2021-06-22 Thread Amir Sarabadani
Hi,
Lots of people thanked me for deploying mailman3 but I want to mention that
it would have not been possible without Wikimedia Cloud Services team
giving a lot of resources to me so I could have a test setup and puppetize
mailman3 easily which in turn made deployment to production much easier.

Thank you for providing such a critical infrastructure to us! Keep up the
great work.

It has been a while since we had Thank you Tuesdays but this one needs a
shout out.

Thank you Manuel for epic work of cleaning up more than one thousand schema

[Wikitech-l] Thank you Tuesday

2019-11-27 Thread Amir Sarabadani
Hey,
Since it's still Tuesday in some parts of the Pacific ocean, I want to
start the thread of Thank you Tuesday for this week [1] by thanking James
Forrester for working on improving production mediawiki configs that
reached an important milestone yesterday [2] This work is extremely
important not just because of migration to containers but also because it
makes our systems less prone to breakage. Thank you James.

[1] We haven't done thank you Tuesdays for a long time now, we should do it
more often.

Paladox, and releng, for all you do for maintaining Gerrit, Phabricator, and CI
so we can keep making so many needed changes to mediawiki and other

Andre, for sorting through hundreds if not thousands of tickets every day,

Finally, thanks to all the volunteers and staff that are constantly deploying,

[Wikitech-l] Thank you Tuesday

2019-02-18 Thread MusikAnimal
I'd like to offer a big thank you to the Cloud Services team for resolving
issues with VPS and toolsdb. It would take several weeks of "Thank You
Tuesdays" to adequately express my gratitude for your hard work during this
ordeal. Thank you Brooke, Andrew, Bryan, Arturo, Giovanni, our fine DBAs,
and everyone else involved!

As I said on IRC, I think the toolsdb outage is in a way indicative of
success. Maybe increased usage wasn't the true culprit, but the fallout of
the outage clearly shows how much we rely on Cloud Services. Also, tools
that I maintain running on VPS have had some 99% uptime since they were
launched (XTools going back 1.5 years), evidenced by a monitoring service
that I use. That's phenomenal. All things considered, a week or so of
partial downtime related to VPS hardware and toolsdb is not that
significant. Your prompt, tireless efforts to restore stability over the

The only downside to thanking a particular person is that it makes me think
of all the other people I didn't specifically thank but who I also
appreciate.

With that said, this week I'll thank Brad Jorsch (anomie) for spending over
an hour helping orient me on MCR Schema Migration tasks, when our meeting
was only scheduled for 25 minutes.

That information about the genesis of the code for signatures is very
interesting. I've included it as a historical footnote on the relevant enwiki
page
,
and others might want to add it elsewhere. These historical tidbits,
especially one that shows such a lovely human side to the practice of
coding and software development, can become even more meaningful over
time. Thanks, Magnus - and thanks MusikAnimal for asking the question.

(gathered by Nemo, thanks!).

The top +2'ers in MediaWiki core:

582 Timo Tijhof
475 James D. Forrester
406 Kunal Mehta
189 Aaron Schulz
174 Bartosz Dziewoński
164 Brad Jorsch

1365 Kunal Mehta
1153 Umherirrender
971 Thiemo Kreuz
705 Robert Vogel
626 Markus Glaser
595 Timo Tijhof

2017[3] - special shoutout to Addshore who reviewed exactly 51
MediaWiki core patches in 2017 and then again in 2018!

Hello Everyone,

I'm starting today's "Thank you Tuesday" thread with a big Merry Christmas to
all Wikimedia Developers. Wikimedia Developers are just awesome and they have a
way of doing with things (Computers + MediaWiki = Wikipedia).

I want to thank all developers in the movement that have helped me become
better at my contributions to MediaWiki and other related Wikimedia projects. A
short list below;

Legoktm, Reedy, Pmiazga, Jdlrobson, Thiemo_WMDE, Bawolff, Jdforrester, Krinkle,
Matmarex, Volker_E, Sklaporte, Hoo, Lydia_WMDE, Nikerabbit, Aklapper, Xqt,
Framawiki, QuimGil, Apergos, Amire80, BryanDavis and MaxSem + the *entire*
Wikimedia developer community.

See, the list is so long as over time, I've worked with developers that have in
one way or another shaped my way of doing things in the Wikimedia movement. The
list above is just a short list and I want to take today to thank all of them
for their awesomeness and for helping people get better at writing code in
Wikimedia. You are all awesome and I love you all!

Enjoy your Christmas / Holidays <3. Who do you want to thank on this special

Hi all,

it is another Tuesday, so I’ll start this week’s round of thanks :)

   - Thanks to Legoktm and everyone else working on MediaWiki code search
for this awesome tool! It is
incredibly useful to be able to search for all references to some code
you’re going to touch – I would feel much less confident doing any kind of
   cross-repo refactoring without it.
   - Thanks to Ladsgroup, Brian Wolff and everyone else who supported me
   getting +2 rights :)

Have a nice day,
Lucas

Thanks for doing this. The level of participation in the "What's making you
happy this week?" threads has been a bit disappointing, but I'm glad to see
this initiative for Wikitech-l which I think is in the same spirit.

[Wikitech-l] Thank you Tuesday

2018-12-04 Thread MA
Hi,

It's Tuesday (my timezone at least) and this week I'd like to thank the
following people for their work and assistance:

.- Martin Urbanec: For his tireless work in the Wikimedia-Site-requests &
Wiki-Setup Phabricator boards, and for his advice in several technical
issues. He does a lot of wmf-config work, and the result is that our
requests for site configuration changes no longer takes a lot of time to
get applied. Thanks a lot.

.- James D. Forrester: For his general work in MediaWiki core and
extensions, and for sharing its expertise and knowledge with us. He's also
willing to review my patches and I was never able to thank him properly for
all the time and advice he's dedicated to help me.

.- Raimond Spekking: For his work in translatewiki.net and his i18n
expertise, and i18n patch review activities. MediaWiki and its extensions
are a success in localisation thanks to his work, and that of Niklas and
the staff of translatewiki.net in general. I appreciate your efforts,
really.

.- Derrick N. Alangi: I'd like to congratulate him for his recent
mediawiki +2 access, which is using to actively review lots of patches
recently, reducing our backlog of patches for review.

Special thanks to the SRE and Security team for their invaluable work as
well. The same to WMDE for their technical advice regular meetings which
are very helpful.

Best regards, M.

[Wikitech-l] Thank you Tuesday

2018-11-20 Thread Kunal Mehta
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA512

Hi,

It's been a while since we had a thank you thread, so since it's
Tuesday, I'm starting one for the alliteration.

If you haven't participated in one of these before, it's simple - just
reply to the list thanking someone for what they've done recently...or
send them a private email, it doesn't matter how, as long as you say
thank you.

I'd like to thank:

RazeSoldier (星耀晨曦) for his great work tracking down and fixing PHP
7.3 compatibility issues.

Paladox for being on top of backporting bugfixes to REL1_31 and
REL1_32 branches.

And all of the GCI admins and mentors who are helping introduce new
students into the world of free and open source software.

Who would you like to thank?
