Re: [WISPA] Puerto Rico assistance

2017-09-26 Thread Brian Webster
Daniel,

I am heading up the WECAT response for this. Please send me an
email to bwebs...@wirelessmapping.com. Gino Villarini is a large WISP on the
island who has requested help. The problem is logistics right now. His
replacement equipment is still stateside and we are working on ways to get it
to him. He has asked that I coordinate the manpower resources and response.
There are no scheduled commercial flights to the island yet. Until he gets the
equipment there,. Having people show up is not prudent. He is working on a
detailed manpower list for me once that equipment hits the island.

Thank You,

Brian Webster

Back in 2005 Mac Dearman had organized some relief for the gulf coast after
Hurricane Katrina -- I believe it was under an organization called
RadioResponse, which I'm not finding much on now.

I spent several weeks with them in Mississippi helping set up phones,
communications, and computers for several of the shelters and helping some of
the local WISPs get back on their feet.

Does anyone know of anything similar for Puerto Rico? I don't have much for
resources but do have an authorized climber certification and a strong
electrical, mechanical, network, and WISP background that I'm sure could
benefit any similar effort if there is one.

Thanks,

Dan

With Powercode we take off the "montly internet service" which enables them
to have Internet, speed rating, etc and then add a "monthly service" which
does all the normal billing stuff but doesn't add any Internet speed

Either its on or not.. they can change plans, but that’s about it. I would
not offer a off package, cause then you are not getting anything. I understand
the reason, but that is what DSL or cable would do, its either a package or its
off. And its only off it you are out of term.

Re: [WISPA] [Wisp] Accounting Software to Replace PC Based Quickbooks

2017-09-26 Thread John Von Stein
We have been using QBO for about 4 years when we converted from a PC based QB
version. We use QBO for PL, B/S, Payroll and Invoicing.

QBO was really immature and very buggy at first but I have to admit that it has
settled in nicely since 1Q 2016. We set up a sister company on Zoho Books to
get some side-by-side experience with it vs. QBO ... the basics are all there
in ZBooks but QBO just works better/easier IMHO.

Mind you, there is nothing, repeat, nothing quick about Quickbooks in the setup
phase ... you really need to get your product/services set up correctly,
expense accounts sorted so you can do Product Line PL, etc. Once done
then it's relatively easy to have bookkeepers / staff trained create and
process transactions correctly ... and have your financials be meaningful as a
result.

Not asked but related info is Intuit Merchant Services - they won't take any
company defining themselves a telecom company. However, they will take IT
Services companies, Engineering or other Professional Services firms, etc.
Their credit card processing rates are almost 2x what you can negotiate with a
good bank or independent cc processors but it is convenient to have a "Pay Now"
button on the QBO invoice. We actually don't allow cc transactions via Intuit
Merchant Services but we do allow customers to pay via ACH via the "Pay Now"
button which are free from Intuit Merchant Services. The only bad thing about
ACH is that the only details you get about the ACH deposit is what the person's
name is that authorized the transaction ... no invoice number, no customer
name, ugh. QxC is 99% commercial accounts so the person's name is very often
meaningless to us, we need a customer name or an invoice number. I have
submitted this as an enhancement request but am not holding my breath.

Thank you,

I used to do the same with quickbooks until we moved to Zoho 2 years ago.
We use the Zoho suite for virtually all our back office operations. It's
remarkably affordable, scalable, and flexible. And it has a big enough
ecosystem that you find or develop whatever custom stuff you'd like.

*Books *handles all accounting (it's like QBO)
*Expense *manages our expense reporting (linked to Books)
*Subscriptions *handles all our monthly recurring billing and customer
portal
*CRM *for our sales and lead processes
*Campaigns *for email marketing
*Desk *for our care/ticketing system

We use *Zenefits *as our HR/benefits platform and are about to transition
Intuit Payroll to Zenefits, to get rid of one more disparate system.

We use QB desktop 2016 version for everything except processing credit
cards. Learned quick I did not want Intuit to control my credit card
deposits. We work with an online bank, Propay.com for our credit card
needs. They note they work with internet providers and have been very
good.

https://www.propay.com/en-US/Industry-Solutions/Internet-Service-Providers

We use QB for monthly invoicing and work with local accountant to manage
reconciliations of expenses and payroll to be sure all is correctly
entered. I have heard Freshbooks is good, but the pain to change is more
than I want to mess with and QB desktop is paid for and does not add a
monthly expense I have to carry with the online version.
