[WISPA] Wire Line Local Service Question
I keep hearing that you do NOT have to pay and have 'Interstate Access' on your local lines, that you can just have local service. Sprint is charging me $15.99 a monthand I never have toll charges-basically just have DSL and another inbound line for work. [And no, Rick cant service me wirelessly] Sprint says it is mandatory but I never believe what they say. Any one know for a fact what the real answer is? Walter W. [WISPA] CPE...Cat5...grounding
Ok, I am searching for cat5 with ground wire attached. How well do you think a coax would work to ground the CPE? http://www.computercablestore.com/detail.aspx?ID=2098 It's not like I am trying to protect it from lightning (good luck) I just want somewhere for the static to go. I could break off the coax at the entrance to the house and bang a 4 ft ground rod in and call it good. Thoughts? I have been looking for Shielded Cat5e with a ground wire attached for a long time also. I was thinking of calling belden and asking them what it would take to make it. Can't you just use shielded Cat5E cable to do this. We use it on all tower installs but not for CPE's. What do you ground the shield to? We are needing to ground the mounting arm. Plus, I would think that it would be hard to attach the shield to a ground rod plus this would require that the Cat5 be cut outside which is something we are wanting to prevent. If we had a Cat5 with an attached ground wire then it would be nice to cut the ground wire and attach both of the cut ends to the ground rod then the outside end would be attached to the mounting arm and the inside end could be attached to a Cat5 surge protector. I think that because Sprint owns the wire plant in your case, they have to charge it I thought the cases where they could drop those other charges were where your dsl provider's just providing dsl on a copper loop without phone service whatsoever... Well, I use a outdoor, shielded, flooded, cat5 with drain wire. About $80 or so per 1000ft. The drain wire is awg 24 or so, but, it serves the purpose of bleeding off the static charge and protecting the ethernet port on the radio and the computer/router. I have had no ethernet port damage on CPE's or towers that I have used this on and I am retro-fitting my existing towers with it. I ground it to the home electrical system at the power injector when used with a CPE. It is not very pretty, but it works. Even a shielded, flooded cat5 with messenger would work, but I have been searching for that for years with no luck. When I worked for a cable company, (many years ago), we had an RG-6 cable with a copper plated steel messenger line. It worked for overhead work as well as grounding.
