[WISPA] Thank You WISPA Board
I would like to personally thank the Board of WISPA for the effort, concern and passion displayed this week in St Louis at the Regional WISPA show. The team has increased membership and taken this industry to a whole new level with this successful conference. I believe we took another positive step forward by naming Rick Harnish as the Executive Director of WISPA. We all have a lot of confidence in Rick and his ability to organize and move this organization forward in a professional manner. For us to get the attention that we deserve in Washington DC, we need to continue to move forward with a single message with a professional approach and having someone focused full time, I believe we can achieve our goals as an industry. I appreciate what Rick has done for this group since its inception and look forward to where we will go in the future. I remember back to 2003 when John Scrivner, Matt Larsen, Marlon Schaffer, Rich Harnish and Mac Dearman began discussing organizing a group that would truly represent the WISP ownership instead of being vendor driven. The leadership of this group, and many others still involved in WISPA, has taken this industry into the light of the FCC and is now leading the vendors to create the radios, management software and new product development that is needed for WISPA to compete. Congratulations to each and every WISP group out there today serving customers with the much needed broadband services. I understand that we have broken the 400 + mark in WISPA membership and impressed FCC Director Julius Knapp with the attendance at this conference. If you are a WISP and have NOT joined WISPA yet, now is the time to do so. We need everyone in this industry to be actively involved so that we can continue attract the attention in Washington DC that is needed. We could not be where we are today without the leadership and legal counsel of Steve Coran. Steve continues to represent us well and has brought attention to our industry. It is so nice to have legal counsel that "gets it" and understands our industry so well. Because of Steve, I will curb all of my "lawyer jokes" and change them to only "politician jokes"! :) There are so many others that need to be recognized for their tireless work and dedication such as Jack Unger, Doug Karl, Brian Webster, Dave Giles, Charles Wu, Victoria Proffer, Jim Patient, Michael Delp, Dennis Burgess, Butch Evans and WAY too many more to mention. (I always hate to start putting names into an email because I am SURE that I have left some very important people out.) Please forgive me for not putting your name in this email. This is a time for our industry to sit around the campfire and join Matt Larsen in a rousing chorus of "Kum-by-yah" (with his words of course). This is the time to join together and recognize where we have been and look to the future of where we are going. We have some new faces running for the WISPA board and that is VERY encouraging to see people volunteering to lead our group. Don't forget to take time to vote this week if you haven't already. Here is the link one more time: http://vote.wispa.org/ I don't post very often and I know that I have rambled on long enough. Thanks again to the WISPA Board for putting this event together and if you didn't come, you missed a GREAT opportunity. I hope to see you all again in November in Dallas, Texas!! Re: [WISPA] Thank You to WISPA - Education Network in Honduras
It is good to see WISPA doing things to make a difference. This is one project I did not even know we had been part of as an industry association. I am elated to hear that our group helped out in this. I had no role in this myself at all but I feel very much tied to WISPA and our collective efforts so thanks to all of you involved on doing something positive to make this a better world for us all. [WISPA] Thank You to WISPA - Education Network in Honduras
Hey All, I wanted to thank the WISPA community for being quite helpful and generous. I have been leading a team to implement/replace an aging wireless network in Honduras for three schools and their volunteer homes. It has been a long year and a half, but it has paid off. They had 9 locations, 800kbps-3mbps throughput, 100-400ms latency, and +20% loss. Now they have: 9 Locations, 12mbps throughput, 1-4ms latency, between 0-2% packet loss at the schools, and 1-10% packet loss at the volunteer homes. In the year after our April 2009 assessment trip we spent time planning, designing, and running dry runs, we still had to adapt to what was 'on the ground.' It was a challenge properly grounding our 40meter tower, installing the equipment at the various locations, battling contractor costs, freak lightning storms, and a last minute show stopper with routing loops. In the end the schools have a better platform for education & technology, and we hope to support them through the entire process of technology in the hands of the kids. I will be presenting the implementation story to a local user group here in Southern California, I will have the presentation recorded if you all are interested I will make the link available. As promised I have some implementation