[WISPA] Web redirect @ hotel.

2008-03-06 Thread Mark McElvy
I had a hotel customer call me and the corporate office is requiring
that after a customer connects to Internet, wired or wireless, they get
redirected to a terms and conditions agreement page the to a corporate
portal page. Currently the have wired access only and are not using
hotspot or logon of any kind. Also the are running Mikrotik on a RB532
as the router.

[WISPA] TrangoLink Giga

2008-03-06 Thread Marty Dougherty
Has anyone deployed these @ 18Ghz that is willing to give feedback? We
are wondering if they are beyond the initial bugs and are stable enough
for some important links.

Any feedback would be great! Thanks.

Re: [WISPA] TrangoLink Giga

2008-03-06 Thread Brad Belton
I believe we have one of the first units in the field. I was told it was
#7. Had a couple initial bumps with the gear during the installation, but
nothing Trango wasn't able to resolve overnight for us.

So far we've only had one issue with the gear not passing data. No idea
what caused it, but a soft reboot resolved the problem. Since then Trango
has upgraded the firmware of this link for us and we haven't had any
problems. Not sure if you noticed the radar activity in the DFW area right
now, but it's been pretty red everywhere for a good part of the day and the
GigaLINK has been singing along without so much as a blip. The gear has
been up since mid-late last year.

Best,

Brad

$100 per month plus service to 1 city building per tower. Like Marlon, ours
started out at $1500 per month too - had a consultant tell them it was
worth that. They wouldn't go for the complete trade. $100/mth includes
ground space if we decide to put up our own shelter or enclosure outside of
their gates.

We have trade with another public water district though.

have with cities for their water towers and how much are you paying? I'm in

A bit of cleverness with the Mikrotik hotspot package should get you
what you're looking for. Make sure everyone on that network has to go
through the Mikrotik system (make it the network-wide DHCP server, for
instance), so it can keep track of things. If you're adding wireless APs
at the same time, you can either have them act as DHCP relays, or just
make them transparent bridges so guests are still talking to that
central router on the IP level. The latter is probably simpler, and in a
small-scale setup like this the bridging shouldn't cause any problems.

Users who aren't logged in can be forced to a certain page (the login
page in Mikrotik parlance), which can display the TC. After they log
in (make it a simple 'I Agree' button, and internally use MAC
authentication), just redirect them to the company portal page. They'll
be logged in at that point and can browse freely.

[WISPA] ISPCON

2008-03-06 Thread Rick Harnish
Everyone,

HYPERLINK http://www.ispcon.com/ISPCON is rapidly approaching even though
winter seems to keep coming. WISPA is planning a “WISPA Powered” track with
a full slate of speakers at this event. This is one of two Wireless tracks
at ISPCON. WISPA will also be holding our WISPA Reception on May 13th at
6:30 pm. This event will be sponsored by HYPERLINK
http://www.imagestream.com/Imagestream and HYPERLINK
http://www.powercode.com/Powercode.We are also planning a WISPA “Jam
Session” this year and will invite attendees who are musically talented to
bring their instruments and play to everyone’s enjoyment. This event will
be sponsored by HYPERLINK http://www.mikrotik.com/Mikrotik.

Being in Chicago this spring, we expect a very good turnout of vendors and
operators. We are planning accordingly as last fall’s reception had an
overflow of attendance into the hallway. We are asking for a larger room
this time to accommodate a larger expected crowd given the more centrally
located venue of Chicago.

I will be accepting WISPA Shirt orders again this year. I plan on making
the order on April 20th and need to have all orders in by April 15th.
Please send me your shirt size, color and number of shirts by this date.
These will be a nice button down dual blend shirt with the WISPA logo
embroidered. I have considered adding ISPCON Chicago 2008 below the logo if
enough people desire it, so let me know. Assuming there have been no price
increases, I anticipate the cost of the shirts will be $42 picked up at the
show or $47 if shipped to your location.

We will hold a raffle again this year and I have asked vendors to consider
donating door prizes for this event at our reception. We hope many of you
will consider attending this spring as we feel you will definitely get your
money’s worth. I would like to get an idea of how many WISPA readers and
members will be in attendance, so please RSVP ASAP so that we can begin to
get an idea on the head count planning on attending. Please let me know how
many people from your company will be there.

Last fall, many vendors donated some very nice door prizes including
HYPERLINK http://www.alvarion.com/Alvarion with a Full B100 link listing
at $7990. Many thanks to all the vendors who participated last fall and to
Patrick Leary and Alvarion for their very nice doorprize.

Respectfully,

[WISPA] Weird Tranzeo problem...

2008-03-06 Thread Blair Davis
Hi all...

Recently, I am having a problem with the Tranzeo CPQ CPE radio's passing
traffic when associated to a Hermes I, (Lucent PCMCIA based) or a Prism
2.5, (Senao MP2511 based) AP. They will associate and show good signal
quality, but they have high and variable latency, very high, (80%+)
retransmission rate, and next to no thruput.

If I take an old Tranzeo CPE-200 or a Linksys WET-11 or a Lucent EC, it
works fine.

Tranzeo claim there is a known issue with Atheros clients connecting to
these older AP's, but I have Atheros based PCMCIA cards in laptops that
work just fine with them.

Has anyone else had this or a similar problem? And if so, is there any
work around?

Thanks...

Holy crap! I just went to ispcon.com to check out how much it costs. It's
$700. Does that even come close to being worth it? Who is going?

  Everyone,

HYPERLINK http://www.ispcon.com/ISPCON is rapidly approaching even
though
winter seems to keep coming. WISPA is planning a “WISPA Powered” track
with
a full slate of speakers at this event. This is one of two Wireless
tracks

I have considered adding ISPCON Chicago 2008 below the logo
if
enough people desire it, so let me know. Assuming there have been no
price
increases, I anticipate the cost of the shirts will be $42 picked up at
the
show or $47 if shipped to your location.

We will hold a raffle again this year and I have asked vendors to consider
donating door prizes for this event at our reception. We hope many of you
will consider attending this spring as we feel you will definitely get
your
money’s worth. I would like to get an idea of how many WISPA readers and
members will be in attendance, so please RSVP ASAP so that we can begin to
get an idea on the head count planning on attending. Please let me know
how
many people from your company will be there.

Last fall, many vendors donated some very nice door prizes including
HYPERLINK http://www.alvarion.com/Alvarion with a Full B100 link listing
at $7990. Many thanks to all the vendors who participated last fall and
to
Patrick Leary and Alvarion for their very nice doorprize.

2008-03-06 Thread Blair Davis
I've had no problems with the xr5 card on 532A, 532, 230 and ATX-x86.
Connected to xr5,sr5 and cm9 as clients.

All are 2.9.46 software.

Only used the xr2 in my Locustworld Mesh Pro AP's.but as long as the
power supply is big enough, I've had no problems with it.

We have run into this same problem with prism AP to Tranzeo CPE.A
majority of our Aps are Prism's and we are installing almost all new
customers with tranzeo CPEs. A majority of them work just fine, but every
once in a while we will have a problem install. We have started stocking a
small inventory of prism based cpe equipment for those problems.

I have had other vendors admit the same issue.
