Re: [Wikitech-l] New Gerrit privilege policy

2019-03-17 Thread MA
Hello,

Would still be
acceptable?

Creating repos also involve self-merging stuff (.gitreview files
mostly; also sometimes importing from GitHub).

Best regards, M.

Re: [Wikitech-l] UserMerge extension on Wikimedia sites

2019-01-22 Thread MA
Hello,

UserMerge as it is right now is unusable for Wikimedia sites, and thus no
user (bureaucrats, etc.) is allowed to use it. The extension is now up for
a Code Stewarship Review to decide what to do with it <
https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T204747>, and I am proposing to undeploy
the extension from WMF sites given those issues. That said, the extension
might work for translatewiki where there are no CentralAuth, FlaggedRevs
and many other features which tend to be problematic with UserMerge, as far
as I was told.

Regards, M.

I think Thiemo makes a good point again. As things stand now support
disabling/removing the plugin entirely from our gerrit install.

Thank you, M.

Re: [Wikitech-l] [Engineering] Gerrit now automatically adds reviewers

2019-01-18 Thread MA
Hello,

I agree with what Giuseppe Lavagetto and Jaime Crespo said.

In my case, I am now getting review requests from several repos I
contributed some time in the past, but for which I'm not a qualified
reviewer. The plugin is also adding bots to review changes such as in
.

While I think it is certainly a good idea to help people find
reviewers for their patches, I feel this plugin as it is now is going
to achieve the contrary (mail blindness due to too many emails).

I suggest we disable the plugin until at least Paladox's blacklist
could be implemented and so we are given the choice to opt-out from
it.

Thank you, M.

[Wikitech-l] Extension:UserMerge patch review request

2018-12-07 Thread MA
Good day,

I'd like to request a review on a patch [0] for UserMerge. The patch has
been sitting there for some time (with lots of reviewers added) and is
aimed at fixing an annoying logging issue (missing messages). There are
some reports already [1] [2] that this is affecting negatively non-WMF
wikis.

Could someone please take a look and merge if it's all okay?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Best regards, M.

[Wikitech-l] Thank you Tuesday

2018-12-04 Thread MA
Hi,

It's Tuesday (my timezone at least) and this week I'd like to thank the
following people for their work and assistance:

.- Martin Urbanec: For his tireless work in the Wikimedia-Site-requests &
Wiki-Setup Phabricator boards, and for his advice in several technical
issues. He does a lot of wmf-config work, and the result is that our
requests for site configuration changes no longer takes a lot of time to
get applied. Thanks a lot.

.- James D. Forrester: For his general work in MediaWiki core and
extensions, and for sharing its expertise and knowledge with us. He's also
willing to review my patches and I was never able to thank him properly for
all the time and advice he's dedicated to help me.

.- Raimond Spekking: For his work in translatewiki.net and his i18n
expertise, and i18n patch review activities. MediaWiki and its extensions
are a success in localisation thanks to his work, and that of Niklas and
the staff of translatewiki.net in general. I appreciate your efforts,
really.

.- Derrick N. Alangi: I'd like to congratulate him for his recent
mediawiki +2 access, which is using to actively review lots of patches
recently, reducing our backlog of patches for review.

Special thanks to the SRE and Security team for their invaluable work as
well. The same to WMDE for their technical advice regular meetings which
are very helpful.

Best regards, M.

Re: [Wikitech-l] Datacenter switchover and switchback

Hello:

>requested to refrain from large db schema changes and avoid deploying

>There will be a train freeze in the week of Sept 10th and Oct 8th.

Does this also mean that we should not deploy new extensions to wikis such
as Babel, Echo, ShortUrl or Translate (to mention some examples) where we
also need to create the relevant extension tables on the wiki in question
for them to work?

I guess also no new wiki creations will be allowed in that timespan?

Thanks for the clarification.

Regards.

[Wikitech-l] Stalled repository ownership request (April 2018)

2018-08-13 Thread MA
Hello,

A gerrit administrator is required to review and handle
, either to ask for
clarifications or close it one way or another. Repository ownership
requests take aprox. one week; this has been sitting there since April
without virtually no activity but pings for assistance. I think the
user deserves an answer.

Thank you, M.

[Wikitech-l] Renaming user rights in an existing extension - help and procedure

2018-08-09 Thread MA
Hello,

I'd like to request advice on handling a task at hand.

It results that Extension:ArticleToCategory2

is using some sort of old-fashioned way to name their user rights (ie:
ArticleToCategory2AddCat instead of all lowercase; or
ArticleToCategory2 which is somewhat confusing). I'd like to fix that,
but I was wondering if that'd cause undue complications in existing
installs and, if so, if it should go first via a deprecation process
or other process I am not aware off.

Thanks in advance for any help or advice you can offer.

Best regards, M.
