I'm definitely thrilled to see this coming together; should be able to
bring some folks out from SF for the awesomeness.

Mark, Tomasz and I will also be at FOSDEM in February (we don't have a
developer room, but there'll still be plenty of MediaWikians!), and
we'll be trying to put together an awesome Hacking Days at Wikimania in
Buenos Aires...

We're also hoping to run some local events in San Francisco over the
coming year, which I hope to be able to announce as we firm up plans.

Just as a thought: it'd would be fun to try and actively involve developers
who won't be able to attend the event(s). It's hard to coordinate the
meetup of people living around the world (both logistically and
financially),
so finding a way to bring the whole developer community together would
be even better.

I've mentioned this to a few people before, but the guys over at the
Wikipedia Weekly podcast have talked to me several times about
trying to coordinate a Developer's Podcast if you will. A chance for
us to chat, answer questions, that sort of thing. I couldn't think of a
better time to do one than during FOSDEM, Wikimania and/or a
meetup in San Francisco.

Anyway: FOSDEM is going to be a good place to be, and we will talk about
mediawiki (Brion even gives a presentation), but we will have a barcamp-style
developer event in april in berlin. Having both at FOSDEM would have been
 great,
but we didn't get the room, so that's how it is.

I hope scheduling our meet-up in berlin in parallel with the board chapter
meetings will help to get people together. Also, the c-base is a great place
 to
work and to party :) So I hope you'll all come and join us.
Exactly how Barcamp-style is this meetup gonna be? Does it include the
camping and stuff, or are we expected to sleep at hotels like at normal
conventions? I'll come if it's affordable (still looking into train
ticket prices), and if I do I'll prepare a presentation about the API.

Maybe some of the more prominent people could comment on whether they'll
come to Berlin? They don't just jump on a train to Berlin like us
Dutchies and Germans do. Also, I'd be interested to hear which API
developers intend to come, for obvious reasons.

Afaik, few bar camps involve actual camping :) There are loads of inexpesive
hostely and modest hotels in the area. we'll put up some suggestions in a few
days.

I had and still have no idea, just read the WP page.

That'd be nice. I just found out about some stuff about train ticket
prices, I'll put it up on the Meta page. And of course carpool
arrangements can be made, circumstances permitting.

Hoi,
Who says that the meet-up at FOSDEM will fail?? With people from the USA,
the Netherlands, Finland, Germany and Great Britain arriving with MediaWiki
on their mind, it can hardly be called a failed meet up. I am also quite
sure that if you want to talk about MediaWiki localisation and
internationalisation, this is the event for you. If you are interested in
the extension testing environment, FOSDEM is where it will be publicly
demonstrated.
Thanks,

 Hello All

 now
have the meet-up after our plans for 25C3 and FOSDEM failed. If you want to
 come
to the Developer Meetup, please sign up at
 http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Project:Developer_meet-up_2009.

The event will take place in parallel to the Wikimedia Foundation's board
meeting and chapter meeting, so there will be a lot of Wikimedians in
 Berlin at
the time. We plan to have a party to bring everyone together and give an
opportunity for developers, board members and chapter people to mingle.

The meet-up will be a loose BacCamp-like event so topics and schedule are
largely up to you. The goal is to get to know new aspects of MediaWiki and
Wikimedia and to develop ideas on how we can make things even better. And
 of
course to have a lot of fun with wiki hackers from around the world!
