Dear Wikimedia India Chapter members and other interested stakeholders in
 the list,

 Dear members,

The Executive committee of Wikimedia India has held an emergency
teleconference on their official DSNL channel on 31 Aug 2014. As salient
items on the agenda, the following topics were discussed and decided upon:

 1. Earlier, Radhakrishna Arvapally, a senior chapter member and former
Chair of Bangalore SIG, was co-opted by an emergency resolution. The
resolution was passed unanimously. The resolution had also proposed another
senior member. However, due to heavy personal engagements, the second
nominee requested the EC to exempt from such considerations.

Radhakrishna was invited to the telecon and was officially welcomed to be
 part of the EC.

 2. Jayanta Nath, a senior Wikipedian from Kolkata and EC member, was
unanimously elected as the new President of the Wikimedia India Chapter.
Also, Radhakrishna Arvapally and Viswanathan Prabhakaran were elected as
the new Secretary and Treasurer of the chapter respectively.

 3. Any decision about hiring is kept on hold for now. The current EC
agreed together that the opinion of the new EC (emerging through the
upcoming general elections) should also be taken on-board for a major
decision like this, since they are the ones to deal with the newly hired
 candidate(s)for a longer term.

 4. Another extra ordinary EC Telecon was scheduled to be conducted
tentatively on 02 September 2014, 9.00 PM to take up other urgent matters
 pending for decisions.

This is for the general information for all chapter members and other
 interested stakeholders.

 Thank You,

 Jayanta Nath

 President

[Wikimediaindia-l] Farewell

2014-09-02 Thread Srikanth Ramakrishnan
Dear EC, Members of the Chapter,
I am not pleased with the way things are working out right now. The EC
passed a resolution to appoint a senior Indic language Wikipedian as the
Program Director on the recommendation of a four member committee
consisting of Jayanta, Sudhanwa, Moksh, and Naveen for a probation period
of three months, starting on the 1st of September 2014. Subsequently, the
newly reorganised EC has done every bit to prevent the appointment of said
person. It is with extreme displeasure that I have to state that this kind
of nepotism at the hands of vested interests prevents me from working well.
Due to this, I am resigning as an member of the Executive Committee with
immediate effect.

Sad to hear that you're leaving EC. Wishes for your life ahead!

May we know, what do you (or EC) mean by Program Director?

As per another thread on the list, Jayanta Nath is the new President
of Wikimedia India Chapter, and he informed that any new hiring by
WMIN is kept on hold for now. Could someone please clarify? Thanks.
Thanks,
Arnav.

Subject: [Wikimedia-l] Open call for Individual Engagement Grant proposals
To: wikimedi...@lists.wikimedia.org

Greetings! The Wikimedia Foundation Individual Engagement Grants program is
accepting proposals for funding new experiments from September 1st to 30th.
https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Grants:IEG

Your idea can improve Wikimedia projects by building a new tool or gadget,
organizing a better process on your wiki, conducting research on an
important issue, or providing other support for community-building. Whether
you need $200 or $30,000 USD, Individual Engagement Grants can cover your
own project development time in addition to funding for a team to help you.
The program has a flexible schedule and reporting structure, and
Grantmaking staff are there to support you through all stages of the
process.

Do you have have a good idea, but you are worried that it isn’t developed
enough for a grant? Put it into the IdeaLab, where volunteers and staff
can give you advice and guidance on how to bring it to life.
https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Grants:IdeaLab Also, IEG will be hosting
three Hangout Sessions for real-time discussions to help you make your
proposal better - the first will happen on September 16th.
https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Grants:IdeaLab/Events#Upcoming_events

For inspiration, you can read more about past projects
https://blog.wikimedia.org/tag/individual-engagement-grants/ that received
funding or review open proposals
https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Grants:IEG#ieg-reviewing. We are excited
to see some of the new ways your grant ideas can support our community and
make an impact on the future of Wikimedia projects.

Submit your proposal in September!

Warm regards,
Siko
