm also going to see if they'll be willing to cut us a break as sponsors of the event. In the meantime, I recommend that we seek an alternative site for the party (we discussed some possibilities today). Let me know if you have any thoughts. Phoebe will be sending out some other notes on our meeting in the next few days. =Eugene -- == Eugene Eric Kim http://xri.net/=eekim Blue Oxen Associates http://www.blueoxen.com/ == -- == Eugene Eric Kim http://xri.net/=eekim Blue Oxen Associates http://www.blueoxen.com/ == ___ Wikimedia-SF mailing list Wikimedia-SF@lists.wikimedia.org https://lists.wikimedia.org/mailman/listinfo/wikimedia-sf

Re: [Wikimedia-SF] west coast wikiconference
Hi all, We're essentially six weeks out at this point. That's very tight in regards to marketing, etc., especially if we want people to travel to attend. So I think going with the smaller venue makes the most sense at this point, although we'll have to see if the Hub is still available. As for one vs two days, I don't think planning for a two day Open Space is significantly harder than a one-day, as you use the same caterer, the same space, the same facilitator, etc. It's simply a matter of fundraising. I'm up for a planning meeting this week. =Eugene On Sun, Nov 21, 2010 at 9:28 PM, phoebe ayers phoebe.ay...@gmail.com wrote: Hello all! As you all know, January 15 is fast approaching! And with it, the west coast wikiconference. I know there hasn't been much recent movement on this which is as much my fault as anyone's :) I'm assuming, however, that we're still enthusiastic about making this thing happen as a community :) So... ==venue and essential questions== * do we want a 1 or 2 day event? * do we want to stay in the women's center? (Eugene, what is our status with them?) Or, * given that we haven't done much to plan this thing, do we want to move into a smaller (cheaper) venue? (I am thinking the SoMa hub, which I believe is available during the day on Jan. 15, though not the evening: http://bayarea.the-hub.net/public/space.html. We were concerned about it being too small, but I'm not sure if we should worry about that at this point. I would like to get the venue confirmed by the beginning of December, no later. * Money: Eugene has offered Wiser Earth as a fiscal sponsor. If that doesn't work out, I will offer to manage the money for the conference, including putting the money up front for a venue deposit. ==planning meeting== I think it would be good to have an online or in-person planning meeting soon. I know next weekend is the holiday weekend, but what about on IRC planning meeting on Saturday? Re: [Wikimedia-SF] San Francisco Meetup 16?
Hey Jay, Check the wiki. :-) We looked into it. Price is right, but it may be too small. Capacity for an open space-ish conference is about 100, and it would be tight at that number. We want to be prepared for 150 at least. On the other hand, I think it would be a great party venue, and it would have a higher capacity in that situation. Plus, I talked to them about possible sponsorship, and they would definitely be open to that. Let me know if you want an intro. The space is really beautiful; I'd recommend taking a look. =Eugene On Mon, Aug 23, 2010 at 10:00 PM, Jay Walsh jwa...@wikimedia.org wrote: Hi all - I sent this around earlier to some other folks. I was talking to someone at city hall in SF today and they brought me up to speed on this place: http://bayarea.the-hub.net/public/space__Hub%20SoMa.html In the old Chron building (and environs) not too far from the office. Sounds like it might be an interesting space to try a meeting, or maybe even set up a regular 'collaboration' space. I'm not sure what the overhead is, or if there is any. The city is quite excited about promoting them. -- == Eugene Eric Kim http://xri.net/=eekim Blue Oxen Associates http://www.blueoxen.com/ == ___ Wikimedia-SF mailing list Wikimedia-SF@lists.wikimedia.org https://lists.wikimedia.org/mailman/listinfo/wikimedia-sf
Re: [Wikimedia-SF] San Francisco Meetup 16?
A good reminder: I followed up with both The Women's Building and The California Endowment, and updated the wiki accordingly: http://2011.westcoastwikicon.org/wiki/Venue The short summary: TCE is out, but The Women's Building is still in, and they have us tentatively down for January 15 and 16 (although we have to put down a $700 deposit to make it official). Steven, any updates on the East Bay Community Foundation building? =Eugene On Mon, Aug 23, 2010 at 1:01 PM, Cary Bass c...@wikimedia.org wrote: We need to schedule a meeting. I'll be there. If folks are interested, I can bring Pandemic. It's a great collaborative board game. Re: [Wikimedia-SF] hosting Wikimania?
2010/1/27 phoebe ayers phoebe.ay...@gmail.com: I researched this question out of curiousity last year, and the most promising venue seemed like UC Berkeley, with their blocks of dorms that they rent out for conferences. USF/SF State similarly have space. Someplace like Mission Bay is gorgeous but pricey. Phoebe, did you look at Fort Mason? They've got a beautiful space, a nonprofit rate, and there are places to eat and stay close by. Transportation is not the best, though. It doesn't have that collegial residency nearby, though, a feature that's been great at previous Wikimanias. =Eugene -- == Eugene Eric Kim http://xri.net/=eekim Blue Oxen Associates http://www.blueoxen.com/ == ___ Wikimedia-SF mailing list Wikimedia-SF@lists.wikimedia.org https://lists.wikimedia.org/mailman/listinfo/wikimedia-sf
[Wikimedia-SF] local strategic planning meetings
Hi everybody, I'm leading the Wikimedia Strategic Planning initiative, which we launched earlier this month: http://strategy.wikimedia.org/ One of our big goals is to engage as many folks as possible. There will be a bunch of global initiatives, and since I'm here in SF, I also plan on doing some local things as well. I'm planning a small, all-day gathering for our project team on Wednesday in SF, and would love to have a few of you join us. If you're available, drop me an email. If you're not, but you'd like to get more actively involved in general, or if you simply want to hear more about the process, let me know. Thanks! =Eugene -- == Eugene Eric Kim http://xri.net/=eekim Blue Oxen Associates http://www.blueoxen.com/ == ___ Wikimedia-SF mailing list Wikimedia-SF@lists.wikimedia.org https://lists.wikimedia.org/mailman/listinfo/wikimedia-sf
