[yt-dev] Re: Releasing yt 4.4.0
Status Update: You may have noticed that September went by, together with CPython 3.13 which was released earlier this week, so we’re currently behind “schedule”. I think most of the large PRs we wanted in were merged already, but a couple of them remain up for review. We also have a couple last minute bugs that’d be really great to fix if there’s a chance it could save us from doing a 4.4.1 a month from now, and I’d like to get a chance to work on those. As I personally have a lot going on these days, with many packages to update for Python 3.13 a(f)t(er) the last minute, I really don’t mind postponing yt 4.4.0 for a couple weeks still. Please have a(nother) look at the current state of the milestone if you and are able to help with reviews https://github.com/yt-project/yt/milestone/30 [yt.png] [4.4.0 Milestone · yt-project/yt](https://github.com/yt-project/yt/milestone/30) [github.com](https://github.com/yt-project/yt/milestone/30) In the meantime, I propose to aim for the actual release sometimes during the week of October 28th, and hopefully we don’t need to postpone any further than that 🤞🏻 Cheers, Clément > On 18 Sep 2024, at 15:43, clement.rob...@protonmail.com wrote: > > Dear yt team > > I think yt is ripe for a new feature release (4.4.0), especially with the > recent merge of https://github.com/yt-project/yt/pull/4939 (that will no > doubt be the highlight of the release notes) > > Even though there are no strict blockers, there are still a couple items in > the milestone that I'd like us to clear before the release; in particular: > - Adding wheels for the upcoming Python 3.13 > https://github.com/yt-project/yt/pull/4973 > - Future proofing Cython build-time compatibility > https://github.com/yt-project/yt/pull/4948 > - Deciding if we want to drop support for Python 3.9 now or later > https://github.com/yt-project/yt/issues/4977 > > See the full milestone > https://github.com/yt-project/yt/milestone/30 > > > [4.4.0 Milestone · > yt-project/yt](https://github.com/yt-project/yt/milestone/30) > [github.com](https://github.com/yt-project/yt/milestone/30) > > I’ve been managing the milestone as both a record and a Wishlist, not a set > of hard requirements. > > If all goes well, I’d like to propose we publish v4.4.0 by the end of > September (i.e., right before Python 3.13.0 final is out). > > Please let us know if there’s anything else that you’d really like to see > merged before we cut the release. > Thanks > > Clément___ yt-dev mailing list -- yt-dev@python.org To unsubscribe send an email to yt-dev-le...@python.org https://mail.python.org/mailman3/lists/yt-dev.python.org/ Member address: arch...@mail-archive.com
[yt-dev] Nominating Philipp Grete
Hi team (again) ! After two years of back and forth, we recently merged a new frontend for Parthenon. In recognition for this exceptional contribution, I would like to formally nominate Philipp Grete for membership. (in case you're wondering, yes, I do intend to nominate Forrest Glines too, I'm just waiting on his reply at the moment) Clément ___ yt-dev mailing list -- yt-dev@python.org To unsubscribe send an email to yt-dev-le...@python.org https://mail.python.org/mailman3/lists/yt-dev.python.org/ Member address: arch...@mail-archive.com

[yt-dev] Releasing yt 4.4.0
Dear yt team I think yt is ripe for a new feature release (4.4.0), especially with the recent merge of https://github.com/yt-project/yt/pull/4939 (that will no doubt be the highlight of the release notes) Even though there are no strict blockers, there are still a couple items in the milestone that I'd like us to clear before the release; in particular: - Adding wheels for the upcoming Python 3.13 https://github.com/yt-project/yt/pull/4973 - Future proofing Cython build-time compatibility https://github.com/yt-project/yt/pull/4948 - Deciding if we want to drop support for Python 3.9 now or later https://github.com/yt-project/yt/issues/4977 See the full milestone https://github.com/yt-project/yt/milestone/30 [yt.png] [4.4.0 Milestone · yt-project/yt](https://github.com/yt-project/yt/milestone/30) [github.com](https://github.com/yt-project/yt/milestone/30) I’ve been managing the milestone as both a record and a Wishlist, not a set of hard requirements. If all goes well, I’d like to propose we publish v4.4.0 by the end of September (i.e., right before Python 3.13.0 final is out). Please let us know if there’s anything else that you’d really like to see merged before we cut the release.
