[Yahoo-eng-team] [Bug 1364814] [NEW] Neutron multiple api workers can't send cast message to agent when use zeromq

2014-09-03 Thread Dongcan Ye
Public bug reported:

When I set api_workers 0 in Neutron configuration, delelting or adding router
interface, Neutron L3 agent can't receive message from Neutron Server.
In this situation, L3 agent report state can cast to Neutron Server, meanwhile
it can receive cast message from Neutron Server.(use call method)

Obviously, Neutron Server can use cast method for sending message to L3
agent, But why cast routers_updated fails? This also occurs in other
Neutron agent.

Then I make a test, write some codes in Neutron server starts or
l3_router_plugins, sends cast periodic message to L3 agent directly.
From L3 agent rpc-zmq-receiver log file shows it receives message from
Neutron Server.

By the way, all things well when api_workers = 0.

Test environment:
neutron(master) + oslo.messaging(master) + zeromq

[Yahoo-eng-team] [Bug 1364849] [NEW] VMware driver doesn't return typed console

2014-09-03 Thread Matthew Booth
Public bug reported:

Change I8f6a857b88659ee30b4aa1a25ac52d7e01156a68 added typed consoles,
and updated drivers to use them. However, when it touched the VMware
driver, it modified get_vnc_console in VMwareVMOps, but not in
VMwareVCVMOps, which is the one which is actually used.

Incidentally, VMwareVMOps has now been removed, so this type of
confusion should not happen again.

You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Failed to copy cluster template.

Reproduction steps:

1. Create one or a few node group templates.
2. Create cluster template via API request. Cluster template must use IDs of
created node group templates and node groups described in cluster template
directly. For example, request body for cluster template may be

{
name: some-cluster-template,
description: Some Cluster template,
plugin_name: vanilla,
hadoop_version: 1.2.1,
cluster_configs: {},
node_groups: [

},
{
name: worker,
flavor_id: 2,
node_processes: [tasktracker, datanode],
node_configs: {},
count: 2
}

}

3. Go to Sahara dashboard. Try to copy cluster template.

Expected result:
Template has been successfully copied.

Observed result:

[Yahoo-eng-team] [Bug 1364876] [NEW] Specifying both rpc_workers and api_workers make stoping neutron-server fail

2014-09-03 Thread mouadino
Public bug reported:

Hi,

By setting both rpc_workers and api_workers to something bigger than 1,
when you try to stop the service with e.g. upstart the stop doesn't kill
all neutron-server processes, which result to failure when starting
neutron-server again.

Details:
==

neutron-server will create to openstack.common.service.ProcessLauncher
instances one for each service i.e. rpc and api, now the ProcessLauncher
wasn't meant to be instantiated more than once in a single process and
here is why:

1. Each ProcessLauncher instance register a callback to catch signals
like SIGTERM, SIGINT and SIGHUB, having two instances of ProcessLauncher
mean the signal.signal will be called twice with different callbacks,
only the last one executed will take effect.

2. Each ProcessLauncher think that he own all children processes of the
current process, for example take a look at _wait_child method that
will catch all killed child processes.

3. When only one ProcessLauncher instance is handling the process
termination while the other doesn't this lead to race condition between
both:

3.1. Running stop neutron-server will kill also children processes
too, but b/c we have 2 ProcessLauncher the one that didn't catch the
kill signal will keep respawning new children processes when it detect
that they died, the other want because self.running was set to False.

3.2. When children processes dies (i.e. stop neutron-server), one of
the ProcessLauncher will catch that with os.waitpid(0, os.WNOHANG) (both
do that), and if the death of a child process is catched by the wrong
ProcessLauncher i.e. not the one that has it in his children instance
variable, the parent process will hang forever in this loop b/c
self.children will always contain that child process:

 if self.children:
LOG.info(_LI('Waiting on %d children to exit'), len(self.children))
while self.children:
self._wait_child()

Hopefully I made this clear.

