[Wikimediaau-l] Outstanding grant request
Hi, I appreciate the current committee's new energy. We have a grant request dating to early October that Craig told us we had that we told the foundation about how great wm-au's support of the Paralympics has been. We're still waiting on this. It is really important because we believed the board member who told us we had it and acted accordingly in terms of spending. Did I mention, we've currently done almost everything we said we would do for that grant by now? Hopefully, the new board can be more responsive than the previous ones. If the board has contacted me about this in the past four weeks , I have not received the email. Please continue to follow up with me until you get a response as I said in a precious email a board member sent me about this before the elections, I have not received them. This is really, really important. Re: [Wikimediaau-l] [wmau:members] Outstanding grant request
For those of us not on the committee (neither this year nor last year), could you point us to the text of the grant request you're referring to? I'm assuming it's public given that you've cc'd both the general Australia list and the Chapter members' list. -Liam On 3 December 2012 15:12, Laura Hale la...@fanhistory.com wrote: Hi, I appreciate the current committee's new energy. Re: [Wikimediaau-l] Outstanding grant request
The committee was sent it. WE've been sending follow up e-mails pretty reguarly and have not gotten a response. I'm sure the board can share details. We were promised the money by Craig. I can tell you, that unlike the ARC research linkage grant, there are no commercial aspects to it and it goes directly to supporting the Foundation's mission. We are supporting on and building on the fantastic work that was done in London. Re: [Wikimediaau-l] Outstanding grant request
That may very well be - but if no one who's not on the committee knows about this request, and it's not published somewhere, then there's little advantage to copying us all in to the discussion since we don't know what you're referring to. Am I right in assuming that the request is not available for the rest of us to look at or did I misunderstand the issue? -Liam On 3 December 2012 15:56, Laura Hale la...@fanhistory.com wrote: The committee was sent it. [Wikimediaau-l] Fellowships
With the WMF possibly cutting fellowships, and our own strategic objective of taking responsibility for WMF resources in Oz, I think it would be possible to pick up the guantlet and include a fellowship in our FDC application. What themes would be good? Re: [Wikimediaau-l] Fellowships
I doubt the FDC will approve funding for a Fellowship program where we get to decide which application is most appropriate. That is regranting. Regranting programs tend to see applications mostly from the people near the inner circle. We might be able to succeed with a Fellowship program if we had fairly clearly defined boundaries, and think we have a very good chance of success if we have applications already published. I think we are better off picking one or two themes quickly, where we know we have a lot of potential candidates, and actively seeking applicants by direct messages on talk pages, emails, etc. etc. We could have applications published before the FDC due date (~1 March), with a decision to be made after the FDC due date - at least then the FDC knows what they are funding. -- John Vandenberg ___ Wikimediaau-l mailing list Wikimediaau-l@lists.wikimedia.org https://lists.wikimedia.org/mailman/listinfo/wikimediaau-l

Re: [Wikimediaau-l] WWI edit-a-thons
Having participated remotely in this year's WWI editathon http://uk.wikimedia.org/wiki/World_War_I/World_War_I_Editathonrun in June by WM-UK, I intend to participate in the next one. However, I would really like Wm-Au to be more widely involved, preferably with edit-a-thon(s) at the same time. There are many articles that need work, especially ones that go beyond the battles to say, the impact of the war and wider involvement in it. Australia's involvement per head of population, was very, very big. Also of course, the centenary is coming up. At the moment I am seeking out expertise, and there are resources and venues available here in Sydney. Of course, there are additional ones in Canberra. I would like to start planning for this. [Wikimediaau-l] The lawyer for John's COI
A board member has contacted me to tell me that while the funding proposal was there and Craig said we had this funding, the board has actually decided not to fund it. They did not bother to even vote on it. I was told I had it from a board member I had it. I got follow up e-mails about this, which I responded to. We would not have spent $12,000 on this if we had known the board had not indicated we had it.
