Youps, sorry, now that I have read the whole email, I realize my
suggestion was in fact already implemented.

Sorry for the noise.

Hi,

Thank you Niklas for this great news, I'm sure that I wasn't alone to

Now it's a rather large single piece of translation, around 17,000
messages. I think it would be wise to cut down this in several virtual
submodules on Wikitranslate, with chance that average user will face
the message as criterion. Surely "login" is more important than
"Aborted due to file upload failure. You can use $1 to skip binary
uploads." in order of translation order priority. :)

[Wikitech-l] Discovery Weekly Update for the week starting 2018-02-26

2018-03-02 Thread Chris Koerner
Good day,
I have a quick update from the Search Platform team this week. As
always, feedback and questions welcome.

== Discussions ==

=== Search ===
* We've added the possibility to do regex search on titles and it'll
be in production (with documentation) once we reindex. [0]
* Erik worked on various experiments with varying MLR training using
hyperparameter — it ended up having only some minor optimizations when
done [1]

=== Maps ===
* The Collaboration team will be improving maps with an engagement
lasting until June 2018. [2]

[Wikitech-l] Readers Monthly update for February 2018

2018-03-02 Thread Chris Koerner
Hello,
This is the monthly update from the Readers team at the Wikimedia
Foundation for February 2018.

As always, feedback and questions are welcome.

==Discussions==

=== Web ===
* TemplateStyles has been deployed to the Swedish Wikipedia. TemplateStyles
is a feature to make it easy to add CSS to templates without administrator
privileges. This allows for better adaptability to screen sizes, especially
on mobile where are half our total page views. If your community would like
to be the next to have the feature, please submit a task. [0] [1] [2]
* An update to user preferences on mobile web was deployed. The feature
allows users to better understand the settings - partially the Beta
settings. [3] [4]

=== Reading Infrastructure ===
* Released /page/summary 1.3. While the version change sounds like a simple
update it's a different implementation. Instead of TextExtracts it's using
the lead paragraph from Parsoid and does some things to it to shorten it.
There are also more fields. [5] For more details look at the spec. [6] This
is used by the apps link previews and on the web by Page Previews.

=== New Readers ===
* New Reader updates can be found at Meta. [7]

=== Multimedia ===
* The feature to upload 3D files to Commons has been deployed. [8]

Re: [Wikitech-l] Wikimedia Hackathon 2019: Looking for Proposals

2018-03-02 Thread Nick Wilson (Quiddity)
(Reposting without HTML formatting. :-)

Hello!

Is your organization interested in hosting and co-organizing the 2019
Wikimedia Hackathon? We are looking for proposals!

Details about the decision process can be found here:

https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Hackathons/2019_Decision_Process

https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Hackathons/Proposing_a_hackathon#Hackathon_location_decision_process_for_2019

Details about what it takes to organize a hackathon can be found here:

https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Hackathons/Handbook

https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Hackathons

CHANGES FOR 2019

We are open & encouraging to bids from anywhere, but locations
outside of Europe will be given extra weight as we are also holding a
hackathon at Wikimania in Sweden in 2019.

Focus areas will be defined much further in advance, however
participants can work on whatever they like related to Wikimedia Tech
/ Development.

This hackathon will be less heavily focused on newcomer
onboarding, which is much more effectively done on a smaller local
level. Instead,it is meant to be a well-facilitated and organized
meeting space for groups and most active volunteers in the developer
community to collaborate face to face, with appropriate representation
of Foundation, affiliates and volunteers to discuss the future of
Wikimedia technologies in depth. We will still aim for newcomer
support and onboarding for the local region where the event is held.

Ideally we will announce the host for 2019 by the end of April. If
multiple chapters or organizations are interested, we hope to work
together to figure out the the best solution.

Any organizations interested in hosting should please create a
Phabricator ticket and associate it with the Developer-Relations
project. Srishti and I are happy to assist in creating the ticket if
needed.

Examples: https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T162836,
https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T96826,
https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T127050

Include as much information as possible from: proposing a hackathon

Please email me at rfarr...@wikimedia.org with any questions or
concerns. The decision committee will comment directly on the
Phabricator task if any questions come up. I am not on the chapters@
list, so if there is anything that I should respond to, make sure to
keep me on CC. Also please forward this email anywhere you think it
might be useful.

Looking forward to hearing from you!

I believe that "500 (5000 for bots)" is a values-per-page limitation, you
can use continue param to fetch several consecutive pages.

[Wikitech-l] How to get all the page titles of a category from wiktionary?

2018-03-02 Thread Shrinivasan T
I was looking for a list of all Tamil nouns for long time.

Found that wiktionary has a huge collection of all nouns.

https://ta.wiktionary.org/s/30v
this page lists 24,750 nouns and

https://ta.wiktionary.org/s/4aa9
this page lists 60,553 nouns

How can get all the page names using quarry service?

I can not get all them using api as it has a limit of 500 for normal
user and 5000 for bot user.
Hope querry can be used for this.

I need the list of page names in the category பெயர்ச்சொற்கள் in

Please help on this.

Thanks.

It's now possible to translate Phabricator in translatewiki.net thanks