Cheers,

[Yahoo-eng-team] [Bug 1364893] [NEW] New version of requests library breaks unit tests

2014-09-03 Thread Pawel Koniszewski
Public bug reported:

The newest version of requests library - 2.4.0 - updated underlying library
'urllib3' to version 1.9.
Unfortunately this version of urllib3 introduced new exception, ProtocolError,
which breaks unit tests. This causes Jenkins to fail in every change set.

https://pypi.python.org/pypi/urllib3 (urllib3.exceptions.ConnectionError

Title:
LBaaS Round Robin does not work as expected

Status in OpenStack Neutron (virtual network service):
  Invalid

Bug description:
  Description of problem:
  ===
I configured a load balancing pool with 2 members using round robin mechanism.
My expectation was that each request will be directed to the next available
pool member.
  Meaning, the expected result was:
  Req #1 - Member #1
  Req #2 - Member #2
  Req #3 - Member #1
  Req #4 - Member #2

  etc..

I configured the instances guest image to replay to the request with the
private ip address of the instance, and by that i can easily see who handled
the request.
This is the result I witnessed:

  # for i in {1..10} ; do curl -s 192.168.170.9 ; echo ; done

[Yahoo-eng-team] [Bug 1024586] Re: avoid the use of kpartx in file injection

2014-09-03 Thread Sean Dague
For other reasons we stopped using this path for file injection by
default. This bug is sufficiently old that I assume it is no longer in
progress.

Title:
avoid the use of kpartx in file injection

Status in OpenStack Compute (Nova):
  Invalid

Bug description:
  kpartx has various problems...

  1. The git repo on kernel.org is no longer available.

  2. kpartx -l had side effects:
$ kpartx -l /bin/ls
$ ls
text file busy
To fix you need to run losetup -a to find the assigned loopback device
  and then losetup -d /dev/loop...

  3. On an unconnected loop device we get warnings, but an EXIT_SUCCESS ?
# kpartx -a /dev/loop1 echo EXIT_SUCCESS
read error, sector 0
llseek error
llseek error
llseek error
EXIT_SUCCESS

  4. Also for a loop device that is connected,
I get a failed warning, but the EXIT_SUCCESS
is appropriate in that case as the mapped device
  is present and usable
# kpartx -a /dev/loop0
/dev/mapper/loop0p1: mknod for loop0p1 failed: File exists

  5. There are issues with qcow2 encoded cirros images
  # qemu-img info cirros-0.3.0-x86_64-disk.img
  image: cirros-0.3.0-x86_64-disk.img
  file format: qcow2
  virtual size: 39M (41126400 bytes)
  disk size: 9.3M
  cluster_size: 65536
  # qemu-nbd -c /dev/nbd15 $PWD/cirros-0.3.0-x86_64-disk.img
  # ls -la /sys/block/nbd15/pid
  -r--r--r--. 1 root root 4096 Jun 8 10:19 /sys/block/nbd15/pid
  # kpartx -a /dev/nbd15
device-mapper: resume ioctl on nbd15p1 failed: Invalid argument
  create/reload failed on nbd15p1

  6. There was a report that `kpartx -[ad]` were not synchronous
  with the creation/deletion of /dev/mapper/nbdXXpX
requiring sleep calls to avoid failures.

The best way to avoid the need for kpartx is to use the
newer kernel auto partition mapping feature available since kernel 3.2
and only fallback to kpartx if not exists ...
'%sp%s' % (self.device, self.partition)
Note the nbd module must be mounted with param max_part=16 etc.
  so that would need documentation.
Also we would need to test the same applies for raw loopback images
  as well as nbd

Title:
Inconsistency between nova-manage help message and actual usage.

Status in OpenStack Compute (Nova):
  Invalid

Bug description:
In current implementation, a lot of optional arguments for nova-manage
sub actions are required (aka non-optional).

  For example:
  $nova-manage shell script -h
usage: nova-manage shell script [-h] [--path path]
  [action_args [action_args ...]]

  positional arguments:
action_args

  optional arguments:
-h, --help show this help message and exit
--path path Script path

What the help message says is, --path is optional, which means user
can safely ignore this argument but in fact they can't.