pictures to share. http://picasaweb.google.com/israel.lopez/HondurasAllPics# This was one of the first Wireless projects with Engineers Without Borders, we are quite proud of the people that have volunteered to help remotely, and in country. I personally would like to see more Technology Engineering projects in developing countries, so if you think you can help, visit one of your local EWB Professional chapters, talk to them, see if technology may be something their communities may need. http://ewb-usa.org/chapters.php. In support of technology projects/professionals in EWB I have created http://EWBTechies.org if you become a member, please join and let us know how you want to help! Special Thanks goes to: Ubiquiti Networks - Donated some radios & helped us RMA a unit right before we left LAX WLANMall.com - For the WiSPY 2.4x that we won for our school Western Digital - Donation of USB Hard Drives for Backup of our Servers & Critical Data Thank You, Israel Lopez WISPA Wants You! [WISPA] Thank you John Reed
John Reed, I own a WISP operation in Southern Illinois called Mt. Vernon. Net, Inc. http://www.mvn.net/. I just want to drop you a thank you note for your work that has helped build an industry in the United States. I worked with Marlon Schafer and hundreds of others to help create the WISPA trade association for the WISP industry. Marlon just shared with us how much your efforts have helped us to have the regulatory rules in place that helped us build an industry. I want to say thank you for your efforts at the FCC. My livelihood is directly related to the work you have done. I serve the broadband needs of a community college, a high school, the City of Mt. Vernon, Illinois and nearly 1000 rural businesses and residents. We built our network using equipment allowed under Part-15 rules that you helped create. This week we are launching our first WiMax network in 3650 MHz using our national license we received for $210 filing fee to the FCC. This is the next generation of what you started. If you are ever in Mt. Vernon, Illinois then let me know and I will buy you a meal and talk to you about what the American Dream is from the perspective you helped create. Thank you for helping me build my business and for WISPs to have an opportunity to be the true third pipe of bnroadband in the United States. Warmest regards, John Scrivner President - Mt. Vernon. [WISPA] THANK YOU
Dear WISPA friends, Thank you for your prayers that you have lifted up to God for me and my family this past week. I know that they have been answered because the massive void in my heart and life has been comforted during this unexpected and tragic loss of my wife Sherianne. I expect there will be a more difficult road ahead, but I know God will not allow anything to be placed before me that He and I can not get through. My heart is sadden by this loss, but my faith is strong and I believe in the Words of the Almighty. I know He is just and righteous and will keep His promise. Sherianne knew this as well and lived the life that He describes and desires from us all. Enjoy the time you have with your loved ones because in a blink of an eye they can leave this side of eternity. Sherianne has gone on to a better place, where there are no tears, no pain, no sorrow. I am comforted (2 Cor 1:3-4) to know that I will see her again by staying faithful to and trusting in our Creator and Father in Heaven. Thank you for your continued prayers while I try to get some routine back into our life. I hope to see you all soon. Best regards, Jeff Would you like to see your advertisement here? [WISPA] Thank You
I just want to say Thank You to all of the hard working volunteers that are out in the field working hard to help the suffering evacuees. Your work is not going unnoticed! I wish I was down there helping you but right now my place is here in the back office. Hopefully, next week I will get escape and come help. We recognize that you are working in some pretty miserable conditions, sleeping in tents, not having adequate bathing facilities and the other comforts of home that many of us are still enjoying. God Bless all of you and be safe, please be safe. I also want to thank all the ladies and churches that are providing meals and support to these volunteers. We are doing some very important work here and we are getting noticed. Most importantly, the evacuees that are being “turned on” to the Internet and VoIP phones are grateful beyond belief. I only wish I could see some of those people now. It has to be hard to deal with their depression, but it must bring you great satisfaction when you see someone make contact with a lost loved one on the infrastructure you are building. Please send Steve Stroh pictures and stories from the field. He is our designated press agent and he is looking for good material to write about. We want success stories, challenges, human interest stories and more. Take some time and drop Steve an email. His email address is [EMAIL PROTECTED]. If you have a blog, please send him the link. Record everything you can down there, these memories will last a lifetime, not only for you but also on the lives you touch. In gratitude!
