In Louisville I hear them affectionately called US Clueless. The name really caught on a few years ago as they announced and subsequently deployed a new technology 900 MHz system and spent tremendous dollars and made lots of noise both publicity and in rf spectrum, I think I remember hearing around 500K for the phase 1 roll out. After a couple of front page spin articles in the Courier Journal, came the third, a picture of an engineer on the roof at their transmitter and a caption below saying it isn't working as well as we had hoped. You can't buy better coverage. With that said, I know some of the folks leftover from the days of Darwin that ended up at US Wireless and wish them well. A press release from 2003 discussed 500 enterprise customers. Surely those numbers changed since their 2005 buying spree, 8 or 9 companies that included Iskywire, VOIPWorks, United Broadband Networks, and Yyireless1 Net that I can remember. As Mr Leary said another post a conglomeration. In watching this unfold for the last 10 or more years, the lesson I've learned is that all the spin, money, and high level partnerships and contacts you have, or even the products you buy, won't make a lick of difference if you never execute a business plan and actually make money. Who says the guy on the front side of the paycheck isn't making money? The more I see what goes on out there, the more I'm convinced that some people are just really good at spending others money. It doesn't matter if they turn a profit or not, as long as those original funders get their money back out, no one cares about the rest of the investors. Think about it, given the chance, how many of us would take on a job that could put a million or three in our bank accounts even though, in the end we knew we were destined to fail. Guys like me will try to talk the money people into a better idea, some out there though, will say Sure thing, I'll get right on that project! I think the stock market and the futures markets are two of the most sinister industries out there. They manipulate far more of the average person's life than they ever should. Retire to me, sounds like they paid of the $3.5M, not cheated someone out of it. Of course, seeing it is a publicly traded company, those who bought their stock at much higher price at IPO, on speculation, and thats what it really is, speculation, are the ones who took the bath. I don't really see anyone getting cheated, at least in the conventional way. We all should be so lucky to get to play in that game. RE: [WISPA] US Wireless Online Sells 50.1 Percent
U.S. Wireless Online is a conglomeration. Originally it was started by buying at bankruptcy the assets of late firms like Darwin Networks. A few years later they merged with Air2LAN (Jai Baghat's old company) out of Jackson, MS. They then rolled up a number of WISPs. So they got old MY customers, some Wi-Fi customers, some hotspot business, some traditional WISP business, etc. Lots of different brands in there, including us among many others. So I suppose it'd be tricky to get a good count that we easily compare with WISP pure play type business. RE: [WISPA] US Wireless Online Sells 50.1 Percent
Wrong. Allen ran Alvarion for years. Here are a few posts to prove it: From 2001: However, the retrans are hitting around 20%-30%. I can't figure out what the problem could be. Lots to check out.. First make sure Max Rate is set to 1Mbps. The reason is that your 89-91 RSSI falls in the 1Mbps threshold: RSSI 108 3Mbps 95 RSSI 1082Mbps RSSI 95 1Mbps Some of those retrans might be the radio making futile attempts to try 2 and 3Mbps.. So make sure Multirate is enabled and Max Rate is set no higher than the RSSI will allow. Second log into the radio and go to 4) Site Survey then 1) Traffic Statistics and 1) Display Counters.. Midway you will see something like this: Total tx errors :1 (H/W: 0, ABR: 0, CSL: 0, ACKTOUT: 0) (FAIL: 0, ACKCRC: 0, RTSC: 0, EOD: 1) These 8 error types tell the whole story.. CSL errors means there is lots of noise in the area and the radio is having a hard time finding clean air to transmit into.. ACKTOUT is if your Ack Delay is set wrong (low for a few miles, med for up to 9 miles, and high for double digit distances). RTSC is the booger.. That is a RTS Collision in theory (if everything else is perfect in the RF link). But anything can cause a RTSC from a badly engineered link to water in a connector.. In general, it means either the client or AP is having a hard time hearing one another - someone is not responding.. If you drive down CSL errors, RTSC errors can go down too. That is, there is a relationship between these errors.. A good start is to read the manual's brief explanation of the error types.. Then start on CSL errors and save RTSC errors for last in your attack plan.. Oh, yeah, Patrick, I'm not dissing you or Alvarion, I have a great deal of respect for you and Alvarion and think I would use your product if I wasn't satisfied with Lonnie. Matter of fact your latest release looks like a fine product. I was just setting the record straight. George Rogato wrote: Hang tight there Brad, according to that post, Allen, who was flipping me attitude, exposed that he was 55% Alvarion and 45% non. +/- He certainly was leaning towards Trango and I remember when Trango upped the prices and let Charles and the others handle end sales, he was kinda pissed and ranted. Sound familiar? So he was linking Trango at that time, and MT as well. George Brad Belton wrote: Nice job of cherry picking posts Patrick. I am impressed! US Wireless made a big announcement last year about teaming with Lightyear Network, also based in Louisville to bring wireless and VOIP to the world. It lasted about 4-6 months then fell apart. US Wireless is good at making big announcements but nothing much has materialized as of yet. They mainly focus on commercial accounts only and have cellular service as well. I have been watching US Wireless closely for the last year. I guess if you have one tower in 18 big cities, you can claim what they claim?? As far as I know all their wireless gear was removed from New Orleans about 4 months ago. It cleared up a few channells that were much needed. I was suprised that they just unplugged everything instead of trying to sell the clients. My phone was ringing like crazy for a little while. Hey Joe. Can you give us an update on what is going on down your way? Are you selling a bunch of connections? What gear are you deploying? How well is the area recovering? Any information is appreciated. Cheers, Scriv Joe Laura wrote: As far as I know all their wireless gear was removed from New Orleans about 4 months ago.
