Server aborting Above are all of the relevant details for my Bug Report. After more extensive searching I have found a solution to this problem -- it occurs on both FreeBSD and NetBSD for certain and quite possibly OpenBSD. I have seen one report of similar problems for Solaris. It can be resolved by adding: Option "NoUseBIOS" to the device section of the XF86Config-4 file. Is there any way that this can be added as a default by xf86config and the other configurators if the OS is detected as one of those mentioned above as I am sure it will save a great many peole much hassle. [XFree86] How do ``Bug Reports'' work?
Hi, I apologise if this has been asked/answered before but I was unable to turn up anything relevant after a quick Google. I have just submitted a ``Bug Report'' about an issue that I've been having and was wondering exactly what happens now? Do all of the developers read/post to this list, or is there another list where this goes? Any info. would be a great help because I'm almost 100% sure this is an actual bug and not a misconfiguration. The machine is then virtually unusable until I remotely ssh in and kill -9 the X server. I think it is something to do with the VESA stuff (see the bottom of the attached output log). This problem occurs with both 4.2.0 and 4.2.1 but _not_ with 4.1(.x?). I have not tested 3.x but I suspect it might work (since everything but Permedia2 cards seemed to work with that ;). [XFree86] Silicon Motion LynxEM / XFree86 4.2.x.
Hi, I'm hoping somebody can help me with a problem I've been having using an onboard (Gateway Solo Laptop) Silicon Motion LynxEM graphics card. The problem is with XFree86 4.2 and 4.2.1 (but _not_ with 4.1 (I don't know about 3.3.x)), which suggests that something has been changed (I couldn't find any specific in the ChangeLog, although some XVideo support seems to have been added). The sympoms I'm having are that as I run startx (with either a working XFree86 config or a newly-generated XFree86 config) the screen goes black, a few vertical lines flash up on the screen and then the screen goes black again. It's not a resolution problem-type flash. The only way I can then get back to the console is by sshing in and killall -9ing XFree86 (ctrl+alt+fn or ctrl+alt+bksp don't work). Here is the relevant (I think) section from my XFree86 log file (I can provide a full output, if requested) and the Device section from my config: Section "Device" Identifier "Silicon Motion Lynx family" Driver "siliconmotion" ChipSet "lynxem" BusID "PCI:1:0:0" Option "NoAccel" EndSection (II) Loading sub module "int10" (II) LoadModule: "int10" (II) Reloading /usr/X11R6/lib/modules/libint10.a (II) Silicon Motion(0): initializing int10 (=3D3D=3D3D) Silicon Motion(0): Write-combining range (0xa,0x2) was already clear (II) Silicon Motion(0): Primary V_BIOS segment is: 0xc000 (II) Silicon Motion(0): VESA BIOS function failed Fatal server error: Caught signal 11. Server aborting Any help would be much appreciated as I've just upgraded to FreeBSD 5.0-RELEASE and I'm not really keen on installing old XFree86 4.1 binaries under FreeBSD 4 compatibility :) -lewiz. -- Leibowitz's Rule: When hammering a nail, you will never hit your finger if you hold the hammer with both hands. --|| url: http://lewiz.info/ | http://www.westwood.karoo.net/pgpkey ||-- msg00637/pgp0.pgp Description: PGP signature
