PUB: call for submissions from
arab-american poets
===

Call
For Submissions: Anthology of Contemporary Arab American Poetry
The following is a call for submissions from Hayan Charara:
I am compiling an anthology of contemporary Arab-American poetry that a
major university press has expressed interest in publishing. The
anthology is intended to be a comprehensive collection of Arab-American
poetry.

To be considered for inclusion in the anthology, contributors and
contributions must meet two criteria: (1) Contributors must be of Arab
descent, and (2) original poems must be written in English, i.e., no
translations.

"Arab-American" themes or subject matter are welcomed but not required.
Previously published material is preferred.

While I have many poetry collections written by Arab-American poets, I
do not have all of them. Please consider sending books (photocopies or
printed manuscripts are welcomed) so that I have a complete and
up-to-date sampling of your work. Email submissions are accepted, but
hard copies are preferred. Any books sent will be returned if requested
(please include SASE with sufficient postage). Otherwise, submissions
will not be returned--please do not send your only copy.

The press would like to see a manuscript of the anthology in the fall.
To accommodate this, and to ensure a top-notch manuscript, deadline for
submission is to September 15, 2005.

Inquires and/or email submissions should be sent to:

[EMAIL PROTECTED]

Hard copy submissions should be sent to:

Remember to include a SASE for reply.

Finally, please pass this message on to anyone who may be interested or
may be able to spread the word. Thanks.

solo acoustic guitar (slight chorus added)
guitar: unidentified parlor guitar from 1890=1910 (I figure). the action
is somewhat poor, since the guitar was modified somewhere along the line -
the original bridge and tailpiece were replaced with a peg-bridge that
has pulled on the spruce top. although the instrument is difficult to
play, the sound is beautiful.
this is based on a very short pentatonic riff which devolves into parallel
fifths, augmented chords, and a number of major unadulterated chords. no
picks were used.
i'm very happy with this piece, which is one of my best.

2005-06-07 Thread chris
this reminds me so much of when lanny's noisetext group got shut down on
yahoo (and i for one lost many writings that were important to me, cause i
wrote a lot of them direct into the web form for yahoo groups and viewed
them online, no copies saved on my machine anywhere). and they trashed
the group without so much as a warning. no notice, nothing. in the
course of muttering under my breath to various people about how it was an
outrage that yahoo could just lay waste to whatever things they felt like
on a whim (since we were subject to their terms and conditions), many
people were basically trying to be apologists for them, saying that it's
not censorship when it's a private company, they can do what they want,
etc., and we agreed to that by using the service. well, sure, technically
this is true. but it obscures some more troubling issues, one being that
these web communities are being used by a lot of people in ways that
community centers were in the past, and now, with these community centers
being operated by private organizations (and look at how quickly the
right wing of the U.S. political system is to try to shunt everything away
from governmental organizations over to the private sector), there is a
loss in accountability every step of the way, and it is misleading people
to have them think that this benevolent service provided by corporations
is somehow without hidden agendas, and risks allowing more and more power
to fall into corporate hands that really have no accountability to anyone
but their debt holders and investors. i have almost no doubt that it was
the powerful political commentary and the explosively powerful vibes of
many of the carefully constructed auto-texts that were being generated
on the group that caused a reactionary clamp-down, because it was angry,
organized and extremely intense.. i am still amazed at some of the
things that came out of that group, and so some squealing meanie just
couldn't take the raw, oozing ventfest, which was revealing some very ugly
behind-the-scene snapshots of this culture. and it was horribly wrong to
have that all ripped away in the manner that it was. i will never, EVER
place trust in any of these corporations to be wise stewards of anything.
and i will always carry a little black soot in my heart for whoever that
loser was that stole all that away one day. this networked world carries
a number of new risks that take a while to fully comprehend. and all
these happy, smiley-faced support group web sites are setting people up
for some dangerous power plays. we can't let our organizing efforts get
locked up inside some corporation's hard drive. this is so easy to let
happen, i'm worried for all of us.

one again you refused to make aware the subscribers to your site about
the issue.
this was and is an important issue. considering you are medai and ther
was a form of localized blackout.
this important issue was brought your attention and you ignored it by
never responding. then you commenced with dodging the
issue my making harassing statements.

i never said this was about my race or that it was targeted at myself.
however, you did
avoid the issue of the blocking of your subscribers from the site by
personalizing it and
bringing the bc and vic indymedia's admins personal lives and the

my facts were straight. without the "snips" in your post -- they were
statments and names from telus none of it made up and they nor i
recieved response from yourself on this issue. so instead of changing
the issue from freedom of _expression_ and access to information to blaim
the victim (ie. "get you your facts straight..")-- the victim (s) the
focus of criticism is the turn the table tactic of the british columbia
left and what holds back progress and reduces activism to that of a
popularity contest and closed minded clique with small minds and close
ties.

as for telus issue well as you can read the onus was originally on
telus. when bc and vic indy media refused to comment ( as did you show
very little concern over this isssue) and telus did -- the suspicion
then moved to bc and vic indy media -- which apparently the issue is
with bc and victoria indy media.

so far the story is as it is. until the truth is revealed as to whom is
lying or responsible.

so the issue is yet to be resolved concerning the telus or vic indy
media ban on thousands of clients who use teleus as an IPS -- which is a
pretty big story my friend.

this is the sharing of information based on an investigation. the
hostilty, although in character with vic indy media, is uncalled for.

personally, i don't know why anyone who calls themselves activist would
sit back allow all these injustices to occur unquestioned and use
twisted analysis to make excuse which only have them fall inline with
rightest repression NWO policies and descrimination tactics.

sincerely