  $nova-manage shell script
Runs the script from the specifed path with flags set properly.
  arguments: path
  An argument is missing: path

It seems 'nova-manage' detect a missing argument but that's confusing
and inconsistent. Why the helpl message doesn't suggest so?

Looking into the implementation, nova-manage relies on a cliutils
module from oslo to do argument inspection. This is kind of an
indirect and inefficient way to do it. The argparse module (used by
oslo cfg module) is able to do argument checking when parsing
arguments. nova-manage failed to do this due to incorrect usage of
  @args decorator:

  -
  @@ -202,7 +202,7 @@ class ShellCommands(object):
   readline.parse_and_bind(tab:complete)
   code.interact()

  -@args('--path', dest='path', metavar='path', help='Script path')
  +@args('--path', required=True, dest='path', metavar='path',
help='Script path')
   def script(self, path):

Simply adding a 'required=True' to @args allows argparse module to
detect incorrect input as well as generate consistent help message.
And cliutils module is _not_ needed any more.

[Yahoo-eng-team] [Bug 1364986] [NEW] oslo.db now wraps all DB exceptions

2014-09-03 Thread Roman Podoliaka
Public bug reported:

tl;dr

In a few versions of oslo.db (maybe when we release 1.0.0?), every
project using oslo.db should inspect their code and remove usages of
'raw' DB exceptions like IntegrityError/OperationalError/etc from except
clauses and replace them with the corresponding custom exceptions from
oslo.db (at least a base one - DBError).

Full version

A recent commit to oslo.db changed the way the 'raw' DB exceptions are
wrapped (e.g. IntegrityError, OperationalError, etc). Previously, we
used decorators on Session methods and wrapped those exceptions with
oslo.db custom ones. This is mostly useful for handling them later (e.g.
to retry DB API methods on deadlocks).

The problem with Session decorators was that it wasn't possible to catch
and wrap all possible exceptions. E.g. SA Core exceptions and exceptions
raised in Query.all() calls were ignored. Now we are using a low level
SQLAlchemy event to catch all possible DB exceptions. This means that if
consuming projects had workarounds for those cases and expected 'raw'
exceptions instead of oslo.db ones, they would be broken. That's why we
*temporarily* added both 'raw' exceptions and new ones to expect clauses
in consuming projects code when they were ported to using of oslo.db to
make the transition smooth and allow them to work with different oslo.db
versions.

On the positive side, we now have a solution for problems like
https://bugs.launchpad.net/nova/+bug/1283987 when exceptions in Query
methods calls weren't handled properly.

In a few releases of oslo.db we can safely remove 'raw' DB exceptions
like IntegrityError/OperationalError/etc from projects code and except
only oslo.db specific ones like
DBDuplicateError/DBReferenceError/DBDeadLockError/etc (at least, we wrap
all the DB exceptions with our base exception DBError, if we haven't
found a better match).

So I think this bug is actually in python-neutronclient, however in
looking at the code I can't see any way that such a thing could happen
as that code path should have been protected from this since -
2013-10-23 commit

commit e49819caf95fc6985036231b1e5717f0ff7b6c61
Author: Drew Thorstensen tho...@us.ibm.com
Date: Wed Oct 23 16:41:45 2013 -0500

New exception when auth_url is not specified

Certain scenarios into the neutron client will not specify the
auth_url. This is typically when a token is specified. However, when
the token is expired the neutron client will attempt to refresh the
token. Users of this may not have passed in all of the required
information for this reauthentication to properly occur.

This code fixes an error that occurs in this flow where the auth_url
(which is None) is appended to another string. This results in a core
Python error.

The update will provide a more targetted error message specifying to
the user that the auth_url needs to be specified. An associated unit
test is also included to validate this behavior.

Query Deadlock when creating 200 servers at once in sqlalchemy.

This bug occurred when I test this bug:
  https://bugs.launchpad.net/nova/+bug/1270725

The original info is logged here:
  http://paste.openstack.org/show/61534/

  --

After checking the error-log, we can notice that the deadlock function
  is 'all()' in sqlalchemy framework.

