Re: [XFree86] ATI Radeon IGP320M (U1) Dual Head
IANAXE, but I've never seen a laptop that would dual-head with it's external port. You typically get one, or the other. Cheers, -- jra This one does dual-head, I had it going with WinXP the day I bought it. But I cannot have Windows XP, I need to run GNU/Linux. There are quite a few newer laptops that do dual-head. Right now I know that the hardware supports dual-head, and the software supports dual-head. But I cannot find why my config isn't working. I'm not sure what the Clone options you've got in there are doing, but as I understand it, Clone usually means same picture on both heads, which mine seems to do on it's own if I don't configure it for dual-head. Anyway, my XF86Config is available at http://www.2bithacker.net/vaio/XF86Config Only thing I can't do is use accelerated OpenGL, since running both heads takes up too much memory, and my poor laptop doesn't have all tat much video RAM. :( Thanks for the info. The biggest difference between your XF86Config and mine is that you are using the ati driver. I'd like to know what version of X are your running. The Clone options I am using because, according to the man page for the radeon driver, if I do not specify what modes, hsync, and vrefresh for the secondary display in the Clone options, the modes from the primary display will be used. And without them I checked the log file and it did report that the modes from the primary were being used for the secondary. Anyway, I am still completely clueless as to why it is not working. Either hp has done something funky to the card, the radeon driver is funky, or I am funky. I just wish I knew what. [XFree86] ATI Radeon IGP320M (U1) Dual Head
Hello all. I am currently working on getting a dual head setup to work with an ATI Radeon IGP320M (U1) graphics card in a notebook computer. I have approached the list with this topic once before, but I am still need help. The notebook is an hp pavilion ze4430us model. It features a 15 TFT display. I also have a connected CRT made by Samtron; model 77V. I have attempted to setup X to display one screen on each of the displays. When I was working this issue before I was using an unknown monitor as the secondary display. I could not find any information about it as far as the HSync and VRefresh goes, and it was a general concensus that I did not have the values set correctly. Now I have the Samtron, and I know the recommened HSync and VRefresh rates. However, the connected monitor does not display an image. My current XF86Config file: http://www.brandonlewis.net/documents/ati/XF86Config The corresponding XFree86.0.log file: http://www.brandonlewis.net/documents/ati/XFree86.0.log Information regarding the connected Samtron 77V monitor: http://www.samtron.com/product/77v_spec.html With the above configuration, I can only view the screen that is associated with the Primary (TFT) display. The screen associated with the external monitor is not being displayed. The external monitor's status light is just blinking. The xinerama extension _is_ working. Any help is appreciated very much. H...I wonder what it could be that makes things happen this way. Really, thank your for your help. This is a fairly important thing for me. Re: [XFree86] ATI IGP 340M - Dual head on a lapltop
Thanks Alex. If you've a spare moment would you mind looking at my current XF86Config file? http://www.656.org/ati/XF86Config The XFree86.0.log is at http://www.656.org/ati/XFree86.0.log Just please let me know if something jumps out as being horribly wrong (I've stripped comments, so it is pretty easy to read through). I submitted a second email concerning my problem yesterday with more accurate information. Mainly that the chipset is an IGP 320M, not 340M as I had previously believed. When defining two screens, two monitors, and two devices and I am getting a clone of the primary head on the secondary head. Xinerama says that it is enabled in the log, but you couldn't tell by looking at the display. From the bugzilla record below I gather I'll need the cvs to use the patch. Is this correct? Thanks for your help. Make sure your screen entries do not contain the videoram option as that will prevent dualhead from working. check the radeon and XF86Config man pages for more info. Alex Hello, I've an hp ze4430 laptop. It contains an ATI Radeon Mobility U1 (IGP 340M w/ 64MB shared memory). I am currently using the radeon driver that I believe was shipped with XFree 4.3. This graphics card has the ability to extend the desktop to 2048x78 using an external monitor. I have been unable to find any documentation about such a feature being supported (or not) by the radeon driver. I have attempted to obtain such a result by trying everything I know to do in my XF86Config file. I can get a 2048x768 desktop using the Xinerama option, but the extra desktop space does not display on the external monitor, rather in empty space next to the laptop's flat panel. I've also been successful cloning the display on both monitors using different methods (MonitorLayout and CloneDisplay). Does anyone know if the current radeon driver supports this feature or of any documentation that may contain information that will help me achieve this setup? Re: [XFree86] Font server problem ...
Could not init font path element unix/:7100, removing from list! You are getting this because xfs has died and is no longer listening to that port. How can I (should I?) locate and kill that file/process? On Redhat I believe you should be able to do: /etc/init.d/xfs stop this should remove the pid file. and then /etc/init.d/xfs start and look for errors, or if you are luck, the [ok]. Regards, Hui Thanks for the advise. However, when I set the HorizSync to something lower, the CRT fails to initialize. It is a unknown monitor. It has no brand identifier on it anywhere that I can see. With the HorizSync set as it is the CRT will always come on. The problem I am fighting is that the CRT is displaying a clone of the primary display. According to everything that I have read it should be able to use xinerama to make one big desktop. But I have been unable to actually get anything but a cloned display (it does not help to only see what I am doing twice ;)). I have read that dri and xinerama do not work well with each other. This is perfectly fine with me since dri is not supported for my chipset anyway. Right now I am at a total loss as to what approach I should take. It seems as if there should be something I have to do to tell X to display a seperate screen on the external monitor (I thought that Xinerama would do this) instead of cloning the primary display. The only thing that I am sure of right now is that the Windows (ms) could display on the external monitor in a xinerama style, but I would rather have only one screen with gnu/linux+xfree+gnome than proper dual support from ms. I like my gnu tools better. :) Regards, Brandon ___ XFree86 mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://XFree86.Org/mailman/listinfo/xfree86