Previously, we use '@retry_on_dead_lock' function to retry requests when
deadlock occurs.

But it's only available for session deadlock(query/flush/execute). It
doesn't cover some 'Query' actions in sqlalchemy.

So, we need to add the same protction for 'all()' in sqlalchemy.

   in dashborad under project demo
create a vm out a default image
  create a volume
attach volume to the instance by clicking Edit Attachments
  once the instance is in-use
detach volume from the instance ty click Edit Attachments
click Detach Volume for the volume

  check screen -r

  n-cpu

doesn't seem to have any activity in the log.

However if I run nova command

nova volume-detach id of my vm id of my volume

  it works fine.
I think this is more of GUI problem.

[Yahoo-eng-team] [Bug 1365031] [NEW] VMware fake session doesn't detect implicitly created directory

2014-09-03 Thread Matthew Booth

directories. Directories can be created explicitly, e.g. by
MakeDirectory(createParentDirectories=True), but the fake session will
not recognise these.

[Yahoo-eng-team] [Bug 1365061] [NEW] Warn against sorting requirements

2014-09-03 Thread Dolph Mathews
Public bug reported:

Contrary to bug 1285478, requirements files should not be sorted
alphabetically. Given that requirements files can contain comments, I'd
suggest a header in all requirements files along the lines of:

# process, which may cause wedges in the gate later.

Bug description:
  Steps to repro:
  1. Use HEAT provisioning engine
  2. Login as admin user who has access to several tenants
  3. Create node group template with 'default' security group assigned
  4. Create cluster with this node group

  Expected result: cluster is created
Observed result: Cluster in error state. Heat stack is in state
{stack_status_reason: Resource CREATE failed: PhysicalResourceNameAmbiguity:
Multiple physical resources were found with name (default)., stack_status:
CREATE_FAILED}

  Problem investigation:
Heat searches security group name in all tenants accessible for user, not
only in tenant where stack is going to be created (heat bug?).

  Steps to make things better:
  1. We can allow specifying security group with ID
  2. Horizon UI can use IDs instead of names for security groups

In this case, remaining tokens are able to used to authenticate despite the
fact that token's user was deleted.

I think this case is dangerous from the security point of view.

[Yahoo-eng-team] [Bug 1158328] Re: passwords in config files stored in plaintext

2014-09-03 Thread Sean Dague
I feel like this is pretty strongly out of scope. Applications that need
to talk to databases that require passwords need access to those
passwords in plain text. While we could do obfuscation, it doesn't
really address the issue, it just makes you think you addressed it.
Honestly better to leave things clear so people rightly understand that
a compromise of that file means all bets are off.

  Oh, well.

Glance does not seem to support any sort of sparse images. For
example, Ubuntu's cloud images are a 1½ GB filesystem, but if it were
sparsely allocated it would only take up a couple of hundred MB.

Amazon handles this by using tarballs as their image transport format.

[Yahoo-eng-team] [Bug 1297261] Re: messages when the module import fails are very misleading and not descriptive

Title:
messages when the module import fails are very misleading and not
  descriptive

Status in The Oslo library incubator:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
I had problem to import vmware module due to lack of it's dep. The
message in log though was saying that there is no vmware module, which
is far from true. The problematic code is at least:

  /usr/lib/python2.6/site-packages/nova/openstack/common/importutils.py

  def import_class(import_str):
  ...
  try:
  __import__(mod_str)
  return getattr(sys.modules[mod_str], class_str)
  except (ValueError, AttributeError):
  raise ImportError('Class %s cannot be found (%s)' %
(class_str,
 traceback.format_exception(*sys.exc_info(

Which would obfuscate the error message when some module import dies
  on ValueError, and:

  def import_object_ns(name_space, import_str, *args, **kwargs):
Tries to import object from default namespace.

Imports a class and return an instance of it, first by trying
to find the class in a default namespace, then failing back to
a full path if not found in the default namespace.

  import_value = %s.%s % (name_space, import_str)
  try:
  return import_class(import_value)(*args, **kwargs)
  except ImportError:
  return import_class(import_str)(*args, **kwargs)

Which will say ImportError: Missing module import_str, but only as a
result of failure of the first import in the try-except block,
effectively hiding the true reason of the failure.

In other words, if the first import fails for some interesting
reasons, some other, possible meaningles import is tried and only it's
  error is let to propagate.

Everything is smooth up to setting up nova-compute. Other nova
services seem to be working correctly, but when I got to deploying the
first image the instance didn't start. I am attaching the nova-
compute.log file. The nova-compute process crashes immediately when
  you attempt to start it.

According to the errors it appears that there is a missing field
(metrics) in the compute_nodes table. The error doesn't mention it,
but the table also appears to be missing the extra_resources column as
  well.

Here is what my MySQL says the schema is for compute_nodes
  CREATE TABLE `compute_nodes` (
`created_at` datetime DEFAULT NULL,
`updated_at` datetime DEFAULT NULL,
`deleted_at` datetime DEFAULT NULL,
`id` int(11) NOT NULL AUTO_INCREMENT,
`service_id` int(11) NOT NULL,
`vcpus` int(11) NOT NULL,
`memory_mb` int(11) NOT NULL,
`local_gb` int(11) NOT NULL,
`vcpus_used` int(11) NOT NULL,
`memory_mb_used` int(11) NOT NULL,
`local_gb_used` int(11) NOT NULL,
`hypervisor_type` mediumtext NOT NULL,
`hypervisor_version` int(11) NOT NULL,
`cpu_info` mediumtext NOT NULL,
`disk_available_least` int(11) DEFAULT NULL,
`free_ram_mb` int(11) DEFAULT NULL,
`free_disk_gb` int(11) DEFAULT NULL,
`current_workload` int(11) DEFAULT NULL,
`running_vms` int(11) DEFAULT NULL,
`hypervisor_hostname` varchar(255) DEFAULT NULL,
`deleted` int(11) DEFAULT NULL,
`host_ip` varchar(39) DEFAULT NULL,
`supported_instances` text,
`pci_stats` text,
PRIMARY KEY (`id`),
KEY `fk_compute_nodes_service_id` (`service_id`),
CONSTRAINT `fk_compute_nodes_service_id` FOREIGN KEY (`service_id`)
REFERENCES `services` (`id`)
  ) ENGINE=InnoDB DEFAULT CHARSET=utf8$$

So it would appear that there is no metrics column to select as the
error indicates. I thought this might have been an issue with `nova-
manage db sync`, so I dropped, recreated, ran `nova-manage db sync`
again on the DB, and restarted the services but I am getting the same
issue. The nova-manage log for the db schema updates doesn't have
anything that would indicate any issues (schema appears to be at
  version 216).

Libvirt console parameter incorrect for ARM KVM

Status in OpenStack Compute (Nova):
  Won't Fix

Bug description:
If you configure nova to run on Calxeda ARM with libvirt/KVM, the
generated libvirt configuration passes console as:

  os
  …
  cmdlineroot=/dev/vda console=tty0 console=ttyS0/cmdline
  /os

For ARM guests the libvirt configuration should use 'console=ttyAMA0',
hence as it stands you lose serial output for the guest. Currently the
console settings are hard coded in nova/virt/libvirt/driver.py . I
think we should modify that to be operator configurable via an option
in nova.conf. I can submit a change accordingly, but would like
feedback on if this sounds reasonable.

Pulled in this change to jsonutils:

  https://review.openstack.org/#/c/113760/

That uses a flag in json.dumps which is only in simplejson = 2.2.0.
If you don't have a new enough simplejson the keystone database
  migrations fail.

Keystone doesn't even list simplejson as a requirement and oslo-
  incubator lists simplejson = 2.0.9 as a test-requirement since it's
  optional in the code.

[Yahoo-eng-team] [Bug 1308983] Re: 'NameError: global name 'endpoint' is not defined' after browser crash

2014-09-03 Thread David Lyle
The method throwing the exception, delete_all_tokens, last existed in
version 1.1.2 of django_openstack_auth. The current version is 1.1.6.
Having an out of date version of django_openstack_auth will miss bug
fixes and potentially cause all sorts of exceptions. If a similar
problem occurs with an up-to-date version of django_openstack_auth,
please post that here. And I'll reopen the bug.

Title:
'NameError: global name 'endpoint' is not defined' after browser crash

Status in OpenStack Dashboard (Horizon):
  Won't Fix

Bug description:
I was working on horizon when my firefox browser stopped responding and I had
to force shut down the browser and restart it.
once I restored the session, none of the objects could be retrieved by
horizon and when I logged out I could not log in with http access error.
the only way I was able to refresh the session is logging in with hostname
instead of ip which somehow refreshed the session and allowed me to log in.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
  python-httplib2-0.7.2-1.el6.noarch
  httpd-tools-2.2.15-29.el6_4.x86_64
  httpd-2.2.15-29.el6_4.x86_64

  firefox-17.0.10-1.el6_4.x86_64
  rhel-csb-firefox-config-0.1-1.el6.rhis.x86_64

  python-django-horizon-2013.2.3-1.el6ost.noarch

  How reproducible:

unknown - below is what happened to me.

  Steps to Reproduce:
  1. open a session to horizon in firefox using ip (http://10.35.x.x)
  2. crash firefox (I suppose killing -9 the pid should simulate this)
  3. restore the browser
  4. log out/log in with ip again
  5. log in with dnsname of host (http://hostname)

  Actual results:

we fail to get objects from the setup and when we log out we fail to
login again until we change from ip to dns name of host

  Expected results:

we should refresh the session after a crash in browser.

nova should have a option to reset(or delete) the user quota to
  default

Status in OpenStack Compute (Nova):
  Fix Released
Status in Python client library for Nova:
  Fix Released

Bug description:
At present nova client has following commands for the quota operation.

  $nova --help | grep quota
quota-defaults List the default quotas for a tenant.
quota-show List the quotas for a tenant.
quota-updateUpdate the quotas for a tenant.

It will be very helpful to have a command to reset(or delete) quota values to
defaults .
For ex: User who wants to do huge tests on the system and rollback once the
test is done.

So a new command quota-reset need to be added to the nova client which
reverts the quota value supplied for the tenant ,to the default.

Something similar to nova quota-reset( tenant-id key)

we can use nova quota-defaults to list the default quotas then use the
quota-update to update the quota's to default, but the problem with
this approach is that if you then change the default quotas, they are
  not reflected for the tenant.

similar discussion I have started here

[Yahoo-eng-team] [Bug 1365230] [NEW] Improve ironic driver logging configurability

2014-09-03 Thread Michael Davies
Public bug reported:

As part of review
https://review.openstack.org/#/c/111425/19/nova/virt/ironic/driver.py it
was suggested that logging configurability be addressed in the ironic
driver.

A number of different viewpoints exist regarding whether the ironic
driver should be independently configurable; and whether there should be
a way to turn down the chatyness of the driver for operator sanity.

This is raised a bug so that the right solution for nova can be
considered and implemented independently.

  Improve ironic driver logging configurability

Status in OpenStack Compute (Nova):
  New

Bug description:
  As part of review
  https://review.openstack.org/#/c/111425/19/nova/virt/ironic/driver.py
it was suggested that logging configurability be addressed in the
  ironic driver.

A number of different viewpoints exist regarding whether the ironic
driver should be independently configurable; and whether there should
be a way to turn down the chatyness of the driver for operator
  sanity.

This is raised a bug so that the right solution for nova can be
  considered and implemented independently.

[Yahoo-eng-team] [Bug 1365259] [NEW] Lack of failure information (Failure due to host key verification failure)displayed, during instance migration from one host to another

2014-09-03 Thread Mh Raies
Public bug reported:

I am using (1 controller + compute1 + compute 2) openstack environment.

During live migrate server from one compute host to another using CLI -

If migration is failed due to host key verification failure from one
compute host to another, then failure information should be as a output
to console. otherwise user will not be able to know what is happening.

For user, migration is successful but actually it is failed.

Set of operation is as -
1.
